    I can't deal with the "noise floor" of the mimeophon :/

    Great video!
    I am in love with the Starlab.
    You can literally run a fart sound through this and make it sound like angels are singing.
    Initially the price seemed a bit much, but I was so impressed with the demos of Strymon products that I decided to get it anway.
    The problem with these modules is that I tend to zone out with all the beautiful sounds that are coming through the headphones.

      I agree! Isnt getting lost in the sounds part of the beauty of modular?

  • @mikenoface

    I'm thinking about moving my Magneto and acquiring a Starlab, and just putting those two modules in their own effects rack. They do take up a ton of space, but sound great.

    I want one. But then again I want every module. I agree about the mimeophone I think it may be my favourite module.

      Its hard to beat Mimeophon! But I will say that Im using Starlab whenever I need clean\more "commercial" tracks. It feels like a bridge from the craziness that modular can be to in the box productions.

      @@joshk2181 I disagree. Pretty much every time I use it I get different results. It’s definitely not the most immediate (unless you use randomize), but if you spend some time exploring it can be super rewarding.

    Noticeably colder sound as soon as you ran dry signal through Mimeophone. I’ve noticed this in my rack too. I love what Mineophone can do, but it just doesn’t sound very warm.

  • @williamaugustus3296
    @williamaugustus3296 Год назад

    The Mimeophon is cool, but a little too zero to 60 for me. After a while everything I got out of it started to sound/feel the same. I prefer to patch my way into craziness. Mimeophon just goes there immediately. It's a little lack-luster for standard Delay use/sounds. As stated, it's little fiddly and it does have a higher noise floor. I love the Magneto. It sounds amazing and it's deeper than this video gets into, with the ability to loop or act as a voice. If you've never used a multi tap delay, it basically allows you to achieve different rhythmic results. Starlab is amazing too! The Karplus Strong sounds are more convincing/natural sounding than Rings. Starlab is the most versatile, seamlessly transitioning through 5 different effects, flanger, chorus, delay, reverb and karplus strong. If I had to pick one, it would be Starlab, but I'd be bummed giving up the Magneto.

    I eyed a mimeophon, but now decided I am going for a good old 4MS "Dual Looping Delay" for perfect rythmic playability.

    • @kaawofficial
      @kaawofficial  2 года назад

      I haven’t used the dual looping delay yet, but you can’t go wrong with 4MS!

      DLD is a solid delay unit. It doesn't really have a "character" of its own, which is nice for some things. It just sort of becomes an extension of whatever instrument you're feeding into it. I have it on my list to re-purchase as I stupidly sold it a couple years back. :(

    • @stephanmobius1380
      @stephanmobius1380 Год назад +2

      @@davidebaru7067 After a few months a got both. Take the mimeophone, it's more a playful effect for exploring. Or take the DLD if you need layering and looper more. I am not going to sell the mimeophone, it's a keeper, but so is the DLD.

    I have the Night Sky and found it's reverb quality to be more grainy than Big Sky, and generally less sweet and silky smooth. In your comparison here, Star Lab sounds rather metallic, but it's hard to tell how much of that is due to the voice being BIA. The Night Sky has always felt like it wanted to be a synth module, so the evolution makes sense. And considering the increased price of Star Lab vs Night Sky, perhaps they've improved the processing power and hence reverb fidelity. Have you had a chance to compare the verb to a top tier reverb pedal?

    . you can't go wrong with strymon. they brought 2 tremendous modules to the game. but I would die for magneto and should i quitt modular for goods, i would frame that module right beside the morphagene ( those are responsible for my heavy addiction ) and hang them on my wall. the problem is i also want the mimeophon soooo bad. i was close to get the starlab, but decided to get the desmodus versio. its cheaper and does the job as well. i also love my h9 max pedal for reverb stuff! and i use my erbe verb for experminetal stuff.

    I had a Nightsky, which I LOVED for guitar, but I do more synth stuff, and the way Nightsky worked as a pedal with a synth, it just felt like it had the one trick of making planetarium music, otherwise it was a super expensive reverb pedal when dialed back into normal reverb territory. Starlab by contrast with all its patch points, and pluck section is much more usable and I love it in my rack. Use it almost every patch. Nice video!
