Excellent video with detailed extensive maintenance. Your care for the HI/Lo shut off contactor is something a lot of people overlook. I was thinking a large syringe might be an easier way to put the oil in. I was also surprised you did not soap test your fittings after the reassembly and testing as you said you had leakage before. How often do you do this program in hours? Couldn't tell by the hour meter whether it was 10.96 or 1096 hours. Just love these PC Tower compressors and your craftsmanship in building them!! Hi PJ, Thank you very much for the comment, as also for your questions! The shut off contactor or pressure switch as you already know, is a very important component of the compressor. From time to time you should be careful if all moving parts are properly lubricated, but this applies not only to the pressure switch. You should also check the filter regulator; all moving parts must be lubricated well. For the regulator should only use the grease recommended by the manufacturer! As I said in the video, compressed air has moisture and this special lubricant is made to be resistant to it. You ask how often we need to make maintenance. This is upon the use we do, from my little experience I have found that all small compressors (when I say small I mean the size of the tank and that is up to 12 liters) need general maintenance every 10-15 hours with continuous motor operation, that's why I put the clock, and since you mentioned my clock shows almost 11hrs. The problem with small tanks is that the compressed air is easily mixed with rust, oil and water from the tank, because of its small size as also of the location of the fittings. You point that I didn’t make a soap test! Yes, because the air leak was not on the fittings or on the threads of the tank. The problem was within the valve, there is a small conical spring that presses a rubber cap, this cap allows the air to come inside the tank but at the same time it prevents air to return to the motor and that rubber cap had "burned". I ask the supplier of the valve for that and he told me that is something that could happen any time. Anyway I do not know maybe low quality consumable parts! You are right; I must buy a large syringe for the oil. Glad to share Jim.

Same here I have the same compressor basically it’s the style with the pancake air tank but got a nice size refrigerator compressor motor compressor looks a little easier to get at it has a clamp all the way around so iu can clean the oil out of it easier you got a bigger tank by the looks strictly for airbrushing
To be honest, I had thought of cutting the upper part of the compressor for better access, but I was afraid that I could be damaging it. Anyway, it needs a bit more time for the maintenance but is ok. Though that I have use it for paint on a bigger scale thing than models, its size is basically for airbrushing. Cheers Jimmy

Τώρα, το δικό μου κομπρεσέρ το αγόρασα καινούργιο, ρώτησα τον πωλητή σχετικά με την ποσότητα του λαδιού αλλά δεν ήξερε να μου πει (ούτε αναφερόταν στην ταμπέλα του κατασκευαστή), οπότε μόλις το πήγα στο εργαστήρι το πρώτο που έκανα ήταν να αδειάσω το λάδι από το μοτέρ και να το μετρήσω με μεζούρα. Τώρα, αν έχεις κάποιο μοτέρ μεταχειρισμένο και θέλεις να είσαι σίγουρος για την ποσότητα του λαδιού θα σου πρότεινα να ρωτήσεις κάποιον ψυκτικό δίνοντας του βέβαια τον τύπο του μοτέρ. However I still have one question unresolved, and your assistance would be greatly appreciated. My compressor was salvaged from a refridgerator and I have no idea how to determine how much oil to put into it if I'm going to be using it as an air compressor. Is there any method that you would suggest for me to determine this?
Hi, Thanks for the comment and for the question! The quantity of oil for a fridge compressor depends upon the power of the motor, the easiest and most accurate way is to ask at your local supplier of fridge parts. Give them the type and the number of the compressor, for example(Embraco aspera NJ6226Z) and they will tell you the hp or watts of the motor and the quantity of oil. The other way is the rule of thumb, but it isn't 100% accurate. A small fridge compressor is from 1/4 to 1/3 hp these motors need from 250 to 300ml oil, a 1/2hp motor needs 450 to 500ml and a compressor that is 1hp takes close to 750ml. Now if at the time that you disconect the compressor from the fridge see, that no oil came out from the hose as the freon evaporates means that the original oil is inside the compressor? So take out the oil from the compressor and measure it, again remember this not 100% accurate!! Also check the color of the oil, if it is dark brown or dark yellow needs to be replaced with new. When you use Loxeal on the threads, are you tight all parts with a tool or it is enough by hand. For example, I see that you tighten the non return valve by hand without tools.
Hi, Thank you for asking, most of the times I use a wrench for tightening the parts as you can see on 16:43. Now as for the non return valve you saw me tighten by hand, it was because I had checked before using the thread sealant, that when I screwed all the way the valve on the tank the position of the valve was not vertical and the right position was half a turn before the end of the threads. That was the main reason for not used the wrench, the second reason was-is-that thread sealant adhesives can hold pressure and prevent leakage even if we don't tighten the threads up to end. But is important to apply the adhesive evenly to all the threads and try to screw the parts using as much of the length of the thread as we can, for best results it is also important to leave the sealant to dry following the manufacturer's instructions. It will be my pleasure; The working pressure is up to 9 bar/130psi, tank volume is 5 liters, the flow is approximately between 27 to 30 liters per minute. All fridge compressors have a thermal switch, this protects the motor from overheating. Nevertheless, it is best to work on half hour intervals (1/2 hour on, 1/2 hour off) especially with small compressors, like this one (3/8hp = 280W). Cheers Jimmy

It will be my pleasure; The working pressure is up to 9 bar/130psi, tank volume is 5 liters, the flow is approximately between 27 to 30 liters per minute. Δημήτρη τα βίντεο σου με την κατασκευή και συντήρηση είναι άψογα. Πόσο περίπου κοστίζει μια τέτοια κατασκευή;
Γιάννη σε ευχαριστώ πολύ για το σχόλιο, το εκτιμώ! Ζητώ συγγνώμη για τη όποια καθυστέρηση στην απάντηση.
Τώρα όσο για το κόστος κατασκευής εξαρτάτε από το μέγεθος του αεροσυμπιεστή και την ποιότητα τον εξαρτημάτων που θα χρησιμοποιήσεις. Σε γενικές γραμμές ισχύει το εξής, ένας μικρός αεροσυμπιεστής (6 λίτρα)θα βγει περίπου στα 2/3 του κόστους με έναν που θα είναι 24 λίτρα - μιλώ για καινούργιο αεροφυλάκιο, όχι για πατέντες του τύπου φιάλη φρέον, πυροσβεστήρα η φιάλη γκαζιού και για ποιοτικά εξαρτήματα.
Οι παρακάτω τιμές είναι κατά προσέγγιση (από παλαιότερη έρευνα αγοράς), αλλά θα σου δώσουν ένα μέγεθος κόστους:
Αεροφυλάκιο 6 λίτρα ≤ 100€
Συμπιεστής 3/8Hp (280W) ≤ 60€ ποιοτικός Κινέζικος

Is it true what they say about these a hour on and a hour off cause I know the compressor gets hot
All fridge compressors have a thermal switch, this protects the motor from overheating. Nevertheless, it is best to work on half hour intervals (1/2 hour on, 1/2 hour off) especially with small compressors, like this one (3/8hp = 280W).

Misleading title! It wasn't silent..I heard noises!! Seriously though, why do people make videos and then NOT TALK in them??? That's the whole point of a video, so we can hear you!!

Because the motor is actually a fridge compressor. And fridge compressors are known that during their operation doesn't produce high levels of noise.
