I have lost count of how many Triumph bottom ends I have built. I was a mechanic at a Triumph dealership back in the 80s. I have never seen a sludge trap that was not full. Ever.
Hi, just had the same problem with my 650, been stood for twelve years before i got it, felt hard to kick over mushy feeling at the kick start stripped it to find it had started to pick up on number two big end sludge trap was full of same sort of gooey sludge like what you found. I am now wondering if it is the rubber oil pipes that have degraded internally. Anyway keep up the good work great help. Cheers Baz
Thanks for sharing, I always learn something from your videos. Is the discoloring on the ends of those rods normal? You didn't bring it up, so I'm guessing it's not a problem. Although you did replace them. I'm going to take my gear box apart on my T140 next week, it'll be my first time doing it. I need to inspect the parts and try to figure out why it occasionally wants to jam into neutral on the upshift from 1st to 2nd gear. I've been watching a bunch of gearbox videos and reading forums in preparation. I'm kind of excited to get in there now that I understand how it works and how it goes together.
its pretty normal to have the burnt oil on the small ends. i swapped rods cuz at the end of the day the rad steel ones are not much more cost then rebuilding the OE
🔊Keep em long and informative as necessary , this is no problem at all👊🏻
Thanks, will do!
These unit videos make me realize why I love preunits. I scared my dog laughing when the crank popped out.
haha man i did not expect it to drop right away

you might be onto something there
This just great entertainment to many many enthusiasts, some other people will bail out early, but whatever.

@@dirtyshirtrichter8647 ok, so that's burnt oil. I thought the metal had changed color from the heat. Makes sense.

hell yeah!
😅 the videos are getting better every time. Maybe at the end of the video let us know what you plan to do next time?
Good idea!!
So after you cleaned my sludge trap, how long until it should be done again? Are modern oils better at keeping the trap clean?
air filters regular oil changes and modern oil make it so you dont have to worry as bad! youll be good for awhile man !
If you run an inline cartridge filter, is the sludgetrap still necessary?
thats a slippery slop the answer is depends on who you ask and trust
So why was there so much end play with the cam?
the bushing was loose in the case
@@dirtyshirtrichter8647 Thank You!
