- Here's Eddie Cooper and Jake Gyllenhaal's performance of "Sudden Changes / Feed Me (Get It)" during the July 1st performance of Encores! Off-Center's 2015 concert production of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken's "Little Shop of Horrors." This video also features the Taran Killam as Orin and Ellen Greene as Audrey.
This concert production was directed by Dick Scanlan, choreographed by Patricia Wilcox, and featured musical direction by Chris Fenwick.
This video is a combination of three separate recordings. Due to the recent nature of this production, only a selection of songs and clips will be uploaded.
He lets out that perfect Levi Stubbs laugh and everyone simultaneously realizes it's going to be awesome.
Never thought of Jake Gyllenhaal playing Seymore, but now that I have seen it. HOLY HELL HE IS A PERFECT CHOICE! He just kills it at the role!
He is legit one of those actors I think has crossed the place of being able to do it all.
No he is not!!!
he's so cute:)
*wildly waves around arms and legs* "dOeS tHiS LoOk iNaNimaTE tO YoU pUnK?!"
I say it be awesome if he kicked the stand down as he said "punk"!
I mean it just felt like a good button moment(like with Hamilton dropping a stack of papers to the ground after "Sit Down John, you FAT MOTHER______"), but it's still a great performance of that line, I agree!
Well he can't move fully yet. He hasn't been fed enough at this point. It's only after he eats Orin and Mushnik that he moves out of the pot.
Levi Stubbs would be proud of that amazing Audrey II voice.
RIP Levi Stubbs
Yeah. Luckily, he's still smiling at the folks who do the various productions worldwide from above
Exactly
Levi Stubbs would have been so proud
"OH BOY, oh boy..." *can't remember line, flipping through script* "ohhhh booy."
THAT GROWL ON "CRAVE" HOLY DAMN YES
3:43
Wow I really wish there was a cast recording
Same
actually there is on spotify, that's how I got here, but I don't think its the same cast
Few people could upstage Jake Gyllenhaal as thoroughly and completely as Eddie Cooper.
OK this is absolutely the best Audrey II other than Levi Stubbs that I've ever heard. Jake was surprisingly good too, this was a really good cast overall
1:03 oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh b o y
It's both weird and kinda cool to see an actual guy as Twoey! As ridiculous as the shoestring budget is in this, it's kinda neat to see it all stripped down like this.
it's a concert not exactly a show
Sure, but I've seen some pretty upscale concerts!
AlwaysGonnaSing But for a reunion, the were some off Broadway puppet s shown I was glad to see them
It's great to see the actor playing Twoey. When you can hear his voice and watch the expressions on the actor's face the performance is more complete.
Ga
that is litaraly the best Audrey 2 besides the movie one
its the same guy from the movie :)
newjourney7 No it isn't. Movie was done by Levi Stubbs. This is Edie Cooper. Easy mistake tho, they sound pretty damn similar.
yeah I realized unfortunately after i wrote the comment. so sad :(
Yeah, but it's so weird seeing Audrey II as a human. I can't even tell if it's how Seymour sees Twoey in his mind.
He be cool for the remake that there are planning the Guy playing Audrey 2
Eddie Cooper is everything. Give him more parts. GOOD parts.
jake is an unbelievable singer
god the talent in this is impeccable and brilliant but the way he’s just holding the little plant is having me SENT
oh man he is GOOOOD. He got that super villain laugh and everything! I played the plant in a production many years ago. Honestly this song was the most difficult for me. I kept getting tongue tied on the line "you know the kind of eats, the kind of red hot sweets, the kind of sticky licky treats I crave" That line damn near killed me! And the special effect got a curtain call before I did. I walked out and the audience was like "who TF is that?" Good times....
i played the dentist and the plant, and when people read the program and saw my name for the plant people didn't recognize my voice at all LOL
@@lmelime dang you got both???? I’m sure you probably had pretty great chemistry with Seymour by the end of it haha
@@coastercraziness of course, he's one of my best friends lol
@@lmelime oh that makes it even better. I’m doing Seymour (we’re doing it next fall), our Orin is someone I’m really good friends with and our Audrey 2 is someone I’m also close with. Any words of advice to make working with someone that’s not on stage easier?
@@coastercraziness i mean just really focus on being able to cooperate with your director and stage crew, while simultaneously being able to retain the character you're playing. relationship-wise, I just focused on making small talk and stuff when appropriate and it makes it a lot more comfortable on stage
It’s criminal that there’s no album with this cast.
Eddie’s getting a lot of well-deserved praise, but this is my favorite performance of Seymour’s part of this song.
His last "So go get it" - amazing.
These two would be PERFECT for the new movie. Why didn’t they cast them??? Jake would be their star name, is a fun actor, is great for the role and interprets the character in a fun way. Eddie is comparable to some of the greatest Audrey II’s (including Levi Stubbs), plus he brings a Disney villain vibe to the role (which I am a sucker for).
They're doing a new movie???
@Greg Elchert well, I'm absolutely not happy on any of that casting but thanks for letting me know! Haha.
@Greg Elchert Bad news: the remake's been cancelled.
I was already in love with Jake, but watching this performance is making my heart explode. Why is he so sweet and talented?
Eddie cooper is fantastic as the plant in this clip. I loved how he was having fun with it, and his villain laugh is fantastic.
I wish these was more songs of Eddie singing, especially as Audery 2, his voice is amazing :'(
Kieran Campire if I remember correctly he was a last minute replacement for his father who was supposed to do it and got cast in a full production on tour so..
6:35 THAT WAS SO RAW HOLY SHIT
A little disconcerting to see a man instead of a huge plant..but..I like!.
+Chris Carnicelli my all-girls summer camp did a production of LSOH and they had less than half a shoe-string budget. Their Twoey was just the girl sitting in a cardboard box with fake ivy wrapped around her and green plant slathered on her face. But she stole the show.
I actually like seeing that guy
This may be one of my favorite live renditions
@@janeyrevanescence12 that's similar to what I'm doing in my production. The Twoey actress will be on a perch above the plant in plain sight while the puppeteer is hidden
I come back to this set of videos every single year now, especially since "Little Shop" is our kick off to Halloween at my house every 23rd day on the month of September. Never does this ever get old, Bravo!
Lumberjack Seymour makes my day
You mean mysterio
@@adrianarias986 no
just *LUMBERJACK SEYMOUR*
Yes yummy😍
woop didn't know jake gyllenhaal could sing!!!
THIS GUY IS SO GOOD
That was actually better than I thought...but Ramona Keller (my favorite soprano) stole that part of the show with those clear pingy high notes.
wow, that was astonishing! would've been awesome to hear it live..
very cool how they did audrey ii in this version. as much as i love puppetry, having an actor was just super cool to see. plus he's good at this role!
1:03 me when I get my test back
Wow--Eddie is amazing as hell!
That voice is good he nailed it with Audrey’s voice
Did anyone else know that the Audrey in this is Ellen Greene, the original Audrey from the movie! OMG, I am so happy right now, no one can top Ellen as Audrey.
Oh wow he's so good as the plant amazing
Damn Mysterio has some pipes
EDDIE IS AH-MAZING!!!
The soprano FELT it that day..! 😄
JAKES LITTLE JUMP UP AND DOWN UGH MY HEART
I’m seeing Jake Gyllenhaal in London in August I’m seeing Sunday in the Park with George I’m soooo excited he’s my all time fave actor and celebrity crush I’m 6 rows from the front I can’t wait.
and since when mysterio sings
Best Audrey2 since Levi Stubbs
Eddie would be a great Audrey 2 for the remake. It’s either him or Michael Wooley.
For me, I'd love to hear Mark Hamill voice Audrey II.
Ty Sargent It would be interesting but the deep voice of a large black man is preferable
Like CeeLo Green?
Anthony Hamilton is who you want.
How about Anthony Anderson or Rebeun Studdard as Audrey 2
my favorite Audrey 2
This was good !!!
so this is what Quentin Blake did before he had to work for Tony Stark huh
Beck
Beck. Quentin Blake is an illustrator of children’s books
OH boy, oh boyyy *casually forgets lie* OOOOOHHH BOOOYYYY
It is kind of weird to see Audrey II be completely human but it works. He does a great job!
What a fucking unit this man is
goosebumps 😍
My stupid ass thought that was Stanley from The Office the first time I watched this. More to the point, absolute BANGER of a fucking performance.
This guy should voice the next Audrey II in the Little Shop reboot.
Ikr same
He should totally convince them and Lady Gaga being audrey would be amazing they are wanting her to play it
It's so weird seeing a human Audrey II in a play.
CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP that my applause awsome
Lyrics:
Feed me
Feed me
Feed me
Feed me, Seymour.
Feed me all night long.
"That's right, boy!"
You can do it...
Feed me, Seymour.
Feed me all night long...
'Cause if you feed me, Seymour,
I can grow up, big and strong.
Would you like a Cadillac car?
Or a guest-shot on Jack Paar?
How about a date with Hedy Lamarr...
You gonna git it.
How'd ya like to be a big wheel?
Dining out, for every meal.
I'm the plant can make it all real.
You're gonna git it.
Hey, I'm your genie.
I'm your friend.
I'm your willin' slave...
Take a chance, feed me, yeah.
You know the kinda eats,
The kinda ret-hot treats,
The kinda sticky licky, sweets I crave...
Ow! Come on, Seymour,
Don't be a putz!
Trust me and your life will surely
Rival King Tut's.
Show a little initiative, boy,
Work up some guts,
And you'll git it.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I have so... so many strong... reservations.
Should I go... and perform... mutilations?
Think about a room at the Ritz,
Wrapped in velvet, covered in glitz.
A little nookie gonna clean up those zits,
And you'll git it... uh huh...
Gee I'd like a Harley machine.
Tooling around like I was James Dean.
Makin' all the guys on the corner turn green!
So, go git it! Woo woo woo!
If you wanna be profound...
If you really gotta justify...
Take a breath and look around...
A lot of folks deserve to die...
Stupid woman! Christ, what a freakin' scatterbrain!
I'm sorry, doctor! I'm sorry doctor!
If you want a rationale,
It isn't very hard to see.
No, No, No...
Stop and think it over, pal.
The guy sure looks like plant food to me!
The guy sure looks like plant food to me!
The guy sure looks like plant food to me...!
He's so nasty treatin' her rough!
Smackin' her around, and always talkin' so tough!
You need blood and he's got more than enough!
I need blood and he's got more than enough!
You/I need blood and he's got more than enough!
So Go Git it
Power of acting
you should upload the whole show
It is on RUclips, in different videos
This guy is amazing ! Am I the only one who thinks Wayne Brady would make a decent Audrey 2 ?
Rueben Studdard from American idol would be perfect
It's like if Hollywood actors were in a high-school play.
That Audrey II voice, oh yeah.
5:53 😥😘🥰😍 awww.
maybe you should upload the whole thing?
Wow if you close your eyes ir trunk ur phone over and just listen to the song it sounds exactly like the movie Version. I didnt see a human Audrey 2 I seen the plant n seen Semore. Simply amazing!!!
Even Mysterio wants a place in broadway.
Man can Jake sing or can Jake SING
2:22 to 2:24 what's that vocal technique called. The other Audrey's used it as well
A slide, I believe
I kinda want Taran Killam to treat me like that.
❤️😍❤️
Cool
1:01 LOL
..he lost his place in his script so he said “oh boy” multiple times while he was finding it........
my favorite audrey II performance aside from levi stubbs it’s SO good
He actually hit her!!
love this. Jake G is pretty awesome as Seymore. So understated. Love the 'theatre' moment of forgetting his lines. Is this a rehearsal??? does anyone know the story behind the scripts on stage? There is an audience so is confusing.
From what I’ve heard, the cast had very little time to rehearse. It’s quite obvious during CLOSED FOR RENOVATION. As some of them forget their lines. But it’s quite common to have the use of scripts during Concert performances :)
Do they have their scripts on stage?
Aw Audrey 2 is cute
I’m pretty sure Orin actually hits her
He does
Can someone tell me if this version is out on DVD or something? Please.
I don't think so but I hope someone proves me wrong and comments a source
MY M A N YE S
Searcher Clade?
Did jake sing “feed me all night long p” along with him in the first few seconds of the Song?
HOLY SHIT! Did Ellen Greene actually get smacked!
in my production our audrey was fake-slapped, I'm guessing it was just good acting here too!
@@malumute I was pretty convincing
You all were fooled into thinking this was real. It's a hologram!
What was this for is this the original plant voice why can we see him
@Joseph Leanos If we're talking the original Corman film, the voice of Audrey Jr was supplied by the screenwriter Charles B. Griffith. For the stage musical, the original voice for Audrey Two was Ron Taylor. Stubbs voiced the plant in the 1986 film
What does Ellen (Audrey) drop?
+Michael Ramirez An earring I think?
+Shannon Wynne Looks like it. Thanks!
That plant's smaller than I expected. Like Pod 2 small. Not necessarily bad, just not what I expected.
That's what she said
"the girl sure looks like plant food to me" ???
+Mary DelVecchio "the jerk sure looks like plant food to me"
Of course they get the actor who played Oogie Boogie to play Audrey II
Nope. This is Eddie Cooper, son if Tony winner Chuck Cooper. Chuck was originally supposed to do the concert, but had a conflict.
Oogie Boogie was played by Ken Page.
I love daddy jake ooh yes sing to me
Luke Wilkes what the actual fuck
The only thing I don’t like is he didn’t have the accent for Seymour but other than that he was great!
Oh my god, they completely screwed up at 6:14 and sang "the girl sure looks like plant food to me!" They realized the mistake they made and kept going....
no they didn’t... they said guy
I think Eddie actually says “girl” the first few times in character! He sings “guy” loudly with Seymour when he realizes they’re thinking of killing different people lol
I still can't get past the whole scripts on stage thing. I get that it's a concert, not a stage play, but I would appreciate it if they at least took the time to learn the lyrics.
I watched this video and timed how long each actor used their script. In the span of 6 minutes and 45 seconds, Jake held his script for about a 1 minute and 4 seconds, and actually only used (read it) it for about 18 seconds, 8 seconds of which was spent flipping through the script to find their place (as no one had used it in a good amount of time), only for the scene before the song. Eddie, Ellen, and Taran, meanwhile, never used any. I see where you're coming from, but I think them not knowing the lyrics / lines is almost a non issue.
They had six days of rehearsal and four performances over two days; not a lot of time to prep, particularly if you have a schedule like Mr Gyllenhaal's. It's completely standard practice to have performers on the book at concerts.
It’s also contractual. It’s legally only a concert if they’re using scripts.
Understandable. But, staged readings are typical.
