    According to my Garmin watch my VO2 Max has gone from 39 to 45 in the last year. I've always been physically active but for some reason decided to get into running in my late 40s and for some even more bizarre reason decided to sign up for an ultramarathon in 5 weeks.
    But it shows what can be done at any age (sort of). We can all just push things forward and go for it. My aim is to hit 50 by the end of next year.

      Get interval training. My VO2 went up from 48 to 51 after a few weeks of hill reps

      How are you able to eat 0 carbs? I didn’t think that was possible since most foods contain some amount of carbs.

      @@martinlutherkingjr.5582 , You are right, but for the sake of simplicity I don’t go into explaining that you do intake carbs with dairy and animal protein , something it is discussed all the time with GYM folks who still believe that you need to eat carbs in order to perform , well I proved them wrong every time. Most important is to replace the carbs with fat ( just to avoid another discussion here ) so yeah.. in this case : no added cards to my diet sounds better ? I should use this frase from now on.
      All the best and have a great day . And take it easy ok ?

    How do we calculate it

    • @FlatToRentUK
      @FlatToRentUK 10 месяцев назад +6

      There's a few different ways to find it out with varying accuracy. The best is go to a lab and they'll test you to exhaustion on a treadmill or a bike for a couple of hundred bucks. Most people just have a fitness tracker like a Garmin watch and when they compare to a lab test it's normally not far out. Or you can do something like a Cooper Test where you run flat out for 12 minutes and your result depends on how far you ran.
      The big question is how high should it be? Attia pretty much says try to get to 50. But he has a model in his book showing the decline with age so it depends on how old you are and what level of physical capability you want at age 70/80/90. Aim high would be good advice.

      Do cardio. Having a low VO2 max is pretty bad because you'll become unhealthy and misserable sooner.

      Small v is velocity or oxygen flow. Big V there represents volume or cubic space. Which makes more sense when they're using the 'engine efficiency' analogy.

      A) do cardio on a consistent basis (3-4 times a week if possible)
      B) devote 30 minutes of that to hard training (3-5 minutes intervals at 92%+ of max heart rate)
