Kvarforth is 36 and still behaves like an edgy little boy. I wouldn't give a damn about it, if it wasn't casting a shadow on the band. As much as I like Shining, it's getting harder and harder to separate the art from the artist. To say that this whole 'drama' is laughable would be an understatement.

@@RautaMetal I have seen them thrice, the second time I left before it was over, because the Band and the other fans were so pretentious and unlikable. Third time was quite more enjoyable, as Niklas seemed more humble and lay low on the bullshit. That might have been his off-night, actually ^^

I think what makes Niklas so cringey is how serious he takes himself. His Instagram stories make me laugh. I remember one where he was saying corona virus was a blessing and all this other “edgy stuff”. I wouldn’t care, but he takes it so serious and it’s hard to take HIM seriously in return.

Thanks for the update Rauta! When I watched this I remember a good friend of mine who had a distro back in the 90´s. He was really pissed with Niklas who had ripped him of around 50 000 skr for records, tshirts and shit. My friend has still not been payed that. Sounds like he still doing that stupid shit.

I feel like a few years ago Shining's drama (Niklas's drama) was actaully good for the band, the edgy interviews, self harm, fake death, handing out razor blades etc. But now it just seems to take from the music a bit, or maybe that is just me not liking Varg Utan Flock much. This inter-band drama and complaning about £££ is so un black metal, and is just weak humans fucking each other over. I have started to see the Batushka drama like that also, making a big online fuss is ok in some ways (having something stolen from you isnt cool)
But it also seems pathethic and against that evil, dark, hateful black metal ideology, and from what personal meaning I see in the art form of bm. And it's like the Gorgoroth drama with Ghaal, bringing in legal procedings just disrespcted the music. it was like shitting on Satan's altar, and washing it with holy water. It should be about the meaning, the music! Not the greed, of money or fame(black metal fame) but just the music, the expression.
Although at leat in that Ghaal example, it was solved properly via the courts, rather than this Shining merch drama

Living in Halmstad and being able to talk to their old drummer, Ludwig, one can fairly quickly understand how full of shit Niklas is. While shining as a band is great, the whole cult surrounding Niklas is just hilarious. I remember his "distro" where he just scammed everything and everyone.

I have been a huge fan of em in their early days then I gave up
I got a selfie with Kvarforth back in 2015, I got an offputting vibe from him. I liked maybe 1 or 2 songs from them, but I have always seen nicklas as a bit (or more) of a degenerate. Just my opinion.
I've watched a lot of interviews that were done with him and he seems super toxic. It's the main reason I'm so hesitant to listen to anything by them.

I guess I'm a part of the people who actually don't care. But I respect your opinion. I do can say he made a mistake now that I hear the other side of the story through your video and it's more less the same mistake Tom G had with Mia Wallace and that is getting personal with your business partnerships because when things go to shit and they split obviously shit like this happens. I still love their music. Erradication of the condition might be my favorite black metal song and the eerie cold is among my favorite records of all time. I do get this is not what 90's black metal was but have you seen other artists profiles, lives and actions on social media? The guys from dark funeral, nergal or satyr for instance, they live a not to 90's black metal lives if you ask me but then again I don't think it matters as long as the music is original and good. Maybe he should have taken this straight to court and evade this social media nonsense. Anyhow, not fulfilling purchase orders from your fans is probably the worst thing you could do for your business. I have never ordered anything from their site because shipping costs from Sweden to Mexico are just ridiculous. I traveled to Stockholm last year to catch their show and I stock up on merch that day haha. Dude I really wanted to see an interview of you and niklas in the future as I love your interviewing style and I'm pretty sure that would have been a good one but I guess after this that's not happening. Thanks for the good comment. Yeah, separate the artist from the music IMO. Like said, I can enjoy music of Shining and some other bands with dubious people in the bands, but I can still laugh at them, too. And you’re right about those bm personalities, you mentioned.
I think media non-sense and begging ridiculed them beyond understanding. And yeah, failing to fulfill orders to fans is a big NO. But if you don’t pay bills, that happens. Anyway, I still hope I can interview these guys someday, but if that doesn’t happen, too bad. Que sera, sera.

I like shining as a band and would support them with going to a show and buy a shirt or a CD /LP but would not send them any money so Niklas can buy dope 🙈 it's awkward to beg to the fans for money because we are the reason why they became so big in the "scene" and we already support them enough with going to their shows and buy their merchandise! Usually it pays more to be the villain in everyone's story, including your own. The existence of this video, these comments including the one I am writing now, and the public display their drama has made are all just exposure measured in revenue from plays and streams, and more interest from even people who hate them as you can see from the number of people who weighed in with a comment just to say they never cared about Shining; they have even their detractors talking about them, reminding everyone that they exist and furthering the security of their business. As a musician, I think Niklas is ok. As a predatory capitalist machine, I think he excels.

For me black metal had always been the one music I escape with. No one over plays it no one ruins it! No ads. Little can ruin black metal for anyone who truly likes it. Why personally I don't understand how any bit of drama can exist. I know a guy exploding his own head for fun. Was cool and deserves all the praise but that's because that's something we can all be proud off. Let's just not encourage our musicians to go suicidal for popularity or recognition or else we'd probably run out fast! XD

I think he's too old to keep with that nonsense, honestly that adds to the lack of seriousness of his music. I checked the insta and honestly I don't believe a word, he's just trying to cash some. If that's true he should take that to court as mature and reasonable people do. I don't know why his followers are willing to pay for this trap he put them through, they are just as bad as him. Also through this year of pandemic I've seen a lot of bands taking advantage of the situation to cash some, not gonna name who but they're big names in the genre, which make it repulsive since it's obvious they have more that enough to survive. Maybe Niklas saw that and wanted to imitate in his style.

Honestly, although Shining made some good albums, that kind of drama is a complete deal-breaker. Sometimes, if you are a cool band that feels threatened by financial issues, the fans would go and try to support you with some merchandise. But this specific case is just as you say: "We are fucking evil, we are your enemy. *Fuckers have stolen from us, giving the singer fatal cancer*. Now, please give some coins" This crossed a line from cool to childish shit.

I've been a fan of Shining since the early years, and have even had the pleasure of interviewing the man himself. Having been in the scene now for most of my life as of recent I too have been on contact with people who know of this issue and more. And needless to say the individual who you speak of is in much more trouble than just no t-shirts being printed and so on.

Shining is a one of my favorite bands, but the ending of that announcement was at least strange.

Well make your own shirts. Loads of people figure it out. It's been lockdown in most countries. You could've found out how to print your own shirts by then, surely!!!! Sounds like a scam to pay for some whizz!

@@RautaMetal They have to stop spending money on the high life. Because they are a good band. They sound amazing. I've seen shining in concert, so, I know they can raise the funds through other sources but make their own tshirts and learn to do it. It's a bit silly how, Sweden never went on lockdown because they would have picked up skills.
