This happens in a narrow set of circumstances. It only works because he won't move since he's on a machine gun nest. Ordinarily they reposition themselves and the player doesn't notice. I won't stand for cherry picking popularized by Marphy Black. You have to go out of your way to find this bug holding a particularly small object in these extremely specific instances.
I didn't even know this was a known bug, I thought i was being clever by bringing mobile cover. Thought it would absorb shots, but turns out it just prevents shooting! Thank you for the context, that makes a lot of sense. I suspected something similar but good to have confirmation
@@suji-gm Most of the time it works fine as intended holding larger objects or fragile ones. It's only tiny things facing machine gun nests where there's an oversight..
@@cimroa So what you're saying is that hypothetically, if we were to replace the HEV suit with a barrel surrounding Mr. Freeman's head and torso (with holes cut for the eyes and limbs, of course) he would be functionally immortal?
@concerningindividual629 Technically, using Source logic, (non-explosive) barrels _are_ completely indestructible and cannot be penetrated by bullets. So a barrel suit would unironically be better protection using game logic.
I think the intended gameplay is to use the conveniently placed covers to run from one to the next. That's what i did when i played for the first time.

why did that fucking combine keep disappearing
Randomly floating oildrum are a completely casual thing on the combine home world
That's an unmodified human.
This still works in the new update?
This was from a few days ago, so yeah lol
Yeah I just did it in that section yesterday
Yep, works for any machine gun nest too.
Hide and seek champion! If I can't see you, you can't see me!
As funny as this is, I was kinda hoping to see it fixed in the patch notes.
This is intentional behavior. The combine in HL2 are programmed to only shoot at the you if you have a clear line of sight to them.

@@concerningindividual Why do you think he's not wearing the helmet? They gotta balance the game somehow.

I love intentional game design
Im glad that this is still works😄😄
You can do this with a tiny soda can too
I thought this was the intended way to do this. Is it actually a bug?
it is intended, people are just enjoying the combine not having object permanence
