When she says,, "Look at that!," I think Floor was simply remarking on how nice the audience was to her, what a great reception she received.

This is one of the great pieces of sacred music in the western tradition. Floor willing to take most of the alto part allows her warmer lower tones to support Simone's more colored soprano. While you can get some technically better versions, I have yet to hear another version with as much warmth and emotion of a mother's pain.

How to quiet thousands of metalheads and still have them love it. LOL This is a hymn to that goes back to the 13th century.
This was at the Retrospect 10th anniversary show in 2013, same show as the Sancta Terra video you watched.

      Absolutely.
Thousands of metalheads really into it.
Perhaps we should consider for a moment the reverse, what if a metal song was played in the middle of a classical concert?
      It's worth a thought. . . . . . .

Can you imagine these thousands of young metal fans listening to this classical piece in such reverence. During the long into by the strings you could almost feel the pain Pergolesi was feeling when he composed this, his last masterpiece, knowing he was dying from tuberculosis at only 27 years old. Thanks for a great reaction.

Stabat Mater Dolorosa, meaning "Sorrowful Mother was standing" (at the cross) is a 13th century hymn. In 1736 a Baroque composer Giovanni Pergolesi wrote the musical setting for it, basically on his death bed, while he was dying of tuberculosis at the age of 26.
Quite sad story and a wonderful piece of art.
Since Epica already had a full orchestra with them, they decided to make a good use of it and play music like this. If you'd like to hear violin + electric guitar at the same concert, watch Epica - Presto (by Vivaldi).

Only last week, I was at Epica's 20th anniversary - but I sure would have love to be at the 10th anniversary and have this great experience. You won't hear Opera at a pop or rap concert, but you might at a Metal concert - Metalheads are opened to beautiful music regardless of the genre.

It was originally scored for soprano and alto voices, so in this version, although both Floor and Simone are sopranos, Floor takes on the lower alto part.

Though I am not religious, I consider this one of the most beautiful and moving things ever written. It is the first movement of a longer suite, the “Stabat Mater”, composed in 1736 by Giovanni Pergolesi. It is based on a 13th century hymn about Mary mourning her crucified son. Pergolesi was suffering from tuberculosis, and died the day he completed the suite. He was only 26 years old. “Stabat Mater” is written for soprano and contralto, though the contralto line is often performed by a counter-tenor. In the Epica version, Floor Jansen does the contralto line, which is just mind-blowing in itself given that she normally performs in the soprano register.

If you want to hear more about the vocal ins and outs of this song and this performance by Epica and Floor I would advise you to look for the reaction of Elizabeth Zharoff ("the Charsimatic voice") She is a top level opera singer who also loves metal, and she has done many reactions two Nightwish, Floor and Epica, and she is really nice, easy going, funny and witty personallity to boot.

The Stabat Mater is a 13th-century Christian hymn to Mary, which portrays her suffering as Jesus Christ's mother during his crucifixion. Its author may be either the Franciscan friar Jacopone da Todi or Pope Innocent III

Good evening 😊🍷, it's always a pleasure to watch someone receiving something unexpected. 😰 You looked like a boy on Christmas morning, unboxing something completely new but exciting 🤔😀. But your reaction is massive metal because of " Death Defying " curiosity for the unknown ⚠️😉 Your modest way by not reacting, when you just don't know, rocks. In the end, we can analyse as much as we want, but this was just LOVELY 😙! Greetings from Germany and parkinson's sucks 🤗⚘and EMPPU RULES 😎

Both Simone and Floor are sopranos, yet Floor sang the alto role. Sopranos usually can get deep enough to sing this part, but not with any degree of power like Floor did here. And as others have remarked, one of Floor's great talents is her ability to mesh her voice with any other singing partner. At the opposite end of the spectrum is Floor singing with Soilwork "Let this River Flow". Again she just fitted right in with Björn's singing - well I won't spoil the fun - you'll just have to react to it. ruclips.net/video/-yXB7CB6DmU/видео.html
