- Here's Ellen Greene and Jake Gyllenhaal's performance of the iconic "Suddenly, Seymour" during the July 1st performance of Encores! Off-Center's 2015 concert production of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken's "Little Shop of Horrors." This video also features Tracy Nicole Chapman as Chiffon, Marva Hicks as Crystal, and Ramona Keller as Ronnette.
This concert production was directed by Dick Scanlan, choreographed by Patricia Wilcox, and featured musical direction by Chris Fenwick.
This video is a combination of three separate recordings. Due to the recent nature of this production, only a selection of songs and clips will be uploaded.

katnissandpeeta Seymour is a pretty easy character to sing as. I can't see him playing Valjean in Les Mis or The Phantom. He can sing, but only just. His voice trembles quite a bit when hitting certain notes. If it wasn't for his characterisation, I doubt he would even be at level.
Because Ellen Greene is TIMELESS. Whether Seymour is played by Lee Wilkof, Rick Moranis or Jake Gyllenhaal...ONLY Ellen Greene can be Audrey.

Wow, Ellen Green clearly knows how to take care of her voice. It's aged a little since she started, but not _nearly_ as much as time has gone by. I was surprised Gyllenhaal could sing. He's got a nice voice.
We were in the audience at the live performance. Ellen Greene is a genuine wonder. Some performers just cannot be outdone. Her Audrey. Jennifer Holiday’s And I Am Telling You. Patti Lupone’s Don’t Cry For and Argentina. That’s the stuff legends are made of.
I've never been jealous of Jake for his good looks, his talent, his fame, or his fortune, but I sure am jealous that he got to perform this song with Ellen Greene.
I was lucky enough to see this in person. I have never been to a show that was interrupted by standing ovations so many times. The audience was giving Ellen Greene every ounce of love and respect she deserved. It was pure joy

The power of this song is that Audrey has had to hide her true self for so long, and when seymour shows her kindness, her real (voice) breaks out. I'm convinced ONLY Ellen Greene can play this character and pull this song off like that 😍

Anthony Pecoraro True, but Audrey II is more than a man eating plant. Basically, he has ALMOST the same powers as Mysterio. He is manipulative, he can force others to do his dirty work and bend some of reality by his will power. He also can release green fog that not only stuns victims, but takes control of them, from his pod. Mysterio would have trouble fighting him. Audrey II could get him to get literally INSIDE of his mouth just by saying that he could kill Spider-Man.
Jester Joseph you do realize that mysterio has the same powers so he can bend that plant to his will. Plus he has literally hundreds if not thousands of drones at his command. Drones that could easily blow up a bus.

Also, considering after he Movie Peter has the glasses back, no. He doesn’t have the use of the drones. So, you were saying?

I had no bloody idea Jake Gyllenhaal could sing let alone encompass one of my favourite characters from one of my favourite movies growing up! And not just that sorcery, how in Jakes green apples does Ellen Green look and sound exactly like she did 36 years ago? This was probably one of the most magical videos I’ve seen in years! Saw Ellen in Cleveland touring before the movie....so amazing. We've seen so few times a character so well rounded, so truly understood....amazing Ellen. And to Jake, beautiful performance and so generous as an actor. I will watch this over and over....forever.....
