In today's video, we’re focussing on managing urinary symptoms in order to maintain a normal daily routine.
Our host Ardra Shephard returns to quiz urology consultant, Professor Brian Birch, about the bladder and MS. Why are people with MS more prone to UTIs? What can you do to reduce the risk of developing an infection? How can you prevent incontinence or retention? He enlightens us about all this, and more.
There is a wide and diverse range of urinary symptoms associated with MS, depending on which nerves have been affected. The most important thing that you can do is talk to your urologist, MS nurse or other member of your healthcare team that you feel most comfortable with about any urinary, bowel or sexual discomfort. As Professor Birch reminds us, it is very rare that there is nothing they will be able to do to improve your symptoms.
Have you got a top tip for preventing UTIs or easing discomfort? Spread the word and share your knowledge with others in the same boat ⬇️

Thank you for tackling the less talked-about topics! It’s so important for health and well-being, both physical and mental. Sharing this with my family friend with MS now…

Thank you so much for this. I just had a UTI that flared my symptoms so much I thought I was having a relapse. I since had a course of antibiotics and feel a lot better. Do please keep these videos coming, they are very helpful and reassuring 🙏😊
