The OD Glove is EHX' answer to the Fulltone OCD except that it has true bypass and internally switchable 18V rails. The OCD is not true bypass (not necessarily a bad thing, but it's different) and it only operates at 18V when you plug it into an 18V power supply whereas the EHX OD Glove has internally switchable "boosted" rails. The Soul Food has an internally switchable buffer/true bypass, but it always runs at 18V internally, like the Klon that it's a Klone of. The Crayon is EHX' answer to the Xotic BB Preamp...sort of. It has a SIMILAR circuit, but uses different components and different values for the components. So it really is a unique design, but it was inspired by other "four knob" overdrives, especially the Xotic BB Preamp. Great video.
I think the Glove is closer to a Marshall Guv'nor, but I could be wrong. the 9/18 V switch inside doesn't affect the power suppy, right? Meaning can we still run 9V power to it externally? Regardless, I'm buying one soon. Also, Gabriel, aren't you an admin in our EXH effects pedals group on fb?
@@DarthEcoli You can ONLY run it on 9V battery or 9V power supply. It uses an internal switch to select the internal voltage. To run the Fulltone OCD at 18V, you need to connect it to an 18V power supply. Running at 18V gives you more headroom meaning that it takes more volume out of your guitar to start breaking up. Running at 9V makes the amount of distortion more sensitive to the volume of your guitar - both the volume control and how hard you hit it. Running at 18V makes the amount of distortion less sensitive to the volume of your guitar. You might want to make it less sensitive (more headroom) if you're running hot pickups or active electronics.
Yeah, I have never been a huge fan of TS and this only fortified that. I liked the Hot Tubes the most. From mild boost/OD to almost fuzz-like tones. Might be the most versatile out of this bunch if you ask me.
@David Davidson the EHX Hot Wax combines the hot tubes and crayon circuits, can use either or both simultaneously and it has a blend knob for adding in your dry signal too!
I left my Hot Tubes on overnight and it bricked. I've been debating whether to get another or try something new. This video sealed it. I'm getting another one.
Yeah, it was the best I thought. Most character, most actual boost. I've been looking for something to push my rig into overdrive, hopefully at below paint removal volumes. I play an es-335 into a vintage 50s magnatone 213a. It has great natural overdrive but you gotta play louder than my apartment life can handle to hear it unfortunately.
It really does have that low mid thickness. I'm watching this comparison because I just turned onto the EHX HotWax. It really is a monster. And I think it is even better for bass. I'm trying not to pull the trigger right this minute, it's freaking HOT!
They make an dual OD with the hot tube and the crayon ! Even with a blend knob, so it can be interesting to preserve some clean signal from lower tuning GT or Bass :D
East River drive does a good TS job for what I hear, pretty much like the hot tubes too, but the crayon is the real winner for me, so much more clarity, pretty nice pedal.
