Half-Life 2: Episode Two - Hunting Party [Hard]

- En-route to White Forest, Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance makes a pit stop at a radio station to try to warn the Resistance of the Combine forces head their way. However, before they can send off the message, they are ambushed by a large group of Hunters, the same units that injured Alyx just hours prior, in a heart-pounding first battle against the fearsome Synths.

Quick note: I am aware that the Gravity Gun is the best weapon to use against the Hunters in this battle, but I mainly used my guns to drag out the battle (and the awesome soundtrack). If I had used the Gravity Gun the fight would've been over in a minute because of all the props in the map :)
The only time I used the gravity gun at this part was when I was using the explosive barrels against the hunters

Btw how did the hunter vaporised after you shot it with a barrel?
@@miggy7334 you need to get them to hit an object with their flechettes, then fling the object back at them, thus disintegrating them with their own flechettes.
Very gracious of Alyx to call her own death “a setback” and leave it at that. Sheesh!

Loved the hunter sounds in the ambience. It's so eerie yet relaxing at the same time, I can't describe it haha
I was shitting myself as a kid in this part, one of my favorites moments in videogames
I was scared too but I was also determined to take down these Hunters for injuring Alyx haha

Seeing Alyx talking herself into it, building confidence with each Hunter killed and eventually overcoming her fears was such a feel good moment. She still gets creeped out by Hunters throughout the rest of the game but she knows they can be killed from here on out
That's something I loved about this sequence as well. If I recall, from the developer commentary Valve said they deliberately had Alyx pump herself up as a way to motivate the player as well. Exceptionally well done!
this is honestly a really important character moment for alyx, she gets to get her revenge on the hunters. i think this helps alleviate her doubts about stopping the combine.
The way she hypes herself up for the fight is so badass

Deliberately parked my car there so that I'd be able to hit it easily :)
Hunters are one of my favorite enemies in FPS games. Their mechanics, the way they get introduced to the player, the aesthetics of their design. 10/10 for me.
Well played, and you did way too good against them than I do xD (even on MMOD, which I strongly recommend playing after vanilla HL2)
I have yet to play MMOD but everybody has told me it's fun. I'll definitely have to try it one day!

Only fitting way to end the battle ;) I wanted to show as many ways to kill the hunters as possible
The final kill was lovely, but honestly that first kill with perfectly timed shotgun when it's in mid-charge makes my spine tingle with delight.

Man I love the hunters such a cool design choice hell I spent 3 days coding a working hunter in gmod e2 for a half life rp server.
I agree! The synth designs in HL2 are so great.
I like how cinematically you play. As a kid I always rammed all of the hunters, wasn't as fun as dragging it out

when i was playing this mission i kept hearing the Hunter noises, i kept looking around and found nothing, i ignored it but i knew something was watching me, their horrifying.
And all those dead Rebels too - you just know that they're lurking about
I had ultra shitty audio back then so when the devs commentaries said there's a hunter sound i was like "WHERE"
Hey Nutella, are you thinking of playing HL1+expansions after finishing Ep.2? Or maybe even the Portal games since Half Life and Portal are related
Don't really have any concrete plans after EP2. I'm probably going to take a break since I've basically uploaded non-stop since Half-Life: Alyx! I love the Portal games and will definitely consider playing them. As for Half-Life 1, don't think I'll upload a playthrough as I think I've covered similar ground with Black Mesa. Maybe the Gearbox expansions, but I've only played through them all once so I'll need to get a lot better before considering uploading content for those games.
I do actually have a couple of ideas for some non-playthrough videos that I think you guys might like. But I'm keeping those under wraps for now ;)

I wanted to showcase the various ways that Hunters can be killed. Killing them with the car is always the most satisfying ;)
You ever noticed that Hunters and its attacks are a bit similar to Pit Drones from Opposing Force?

If you don’t have at least 6 revolver bullets these guys are a menace
4:08 to 5:06 was pretty much badass moment
Definitely tried to make Freeman a badass with how he dispatched the hunters :)
Running them over is easy at first, but they get smarter at the final battle and dodge your car unless you corner them.

Alyx confronting the hunters head on was my favorite part about this battle. Also, all of HL2 episode 2 had this ominous feel to it. This game has aged so gracefully.
no wonder are Allen freand choose this vehicle it is compatible for all situation truly the greatest invention. love hitting those alien cyborg with a rusty brook car

Like a year ago this was one of my favorites Half-Life songs. I have to say, it's painfully quiet here. Or is it just me?
Not just you, unfortunately the sound mixing in EP2 is kind of weird, with a lot of the tracks being a lot more quiet during gameplay. I have it maxed out in my settings but that didn't do much.

Going to be taking a break from uploading, since I've basically uploaded non-stop since Half-Life: Alyx! I might actually replay Half-Life: Alyx to get the Gnome achievement (though I won't necessarily be recording that). I also have some other ideas that I am keeping under wraps for now :)
