It is a well-known fact that Elvis Presley was a Christian and sang both secular and Christian music. He often closed his regular show and met with the Imperials and the other Christian singers to sing through the early morning hours. He made many gospel recordings and I happen to own a lot of them. One can't look inside the heart of another and read his worship of God. Guy Penrod has reached millions of people with his song. I am one of those. At my age, I have pretty much heard it all and yet this man has touched my heart in a special way. I listen to his music every day of my life and receive a blessing, a spiritual renewal that only the love of God can provide.

For all of you that are critical of Guy Penrod I want you to think about the Gaithers as well as Roger Breland and TRUTH. As a child I listened to them. TRUTH had trumpets, guitars, and drums and many of my church going family said that they were too secular even though the lyrics were Christian. Many of you listen to Gospel Music by the GVB that my family would have thought was sacrilege and call it great. There is no difference between them and what Guy is doing now. I suggest that all of you that think Guy is on the wrong path go listen to Mark Lowry do his Recovering Fundamentalist comedy skit. Once all of the gentiles were the outcasts until God opened the doors to us and now we, the once "unwelcome guests", seem to be the ones most willing to stand at the doors to block a different group of "unwelcome guests" who want to feast at the table of his bounteous love. God is the father of us all. Jesus reached out to the outcast. I think Guy is to be admired for wanting to reach the souls of the unbeliever instead of "preaching to the choir" by only reaching those who are believers.
Jesus did not come to call the the righteous but sinners to repentance. He came to earth to show love to the loveless. He went into the highways and byways to seek out sinners because He loves all of them. He did not die for just the the people who thought they are righteous but sinners also. Praise the Lord.

styles of music are not secular or sacred. if your church only sings hymns a cappella, then bless that church. but music evolves but as long as the lyrics are geared toward worshipping the Lord, that's all that matters. the evolution of music is what brings in the next generation of singers, musicians and worshippers to God. that's truly all that matters.

1 John 2:15, pretty much says it all. I'm sure some will become angry with this. That's usually what happens. But, I'm going to ask you to truly search the scriptures and pray on it. Ask yourself if I can't give up this worldly music (not all music) for Christ then do I truely love Christ.

Repentance, baptism in His Name, and the gift of the Holy Spirit are how we apply this to ourselves.
Repentance = death to self.
Immersion in water in His Name = burial with Christ.
Gift of the Holy Spirit = new life.
Read and obey Acts 2:38 if you want to be saved.

I wish well for you Guy. But, I respectfully disagree with the position that there's no difference between Christian & non-Christian music (not lyrics but music). There's clearly a difference. The term Rock -n-Roll was termed from an act of fornication & by the worlds standards is a type of rebellion. A Christian should not be using worldly music. Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
no one can serve 2 masters... you either love 1 an hate the other. Christian music and worldly music are like light and darkness. be careful!

What makes "worldly" music? Anything that goes against scripture. I have seen music by Johnny Cash, George Strait, Needtobreathe, Daughtry and others be used for Gods Glory. If you aim music only for believers then how are you being salt and light? You must as Guy says Sow truth into the marketplace.
So do you only talk about Jesus in all of your conversations with other people? if you ever spend time talking about vacation, a beloved family member, or something hard that happened during your day - those are all secular topics and you are out of line. Of course you can be a Christian and sing secular music. Each song must be judged on its own merit. Not all secular songs are sinful. We'd be better off if all secular music singers WERE Christians.
