Wonderful, generous video. Thank you Orla... I love making zines and books and your reflective books are a fantastic idea. I am floundering atm, so reflection and direction are sorely needed. Dream BIG indeed! Have a lovely break and I look forward to seeing you in 2025!
Thank you Orla! I hope you enjoy your adventures and get some rest and inspiration! You’ve really encouraged my own creative process, your videos are so helpful! I would love any content on reworking old works. Overpainting and/ collage. Thank you again and happy new year!
Thank you so much for sharing, like always, your inner thoughts and also the booklets. I am a no planner, because I have learned the hard way, thar life happens every second and you can't control it. I really wish you happy everyday in 2025 and please don't be so rigid with yourself. Your art is beautiful and for me full of your own true, let go of perfection and embrace the weirdo in you, after all we are all light and dark and we have to connect with the contrasts to became full and truly one.
Thank you Orla for your wonderful videos here on RUclips and all your resources, videos and meetups on Patreon, they are truly inspirational and I've loved every minute. Wishing you a fantastic holiday and a well deserved break 😀🏵️
Happy New year and thank you Orla for this insightful, thought provoking video! I always come away feeling refreshed & inspired after watching your videos! Enjoy your rest and look forward to the next video
It is lovelie to watch you here .I'll watch it again because -not only is it encouraging to consider reflecting on my own year, it's lovelie to see you in your own art practice. All the best for a wonderfully fulfilling year ahead. PS. Also from Australia.
Thank you, Orla💚You are wonderful. For 2025 I want to keep painting watercolor & mixed media, keep enjoying the supplies I have. Reflection, good for me to dream🌟Big
Thank you so much for sharing, it's so inspiring! I think one of my main goals is to start working on larger substrates and get out of my sketchbooks a little bit, also I want to learn printing techniques, starting with something easier like a gelli plate and then probably learning more about linocuts!
I love your videos! They're always so calming and motivating at the same time☺️ I might have missed the info but how can one get your activity book? It looks like a lot of fun!!
This is such a nice video, really love the reflections books too. I have been watching a bunch of videos and would love to start painting more on 2025. Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of table space to work and love how you work on the floor! Reminds me of making art as a kid ❤ can I ask what sort of rug/mat you use to protect your floor? I would love to be a bit more messy when I work
Ohh that sounds great; and yes it makes me feel like a kid too - also so easy to clean up after! This one is a cheap & cheerful rug from ikea, its a cotton weave and so far has been great for catching all the extra media 🌞
Hello Orla I've come to never miss one of your videos. Thank you for sharing and taking the time. I'm part of a similar workshop this year again: looking back over 2024 and opening up to the energy of the year coming. We make our own booklets, and yours inspire me (I can't seem to see the pdfs in the description though). I've put one of your print works on my wishlist... We shall see what Christmas brings... :) To say it shortly: THANK YOU. All the best from France Camille
Hey Camille! Thank you so much, and your workshop sounds lovely! Here's the link to download; www.patreon.com/posts/free-creative-118280870 Hope you have a beautiful holiday!
yr shares resonate in my heart... similar to justine lecomte, from a diff creative practice w/ similar ethics & values ... this has been a mixed media year, many tools practiced with joy the main incentive... this has helped me deal w/mundane issues in creative ways, usually unplanned yet related to yr focus on collaboration outside the usual boxes, personally & digitally. Ty orla for yr voice.
Very interesting video Orla, thank you! I instantly went off to print out the booklets and I'm going to be using them soon. I'd love to see your art in a zine or yearly calendar sometime in the future (and pleeease also as a download which makes it so much more accessible for non-UK residents). Wish you very nice holidays and MERRY CHRIIISTMAAS!!
Also wanted to say: I took part in your free workshop like 2 months ago and it was so lovely. I really loved how you took care of everyone while also sharing your process and letting us learn from you. It was just soo nice!
aw great to hear, I hope you enjoyed them! great idea for the download option - I have fallen in love with zines lately so watch this space 😄 thanks so much for joining the workshop too, it was great fun!
Hi Orla, thanks so much for your hard work to make your videos. I feel like I'm not spending enough time too on my art right now but I don't know if that's just too high expectations...can you tell us how many hours you spend in a week painting and do you have designated days/blocks of time to paint, please. Do you plan your week at the start? many thanks in advance, from Canada.
Hello! Thanks for watching :) I think it’s such a personal/individual thing, and comes into how life is & how you like to work. There’s deffo no ‘right’ number of hours to be practicing or working, and thinking about paintings and being out in the world topping up the creative cup is also part of the practice - and rest. All that said, my personal weeks vary massively - I work between painting and illustration so some weeks with client heavy workloads I’m just in sketchbooks, sometimes not even that. And then some weeks I can be super intensive and paint solidly :) I’ve found a rhythm in painting in max 2-hour chunks which works for my brain, and I loosely plan my weeks but it inevitably changes ☀️
@@OrlaStevens thanks for your reply. I appreciate your comments, seeing that there's a skill in finding a habit/routine in a fluid structure. I like the idea of 2 hour painting chunks- it makes it feel do-able, plus there's an intensity motivation.
