I picked him up hitch hiking on the gt western highway in the blue mountains after he left rehab early he stayed at my terrace house in Surry hills
for 2 weeks cool guy no airs n graces just a normal guy with his problems like us all sadly missed mate
Saw the Easybeats live in Warnambool in May, 1965. I'd seen the Beatles in June '64, and Stones in February '65. Much as I loved the greatest British bands, Stevie Wright was the best frontman of all time! 💯

You can't help but want to cry when you see this......the years of abuse clearly worn on his face....putting on the bravest of faces....then that sinking feeling when you see all the scars on his elbows and arms....it obviously was not an easy time for him....yet when push came to shove he found a way to secure that voice that was so iconic to the Australian music scene....may the great man rest in peace.

Music from the 60s and 70s will still be heard for many of hundreds of years to come.
I doubt anything from the last thirty years will ever be remembered.
@@paulgrey8028 Gosh, you sound just like the old folks back in the 60s and 70s who didn't like the current music back then, and were sure that the music of Al Jolson would be heard hundreds of years into the future.
I take back what I said. We do occasionally hear original, or at least good songs, that are big hits right now. Examples: "Too Sweet" by Hozier. "Dilemma" by Green Day. "Make it All Right" by the Offspring. "Kid" by the Revivalists. "Hello" by Group Love. "Panoramic View" by Awol Nation. "Where the Wild Things Are by Luke Combs. "Pompeii" by Bastille. "Empty Nest" is a great original song by the Silversun Pickups. Even Taylor Swift has occasionally come out with good music; my favorite by her is "Cruel Summer", and I like "I Knew you were Trouble" which are well written, and will last as long as the music you like. As for 30 years ago, there's "Buddy Holly" by Weezer.
A good obscure tune from from 2022 is "Back to the Days of I Don't Knows" by Yea-ming and the Rumours. My favorite from 2000 is "The End of the Planet" by The Adventures of Jet. When you get into songs that are played on college radio stations like KALX Berkely California, CJAM in Windsor, Ontario, WFMU in Orange NJ, and so many others across North America, you'll find a cornucopia of great new songs that would stand the test of time if only more people heard them.
Music from the '60s and '70s may still be heard for hundreds of years to come, but only by music professors in the top universities and their students and lecture attendees. Otherwise that music will be forgotten by the general public in less than a couple hundred years.
You don't believe me? Al Jolson's popularity back in the 1920s was comparable to that of the Beatles in the 1960s.
Ask 20 people under the age of 35 to name two songs by Al Jolson. I'd wager that none of them would be able to name even one, and they probably never even heard of him!

Never knew too much about you. They used to play Friday on my mind on the local channels down here in Florida every Friday afternoon at 5pm . Loved that song . I was young , had a pretty girl and the weekend was here ! I understand Mr Wright passed in 2015 I believe. I say he Was a great performer . He looked like he was having fun here. Thank you Mr Wright .
I am again reminded that this maybe my favourite Australian song amongst a sea of great songs.

Amazing how this song had such an iconic 60's sound, yet fits seamlessly into the 80s like it was made for that too.
Bloody hell. That was just sound check. Stevie was a natural force of nature. He was what he was. He was not strictly a musician and his willingness or discipline to stick with writing lyrics fell away when the boys got to England. Yet he was the major selling point for the band. George was the driving force but it was Stevie who sold them. He was and even in death remains, quite possibly the best rock and roller that ever was. If you look at the great vocalists like Gillen, Plant Osbourne, Dio...generally when the show was over and the music stopped so did they. Stevie lived it 24 hours a day. Like I said he was a force of nature. This sound check says it all. RIP mate. I hope you and George are together.

I hear that when he got to England the British record executives told him that his songs were basic and unsophisticated so he just gave up and let George continue to write with Harry. IMO the best Australian front man of all time.
@@cricko282 not so the poms thought the songs were too light but they were totally misguided we were Aussies and in their eyes never good enough . Taking Stevie out of the equation was a mistake not releasing songs such as Sorry and I'll make you happy was a mistake . Never question Stevies vocal ability and stage presence he was brilliant

JEEZUZ! The power and raw talent of this iconic front man is a formidable force of nature. Such a sad, sad waste of a life down to the drugs he was captive to. Yes he made a mistake when he tried Heroin.
But he tried to get help for it and checked himself into the Chelmsford private hospital.where
They were given him a cocktail of drugs? To treat him for his drug addiction'. Not to sure if this was a great decision?

They put him in a deep sleep induced coma for two weeks or more.
Add that to them given him 14 Electronic shock treatment's with his permission.
They Fried his brain to the point that he had suffered from brain Damage.
I think that if Doctors Frankenstein and there assistance Egor Stevie wright would have been able to get Clean of his additions. And live a normal happy life.
He lost Everything that he cared about.

His Son &. and his music 🎵🎶 career. He has paid for it the rest of his life.
It is very sad that he is the only person who had a very serious Drug problem and Never forgiven for it.
I'm sure that if Stevie had known about the side effects and the way his life would be like. HE WOULD Not Have Tried it.

We opened for the Easybeats in Northwich Memorial Hall in Cheshire in 1967 I think. They were all really nice people, especially Stevie Wright, and they were great with us.

Meaning, bands were in serious competition with each other in to get gigs and recording contracts, which were in limited supply,. Which is why the ones that succeeded were so good. But they also supported and promoted each other.
We opened for them in Memorial Park, Royal Oak.

i laughed at the thought that the jonas brother or anybody of today could be as good as the easybeats lol. you need talent to do that and nobody today has any. the music died in 1999. now you have to pick and chose for anything worth listing to. good luck

Was fortunate to attend Stevie's last two gigs at Seven Hills Hotel and Vauxhall Inn (Parramatta) both brilliant. Remember him as a time keeper at state rail joking about this outside the venue prior to concert. What a front man, musical legend, national treasure and a wicked sense of humour. Rest In Peace Stevie.

These guys eere from an era that is lost forever - but for those of us lucky to be alive in the 60s it was an amazing time! Before rock musicians took things for granted.

As a kid from the sixties I can tell you the day the music died was in the 80's with the beginning of rap and the world owes me a living
I adored these guys in England in the 60's.
Computers killed real rock musicianship. That along with live music disappearing from pubs in Australia.
@@joeflaherty4682 MTV killed it before they allowed rap to be played in my opinion. It’s not an accident that the first video MTV aired was “Video Killed The Radio Star.” Made music too much of a visual medium instead of letting the music communicate on its own. Many people made their videos work for them but a generation turning on their TV for music led to too many of the insipid people who look good on stage but can’t sing or write a real tune. Computers and autotune just put the nails in the coffin.

I listen to a man on RUclips channel called Wings of Pegasus live stream on Saturday night and Tuesday night At 11 o'clock.
He tells you about what happens to people who are trying to make it in the music industry.
The recording industry pays for everything you do.
Like travel hotel's every thing you need to become famous.
But if you don't make it you have to pay it All back to them.
You could end up owning them hundreds of dollars.
You have to sell a lot of records to even break even you end up owing everyone who was managing you.
There is a lot that goes into it.
Long story short. The music industry is very corrupted.
They don't care about the artist, just the Money they make off of them.
Stevie Wright was totally cut from the same cloth as Bon Scott!
"Evie" Parts 1, 2 and 3 are some of the greatest rock riffs ever written -- up there with "Stairway To Heaven" and "Bohemian Rhapsody."

AC/DC was started by George Young as a new backing band for Stevie. Trouble was Stevie kept on failing to show up and was dumped.
No way, his voice was fantastic! He would have had to start a 3pack a day smoking habit and gargled with broken glass and whiskey to sing for that shit band you mentioned!

Just discovered this young kid in his 1967 performance & i was immediately taken by his personality. Luv this song so much i play when i can. Saw his 1988 soundcheck & still he’s smiling & sounds so good. I read that he got into drugs & alcohol. How sad for him to live his life w/such damage. Wonder what caused him to lose himself.
