I am the 5th home of a nearly 5 year old shepherd mix. No one looked to adopt her. She had shut down. But I recognized her pain and took her home. I've now had her 18 months. I tell her over and over again she's not only forever here, but she's safe from pain and rejection. It took over 7 months for her to begin to allow herself to attach to me. We are now attached at the hip. She is smart, loving and protective. I see more and more love and attachment from her as time passes. And the dog returned so often because people feared her is my beloved special love

My dog was a springer spaniel and his name was Boo Bear. I went to work one night and my son left the gate open and I couldn't find him. The next morning my daughter's boyfriend left our house and it was about 15 minutes later on and he had found Boo Bear on the side of the road. So I asked him to bring him home. That Was the moment I lost my heart ❤️.

Are we as human beings gotten this self involved that we just throw away a soldier who risked his life and saves human soldiers. He’s there for the same reasons as his human partner. A few years ago I had been part of a charity to send care packages to war dogs deployed with our troops. I really enjoyed getting support from our community to help pay for the contents of the boxes. They went mostly to Afghanistan and were filled with doggles (dog goggles), Ruff Wear boots, cooling vests and cooling blankets. We included toys and treats as well as a few things for the handlers. It caused me to learn a lot about these dogs and as they were attainable after retirement, my partner and friend adopted a war dog named FEMA. She continued to be a bomb sniffing dog and when I walked her in the nearby park, she would sniff the side of the road from one side across to the other. Back at the store where my friend worked, she would sniff the people coming in and check all around the inside and outside of the store. Once trained, they never forget their job. Fema got sick and lost her ability to walk. She was loved to the end and I miss her even now. Please help support the War Dog Association run by a Viet Nam vet who was a former handler.

How does that happen? It seems too awful to be true
Don't the armed forces and police follow up on war/crime fighting vets, because that's what they are ❤
So many vets struggle with PTSD, so I finally understand that our animal companions will too.
We had a wonderful loving staffie. One night, he kept on barking. I let him out and checked for danger. Nothing. By the third time, I followed him. Upset stomach. When I brought him in, I sat down in his bed and pulled him over my lap. I spent many hours comforting him that night. A memory I'll never forget. He has passed, but that time still remains with me. Never ever ever.. had a “ bad Shepherd “ loyal to their last breath. Each one, their names bring back memories, of how they saved my life , and my sanity- some would question that- . For years I was emotionally in a void. I could only trust my dogs. All else had a ? above it.
In the many years of difficulty, they were the fur my 3 cried in. Laughed with, lay on the floor with a huge dog, brought them comfort and security.
I am afeared of losing the 2 I have now. But also afeared for them , if I leave first. …yeah

You do realize these pictures (of the dog) are AI generated and this story is probably not true. I don't mean to minimize the horror of us leaving war dogs behind or parting them from their handlers when they should come home with them. But this is made up and they're trying to make money. There is NO WAY a trained military german shepherd would not recognize its handler. And also, the dog got home to a shelter, but there was no plan after that? Doesn't even make sense. This is entirely made up.

    • @PhDsoonish

It's because it is an AI-made up video not real otherwise they would feature more personal items in the story and have an actual photo of the actual dog.

ANIMAL CRUELTY! Dogs give us so much UNCONDITIONAL love, protection, care and support every moment we are blessed to have them! When they need us, they should receive the same and MUCH MORE! NOT be put into a shelter. If the owner died and no one can take the dog, that is different but especially, Police and service dogs and all dogs should receive all the love and care they gave us. NOT be abandoned.

As a whole the military doesn't care about their personnel, the upper echelon they're just pawns! It's shameful the way they treat humans and the way they treat these dogs! I'm ex-military and they could have cared less whether I was dead or alive!! These dogs need to be loved an cared for until they die!! Something needs to be done, but in my opinion, nothing will ever be done to change this!😢 Praise God this man wasn't willing to give up on his canine friend!❤❤❤

Growing up, an uncle gave our family an English Bulldog. We named him Tonto (we are Oklahomans). He was only a couple of months old when we got him and my mother would hold him in her lap and love on him. We loved him, but he kept chasing, catching, and then killing cats in the neighborhood - to the point that neighbors demanded we get rid of him. We finally gave him away to a retired Army officer in a nearby town - 30 miles away. About eight or nine years later, we were out for a Sunday drive and Mom asked Dad to drive by the man’s home to see if he still lived there. He did. When we got out of the car, we saw Tonto tied by a rope to a clip on an outdoor clothesline, long enough for Tonto to exercise by moving back and forth under the 20 foot clothesline. When my mother walked up to him and called his name (we later learned he was nearly blind), she sat down in the grass beside him. He moved into her lap and was whimpering and crying like a baby. We knew he had never forgotten her. It was a scene I’ll never forget.

I loved this Dog so so very much. She went everywhere with me. Unfortunately I had make the excruciating ultimate hardest decision of my life. OMG Jack! You and Rex are so blessed, for a lifetime! Hard work, love, determination (as stated), combined with a man’s dedication to his furry partner revealed an extraordinarily, amazing ending insofar as the “story” but the beginning of the second chapter for you and your GSD boy, Rex. So many shots of him throughout just shined a light on his remarkable lines-he is beautiful, so perceptive, though initially cautious with any approach; his markings so colorful/distinct; acclimated to his surroundings at a pace you felt he could handle; skilled/intelligent/perceptive; and, so much more! Your approach used to acclimate him with his new surroundings was particularly helpful so he didn’t feel afraid or anxious enabling his return from the brink of defeat to his new home life and great surroundings. Good Luck with him, always, and with one of my favorite if not my favorite breed, you deserve the world-both of you!

It is a very touching story! Every pet or K9 are God's creatures. God makes them special like us. They put 100% trust on us human to love and care. The bonds that we have, and share is very unique.
My sons' dogs knew how much I went through with the stress and anxiety with my loved one's surgery. When I came home from the hospital, they just came over and lay their heads on my laps with sad facial expression to comfort me. Normally, when I came home from work, as soon as I entered the door, they would run over with excitement that I'm home. This time they knew that I needed them more than they needed me. They came to greed me and comfort me. My tears rolling down that how much they loved me.

Dogs have emotions very similar to humans. Separation from a loved one is as traumatic with them as it is with humans, EXCEPT they do not understand what is happening and some shut down. Imagine the heartache of those poor doggies in shelters with broken hearts 💔 They most likely suffer different kinds of trauma, experience no love or kindness and after painful days are killed because someone treated them like trash.
My heart ♥️ and prayers go out to those doggies given no respect and killed. Please adopt a homeless 🐶 doggie that will learn to LOVE you forever.

I'm 61 and had rescued a one year old standard pitbull. She came from a local shelter moving her body with a long sad face up and down against the front of the cage. She was like please take me home. She had spent a year in the Philadelphia SPCA prior to coming out to the media SPCA. The family new she was the one. My daughter named her Sadie. She has been the best thing to me recovering from a breakdown. Now she is 11.5 years old and my best buddy. I love her. Yes one night say she is a bit spoiled but every day she gives me unconditional love. What a wonderful girl. We saved her and she saved me. I think pitbulls are the sweetest dogs that one could ask for. My baby girl has a harder time getting up now but still manages to jump on the bed to sleep. We have four separate beds for her throughout the house. Plus she will jump up in our bed still. I could go on but I'll just say this. Whom ever said dog is man's best friend is 100% correct!! 💯❤❤

This story is incredibly moving and shines a heartfelt spotlight on the unbreakable bond between a soldier and their loyal companion. Jack and Rex’s journey from disconnection and mistrust to rediscovering their shared history is a testament to the healing power of patience, love, and perseverance. As someone who values stories about redemption and second chances, I found this narrative both poignant and inspiring.
What stood out to me most was the story’s ability to mirror the struggles of human relationships-particularly those affected by trauma. Jack’s determination to rebuild trust with Rex echoes the struggles many veterans face when reconnecting with loved ones or society after experiencing the scars of war. This parallel adds depth and relatability, making the story not just about a man and his dog, but about the universal need for healing and understanding.
A highlight of the narrative is the subtle pacing, where small gestures-like Rex sniffing Jack’s hand or retrieving the rubber ball-feel monumental. These details beautifully showcase the slow but meaningful process of healing. However, one suggestion for improvement could be to delve deeper into Rex’s perspective, even briefly. Exploring his internal conflict or gradual recognition of Jack could add another emotional layer and enrich the storytelling.
Overall, this story left a lasting impression on me. It’s a powerful reminder of the importance of never giving up on those we care about, even when the road to reconnection feels uncertain. I would love to see more stories like this that explore resilience, loyalty, and the profound ways we rebuild trust.

Oh my goodness if I saw him in a shelter or her, I would grab him in a minute you wouldn’t even have to ask me twice.❤ very heartwarming story. I’m glad they both reunited. I know I would want to. Thank you for your service both of you.❤ I have a German Shepherd. I bought her because my husband had PTSD and he could’ve had her trained as a service dog. But he had issues and he didn’t want her. What a mistake he made. She is gorgeous. She is so intelligent, and I trained her myself, and she knows all the commands. Although she’s not a service dog, she’s always watching out for me. And I watch out for her. I just love her she’s like my child. I also have a Yorky and he’s a male and I love him just as much. He is my bodyguard. Also he travels with me everywhere cause he’s so little. And he gets anxiety attacks if I don’t take him with me. People think that I’m the one that needs emotional support dog. I am so happy that you both found each other. I took on a giant Pyraneese, he had four homes before me, it was love at first sight, but his eyes were black with mistrust and bad memories, it took three months before his eyes changed to brown. With time, much love, we built trust, which is not given freely. Bit by bit my dog Kace, would show me things in actions what had happened to him and gradually, his fear left him. Since having him, I’ve always slept on the couch and he’s never been alone, which built our friendship up, I’ve had him over five years now and what we have is very special and the love and trust we have, still brings a lump in my throat. We both needed each other, both had bad and sad memories, but love will overcome everything, Kace has the home and the companionship free from fear, replaced with love and we have both found, joy and happiness and most importantly love, as love will conquer all, as love is all there is in this world. God bless you and Rex. You will both find victory soon ❤❤

I cant believe these dogs end up in shelters either. But this one had an ending that even myself who does not allow my self to cry any more......shed a tear for.

A sad but motivational story. Even a dog can feel pain and trauma.

A comment can't begin to enlighten those who haven't known this❤ and bond.I had a similar bond with a German Shepherd that my children and I took in for a friend. My miniature poodle just passed after 17 years.❤❤❤ To make his story, which was filled with blessings daily fit; I know that 🙏 little dog had 🪽 wings!!!I saved his life once, and he returned the favor. That is a fact. I have just adopted a rescue .💕I'm working hard, but I encourage anyone who has the opportunity to do any task, no matter how small, to bond with an animal. ❤️❤️🐕

It was so touching my dad trained dogs in World War II. He also trained our dog when he got home. She was a German Shepherd. Her name was Jody. I miss them both terribly 12 vets out there and their service animals thank you for your service!!🎖️🎖️

Wonderful story. If you’re lucky once in a life time you have this special relationship with your dog. It happened to me , my boxer dog Snowflake she was my child. After her death I mourned her and one day I checked our security cameras and saw her coming home. I have kept a copy of this and Thank God for allowing her to come back I know she waits for me .

These dogs are war heroes, and should be treated as such America needs to honor them and give them highest regards.

Please, Chief of Staff, do something to begin the actual recognition of these very brave dogs (k9’s). These dogs. just like all military personnel. give their all during times of conflict; please recognise their service & support them in later life,
    Thank you in anticipation,
    Jane Russell

I am so sorry for all the trauma our veterans have experienced. So many lives damaged for the greed and power grabs of governments!
