And - YES, the airflow is sufficient with the setup I have. Rarely gets used in summer - if at all anyway. No there is not significant heat in temps around 70. Inside the box only got to 88 degrees. The fan is 950CFM. I had to play around with the box openings to find the right balance of temperature, flow, & sound deadening.

You kind Sir, did a great job in reducing noise with your shed. And there is one more thing you can do; that I saw on another DIY'r video on RUclips a couple of days ago. Where he made boxes outside the shed too. But he did something different in building the boxes..
So he made two compartments box. Where the middle part was half way from the front and back of the box. But, that middle part is not all the way. And if you can think of it; it causes the air to make two 90° changes straight up OR down (from the vent and the fan). And it makes the sound much reduced.
He was a engineer and he said, "Air has no bother when change its direction. But noise does NOT like that all. Especially two 90°'s; in both boxes. And he used DB testers; and the reduction of noise was another 20 DB reduced. And all and all, he made the normal noise reduce 50% for the shed.
I was awesome and fascinated seeing that. IF "RUclips" would let us use "links" I could let you see how he did it. I believe most would really be amazed.
For when you see it, you won't believe how much noise was muted. One could hardly hear any noise. Really.

Nice build thanks. I have a Westinghouse 12,500 running on the same propane I use on the grill. Fires right up.
If you further added a layer of light air conditioning duct metal and/of foil around the entire case including the opening for air and exhaust, and a 10foot copper grounding rod connected to #4 copper grounding wire, or just use the house ground from the panel, you have the start of a good Faraday cage for EMF protection. Some great ideas here, Thanks for sharing. Turbo exhaust wrap will solve all your pipe heating problems. Make sure you are earth grounding at least the generator or someone could get shocked ⚡️ always use a grounding conductor that is at least matches the gauge of the largest conductor you use for power delivery.

I got a steel shed a bit bigger than yours but i got it that big because i lined the inside walls with sand bags and old trick from army day's it really knocks the sound down from inside the shed dirt is a great muffler

Muffler from HarryU pull it - GENIUS!…that’s great…Let Toyota build it , U just mod it…yeah I agree forget the build yr own muffler jazz. its so great that everyone who built these things made the “ I should a done this or that” but we all benefit from those things as you all document your builds.. So thank u and great build. I’m def gonna “borrow” the junk yard muffler idea!

Your Shed exhausted fan and the Generator muffler are closed together is good... I Combined them two in Extensions Compartment To Reduce Sound Level further without using the car muffler or any muffler silencer... B.C. people said it doesn't do well in reducing noise level
ONE more week I finish it and will Test How much more in Sound reductions on my project

I was thinking about installing a generator inlet box on the inside of the shed with male connector tied to another inlet box outside the shed with female connector and tie them together to reduce the need for a hole to pass the wire thru.
So I could hook the cord to the outside and then to my inlet box on the house.
Haven’t seen this yet so I’m curious on anyone’s thoughts.

you might want to put some chicken wire around the bottom of those black sound deadening boxes. first impression was those will become home to some animal.

Not sure if mentioned already, but did you consider the back pressure that the muffler would introduce on the exhaust valves? Not sure of the mathematical factors, but I have read elsewhere that it could be detrimental to the life of the engine.
There should be no additional back pressure since the opening gets larger beyond the OEM exhaust port (which is about an inch). All the piping, including the muffler is at least .5 to 1.0” larger.

Could you use the Kilmat sound deadening material everywhere? I have a small enclosure and don't want to make it smaller with the Rockwool material. I'm also concerned about the walls being too thin to put screws through only one of the layers.
I don’t see why not. Rockwool is hard to find sometimes

I had to buy more than I needed because it came in a fairly large pack. (10). But I only needed about 6 I think
I just ordered the same unit (T07571)...the Operators Manual P29/43 show a muffler... (Inspect Muffler and Spark Arrester) Does this model come with a muffler or is that an accessory ? Great video by the way.
Yes, it does have a muffler. But it’s very small and mostly just a spark arrestor. It doesn’t do much. Definitely worth fabricating more muffler. Lots of kits are available. The setup in my video is about as quiet as it will get - aside from the garbage can setup.
Some folks put their attic fan up high (theory being since heat rises).
I'm more prone to do what you did, keep it down low (close to the generator level).
What's your opinion about "heat rises" concept used by others.
I agree heat rises, but why not remove the heat (with the attic fan positioned low) before it rises?
Such a small area, high flow, straight through that it’s got tons of cooling regardless of where the fan is positioned
It looks like your fan is undersized setting you up for an overheat problem. I went through the learning curve to get it right. I direct you to "Eng-Tips Engineering forums. There input "Generator temperature in an enclosed compartiment". It is an egghead discussion by engineers on this topic and I think you will find it of interest.
Thanks for the suggestion. I appreciate it. This enclosure was tested in temps at or below 70 and had appropriate cooling. I know it will get too hot in summer. I can't imagine someone trying to run one like this in an enclosure during the hot months. I'd just run it outside and let the noise issue go. My power usually only goes out due to winter storms - and if the gov't does rolling brown outs in summer - I'll take it out and run it. Thanks.
Nice set up. I did not know that adding boxes will make a difference in the sound level. I have the same exhaust set up with the exception of the muffler. I will experiment with adding sound boxes at the exterior since I have some spare rockwool left. Thanks for the video.
Could have taken the wheels off since you're not rolling this around anyway. A theft deterrent as well, if you bolt it down.

Another video the guys fan failed and the generator overheated.
That’s why I have the wireless thermometer link in the description. I don’t think I mentioned it in the video - but I keep a sensor inside the box and the monitor in the house. Then, I have the monitor set to alarm if it gets over 95 inside the box. So, obviously you’d have to be home (which I would never run a generator while away from the area anyway). Did you take the little screen spark arrestor out when you added the extension?
Yes. Since I’m using a muffler.

Does anyone know if this will defeat the CO2 sensor? Ours keeps shutting the generator off, thanks!
No problems here. This generator doesn’t have a CO2 sensor.
Do you know what the temperature is inside the box?
I have a remote sensor inside the box. So I can monitor it anytime it’s running. But I do not run this thing in the summer. Because it’s on the sunny side of the house. But to answer your question yes I do know the temperature. And it only got up to about 95° during the cooler months while it was running which is acceptable.
