    What's your favourite grip size? Has anyone tried the Gasquet-style baseball bat but cap?

    I go slightly small with a #2 grip, i take the oddly big Yonex replacement off and replace w leather. The "wave" yonex overgrip makes it feel much bigger tho. Pronation and control are better w smaller size imo

    Excellent video. I’ve stressed a lot about which grip size to use and your relaxed and balanced view on this has really helped my thinking - great point about the diameter to volume ratio.

    Indeed I have seen and used a size 6 grip ( 4 3/4 ). It is indeed a handful. I used one briefly about 46 years ago 2 years after embracing the sport. I used it on the advice of a seasoned, solid player that told me the bigger the grip the more stable my groundstrokes would feel in my hand. It was obviously also a very heavy racket. I had been using a 4 5/8 very comfortably until that point. The reasoning again was the larger the grip and heavier the racket the stronger the shot. I used the racket for about 5 months and indeed it helped develop more power and stability. It made my forearm larger and more striated, therefore more powerful which was the expectation. I switched back to my 4 5/8 Donnay Allwood after about 5 months. Ever since I have used a 5/8. I was taught to play in the fashion of the time and the larger grip sizes worked very well for me. I still use a 5/8 ( if available ) and I don't possess the modern buggywhip forehand. I am a much flatter hitter with sufficient topspin to keep the ball in the court. I remember my one handed backhand improved quite a bit after this experiment. Nowadays some manufacturers don't even bother to make a 5/8 size. My solution is to buy the 1/2, replace the basegrip with a tecnifibre wax grip max, (2.1 mm thickness) and that takes me to a 5/8 grip size. I've always had large hands and have used 5/8 since I was a little kid. Smaller grips feel unnatural to me, which has prevented me from experimenting with smaller grips. I could probably use a 1/2, but would most definitely feel the difference. I'm very happy with my groundstrokes so for me, the bigger the better.

    Clear, nice advice. May sound wierd, but to me just an overgrip is making huge impact on how I feel to play. Using an HEAD L4 (with any L3 I've my fingers touching the palm even if I'm not tall), without overgrip the wirst is really free and I can add tons of tipspin BUT the impact feels less "solid" and I've much less control. On the other hand, putting an overgrip on, it'ss locking the wirst, and even if I get less power, then I've much more control over the swing and can hit flatter shots without "moonball trajectories".

    I have been using a Yonex size 3. I replaced the base Yonex grip with a thicker grip and added an overgrip and the diameter came to exactly 4. I think Yonex base grips are thin and the handles slightly larger. I have moved from a 3 to a 4 Yonex and think I prefer it. I am 6’1

      I try to play with small grip and got problems with wrist and elbow. After putting solid overgrip got much more comfortable. It is better have bigger grip than smaller.

    I am age 72 & have developed tennis elbow. I play with "old style"-long swing, contintal grip, hit ball flat- I am using Wilson n6 grip 41/2 HS4 weight 260 grams string tension 56 (I think)
    Should I perhaps be using a slighly lighter racket , perghaps with a 4 3/8 grip?
    I am resting from tennis for a month & am doing recommended exercises
    Great video!

    I measured from the centre of my palm to the tip of my ring finger and it's 4 and 3/4 in, so I actually feel more stable and comfortable with a 5 in grip. I usually hold my racquet so that the butt just protrudes a bit beyond my palm. I used a 4 and 1/2 grip but got tennis elbow from it.

    Definitely a smaller grip is better if you hit the ball with a lot of spin. Besides you can feel more maneuverability and it's a personal taste.

    I have two Wilson Blade 98’s but the grip sizes are slightly different. One is a 4 3/8 and the other is 4 1/4. I like the 4 3/8 best. I was told to just add grip tape to my 4 1/4 racquet to make it match my 4 3/8. Does this work? I can’t tell if I can feel a difference or if it’s all in my head. But I tend to prefer the 4 3/8.

    Hi,
    Great video.
    Just a question...I have used 4 1/4 grip always but then got another 2nd hand 4 3/8 grip.
    Do you think that is ok or should I stick to 4 1/4 but 4 3/8 is not that much difference in term of Size grip , Control, Power or might get tennis elbow due to slightly bigger?

    • @modern_method
      @modern_method Месяц назад +1

      I go between 1/4 & 3/8 as well, I believe if you are more abt control, power with flatter shots, slightly thicker grip is better, if you are some kind of spin master or want to really use a flexible wrist all around then I would suggest you use 1/4, and I personally thing 1/8 is too small for an adult male unless you really have smaller hands. when my opponent Rips a power shot, I prefer a stable grip with at least 1/4 size or 3/8. I don't go larger than 3/8.

    Bought a Yonex vcore grip 3, turned out to be 4 1/2 or a 4 then.. Got a Pure Aero grip 2, that was 4 3/8 , so.. a 3! Checked a Blade 98 size 2 and yes, 4 3/8 as well! When did the measuring tape lost it’s function?

    Do you think it's more accurate to measure with the thumb up?
    I've seen people say to do the finger test with up and with thumb down, it makes a big difference which way you do it so I'm a bit confused

    • @VIP-lz4ht
      @VIP-lz4ht 3 года назад +1

      Also forehand vs continental when testing as well it makes a bit of difference too and I've seen both ways recommended
      I know it's not an exact science but I'm still curious your opinion?

    • @CourtsideSportsLTD
      @CourtsideSportsLTD  3 года назад +6

      @@VIP-lz4ht I would definitely measure with the continental grip. "Forehand" is too vague, as it's unknown if the forehand is Eastern, Western, Semi-Western. Thumb-up is the way that Tennis Canada recommends, and it was what is taught to junior players in Canada by certified coaches, so we have chosen to follow suit.

    I am confused.. I used size 3 for head racquet when I was in my late teens.. so when I heard that yonex fit big.. I bought size 2 yonex racquet. Then I started getting tennis elbow which I have never had in my 28 years of tennis... so maybe I bought too small..
    then, I went and bought a used yonex vcore pro size 4 and see if it made any difference
    when I compared yonex size 2, head size 3, yonex size 4 grip between the 3 racquets, I hold the racquet and put my finger on the empty space in my grip. All 3 racquets have almost identical spacing.. so I am not even sure which is the best fitted grip for me anymore

    my grip size measured is between L3 n L4 , but i just feel more comfortable using a L2. sometimes when i can feel the racket wiggle when i hit hard and thought i should go L3. but when i put another overgrip to bump up the grip size, i just play worst and dont feel comfortable. a yonex L2 fits be well. any idea if babolat or head L2 is similar/smaller or biggher than L2 of yonex?
