- I've never done so much work and spent so much time on a $600 car. In this video, I'll show you Volvo 850 blend door repair, Volvo 850 temperature sensor fan repair, how to remove the Volvo 850 dash, Volvo 850 odometer repair and more! 32:40 - That's a probe adapter for a multimeter. You can use that to probe into the backside of a connector.

Well. Cheap is relative. Not many other cars that old are actually still running. The plastics disintegrate, but the rest of the car runs forever.

It's a needle probe Mike. The needle probe allows you to connect an oscilloscope or measuring probe to the contacts of the vehicle's electrical equipment. (same thing as a back probe) Back probes (also called back pinning) are an alternative method for piercing wire while still avoiding stripping or cutting wire insulation to access the conductor. The back probes needle contact tip is inserted in-between the wire insulation and the conductor to achieve instant connection.
Hi Monkey Wrench Mike, you continue to amaze with your skills and tenacity. I had considered getting a Volvo in the past but after what you went through, I don't know. Anyway great vid and give Lola and Benzo some love from me. Keep it up but don't push yourself too much and remember to take care of your health. I just watched Randy's video on the Monte Carlo paint job and it turned out great and it sounds and runs great so I hope she gives you guys a nice uneventful power tour but don't forget some tools just in case. Had the same problem with a 2005 Lexus es 330. Cool air from the right vents and warm from the left. A charge of refrigerant solved the problem. Cold air from both sides. Nothing wrong with the blend doors.

The mystery green thing looks like a multimeter probe that someone else lost in there and didn't go to all that effort to find 😂
That's the reason why older cars and tech are so good when it breaks you normally just need to lubricate, clean or scrape a certain area and it works again on the other hand tech nowadays you need the whole thing new .

Always good to see you Mike! Just did the 6 bulbs in my climate control unit on my 07 xc70. Volvo only blue bulbs $18 each!! Necessary as they were all gone but ugh all the same! Also got a hankering for another W215!! Just love the look of them but god help me 😭😭

Mike, that dash is very easy to access, imagine removing the whole dash for a job like that. Plastic parts disintegrating, that is what you get with older new cars.

That looks like a needle attachment for a multimeter lead end. Ive never seen one that color though

Electric contact cleaner is either pure alcohol or acetone. You can use way way less. And applied to a Q-tip will be even less and it will clean great.

What is your pressures with max AC, high fan? Low should be 35-40; high 200-275 (depending on how hot the ambient is and how dirty the condenser and radiator are) you may not be able to properly charge it by pressures though, if the blend doors are not working correctly. They need to be on full cold. Best to start with an empty system, under a vacuum and weigh in the specified amount. (There should be a sticker under the hood somewhere. Probably holds between 24 and 40 oz. Being a Volvo it's likely in grams)
That mystery thing appears to be a back probe.. Someone's been in there before.and from the corrosion or rust I would say quite a while ago

Hi Mike, I think the piece you found in the dash is a probe from a voltage tester, it looks exactly like the ones that came with mine. (You may notice I didn't mention the duck, Duh) 🤗
I don't see how you can stand that duck quacking in your ear while trying to concentrate on what you're doing. I get mad at traffic going by when I'm trying to work on the car, I can't imagine having that noise nonstop . You must be an incredibly patient person, or you're just a glutton for punishment. Still lovin' the content, I just have to mute the sound and use the CC. LOL

My 98 S90 had a heater control valve on the firewall in the engine compartment. The vacume shuts it off when the engine is running and the heater shut off.
See that little glass bulb inside the fan(thermometer) , don’t break it!

I’ve long insisted that Volvo used lingonberries to make all the plastics. They’re horrible. My 940 would run forever but every piece of plastic disintegrated, even the lights.

Too many computers, too many servos, way too many electronics! Give me the system used in my old AMC s. It had levers that pulled cables that moved doors. You could also open and close vents manually. The heater could melt your toenails and the air conditioning could freeze your tender vegetation!
