      Siddiq was born in Houston. After his parents' separation, Siddiq and his siblings were raised by their single mother, living for a time in the projects. He and his siblings also went on to live with other family members. Siddiq started selling drugs around the age of 14 and was imprisoned at the age of 19 for trafficking in cocaine. He served 6 years of a 15 year sentence in the Ruben M. Torres Unit in Hondo, Texas. source: wikipedia

      Having been through some of that myself, it was where my thoughts went too. It's like there is an unspoken directive in the US prison system to do so much more harm than just take away your time and freedom for whatever your term is. No, the experience must also be full of soul crushing, dehumanizing, demoralizing treatment that it's hard to come out of it and still be a human being on the other side. Yet someone that's never been that close to that world would think they deserved it for what crime they were accused of. All I can say is you don't know what you're talking about.

    • @MRony
      @MRony 2 года назад +4

      You lose your autonomy and self respect in prison. It's supposed to serve as a deterrent to crime. Which would be all great if they showed videos of this kind of humiliation to young first time offenders before they end up in prison.
      I'm fine with dehumanizing criminals. That's the payment for their crimes. But if it is meant as deterrent, then it should be clear to civil society that crime equals this. Prison culture is brushed under the rug because they don't want us to know. So they can keep feeding the prison industry.

      @@MRony you’re FINE with dehumanizing criminals? Living people with their own struggles who are maybe behind bars for having to resort to crime after being down on their luck or maybe even incarcerated for a crime they didn’t commit? Don’t you think instead of dehumanizing them as a deterrent to crime we should address the issues that lead them and others like them to get into crime so that it never happens in the first place? Hell the guy in this video went to prison for selling drugs when he was 19.

    • @MRony
      @MRony 2 года назад +10

      @@aegeon5650 not a zero sum game. The job of the judicial system is to make those determinations. But once in prison, you lose autonomy and respect for the individual. We definitely have to tackle the social issues that lead to crime. But at the end of the day, criminals make the choice to commit crimes, and then have to pay the price.
      Like this gentleman said, there is a difference between jail and prison. And there are actually a few in between. There are detention centers, rehabilitation centers, correction centers. Etc.

I promise you I start swinging around, kicking my feet, farting and everything if I have to tell you about that. I was a correctional officer in a maximum security penitentiary for 5 years . Prison rules actually make more sense then free world rules. I was standing in line at taco bell it was the lunch rush but everyone was patiently going through the rope maze. Just as I got to the counter this woman walks in and cuts in front of me and starts placing her order. I looked at her and said THE LINE STARTS BACK THERE !!! . She looked at me and said very haughtily WELL I HAVE CHILDREN !!!! my mind was still in prison mode so I had to stop myself from saying BITCH YOU BETTER MEET ME ON THE REC YARD !!!!! . You can't pull crap like that in prison.

    Man, the fact that this is comedy is horrifying to me. How is it that we allow people to be treated this way? The guards can just take an inmate and commit physical violence upon them for simply trying to retain a slight shred of dignity? Everything about that story is a condemnation of our culture and country. If you think we live in an advanced society that is humane and decent, go and learn about how we allow our fellow people to be treated in prison. We should all be screaming in the streets about it every day.

      That's the thing about prison a lot of Liberties are taken away it's not supposed to be pleasant it's supposed to be a punishment. Even though prison conditions can be horrible you still have a roof over your head food to eat and in most cases entertainment. And these are people who have broken the law a homeless person doesn't have shelter or food and and the only thing they are guilty of is being poor why do you think a lot of people on the street end up purposely committing crime so they will go back to prison because the life there is better than on the street

    It doesn't have to be like this,... it's the officers involved and their idea that they need to punish, and.....a system where an accusation is tantamount to conviction - there is no justice in the courts if you can't afford to buy your way out.

These are places filled with some of the worst society has to offer. And many of them are on top of the pecking order. People act like prison isn't filled with Chomos,Rapists,active gang members and straight killers lmao. How dense can people get.

      It's designed to break a person's spirit and force them to comply with officers orders/directives. Especially since it could be 1 officer to a couple hundred inmates at any given time. The officers are outnumbered so gotta maintain control however you can.

      For modern western society: Judeo-Christian philosophy. Retribution and vengeance for a transgression, meeted out by an authority figure who supposedly has dispensation from a diety. Historcally, most western societies have adopted this system since tribal times. Check out the Biblical books of Genisis, and Exodus.
