Yes! Grab a piece of scrap metal and some solder. This is a great way to use up stray solder that you can’t identify. Ball up the solder and practice picking it up and “dropping it off” on a piece. You can add more scrap and make practice forms that are more difficult. Use some copper and you’ll see how the angle of your flame makes the solder move away from the area you want it when you aren’t having that awareness. Then just send this practice metal to the refiner. Cheap ways to improve your skills.

When you ‘pre ball’ your solder, do you flux it first?
