    Goa, India and Portugal a love forever. I pray that Goa will always be a special place with a strong gentle and sweet portuguese soul. Goa, Damao and Diu will always be indo-portuguese. A perfect union of two peoples that created one of the best peoples in the world: the peolple of goa.

      I was able to see this beautiful Church during 2010 when I was able to visit Goa and stay at Madgaon and Panjim for a few days. I went to Velha Goa thrice to see the churches there especially Se Cathedral. It is a great architectural wonder of the 17th century Portuguese construction. Probably the style of construction is Gothic, Romanesque and Baroque combined in various parts of the Church. I am sad that I was not able to visit Goa again. Goa is really beautiful and people are wonderful. I was able to see a few Portuguese type houses in Madgaon. Mondovi river at Panjim is really beautiful. Velha Goa is a great nostalgia as if I am standing inside a 17th century Portuguese Goa. There are many beautiful churches remaining to be seen for me. St. Cajetan Church and a church (name not known to me) on the opposite side of Velha Goa and Mandovi river

      @@tomithomas2151 You are right. It's a wonderful place. A unique meeting place between the western world and the eastern world. And the Portuguese knew how to make a unique civilization in Goa, a multiracial and multicultural civilization. A jewel, a pearl. A land of sweetness, of mutual understanding. A unique place. One of the few places in the world where you are simultaneously in Europe and Asia, in the 16th century and its 21st century at the same time. And the people are unique. Very polite. Lots of sweets. They have the sweetness of an old Portugal. From a loving Portugal. They are of Portuguese and Indian blood, harmoniously mixed and are the guardians of the spirit of the old Portuguese aristocracy. All harmoniously brought together.

    Beautiful indeed, and Portuguese built it, but Goa was already beautiful and Portuguese are still in love with it. Having lost Goa still hurts us to this day. I visited twice and loved it of course, my uncle lived there x 3yrs. He is now 80 and still dreams about it per my aunt. Hindus & Muslim should acknowledge that Portuguese created a mesmerizing, incredibly interesting, clean and more beautiful Goa. For the time we were in Goa, it was peacefully quiet, clean, organized, although poor, but so was the mainland. Have you ever thought at the millions of Portuguese that went hungry so Portugal could keep some of its holdings? Look at it now....dirty, overun, disrespect for local customs. I wonder when real proud Goans are going to do something about it!

      Ur ancestors themselves led the inquisitions killing many Christians and Hindus in the process. Even, the Christians of Goa were unhappy during Portuguese rule. And the attack on the local language, Konkani has had a toll on it, only Hindu Konkanis take pride in it now. U should ask ur Pope to ask forgiveness frm the Christians and Hindus of Goa for the inquisitions. History can't be undone.

      Sir, what are your views on the Goan Inquisition ?

    • @TheSabugosa
      @TheSabugosa 3 года назад +3

      @@ryanfernandes6652 It was an unfortunate moment. We have to put ourselves in the 17th century way of being. Concepts of religious tolerance had not yet penetrated the mainstream of power. However, the Inquisition victimized people in India, just as it victimized in Europe. In 17th century many europeans were arrested, tortured and even killed for thinking differently or for not being believers! It wasn't Portuguese malice. It was an unfortunate moment in history. Also in India, China, Japan, intolerance prevailed. In Japan (which was never dominated by Europeans) the helpless Catholic missionaries who tried to evangelize the Japanese were all burned alive... just because they preached a religion that was not the official Japanese state religion. Those were different times. In any case, if you go to Goa, Damão and Diu, you will find a society of mixed races, demonstrating the non-racist spirit of the Portuguese, capable of dealing as equals, without racist discrimination, with any people, regardless of skin color, race or ethnicity. And this acceptance of the other, this racial non-discrimination, this ability to prioritize love and friendship is a huge distinguishing mark of the Portuguese compared to the English who dominated India by the whip, smoking, playing bridge and reading the Times at their private clubs where Indians were prohibited from entering. The Portuguese did not close the door to anyone. They opened their hearts, formed families, all without any racial prejudice.

      @@TheSabugosa Never apologize for the Inquisition as a Catholic. I'm Indian and my ancestors are from Goa. Everything that you are told about the Inquisition are lies - black legends spread by anti-Catholic Protestant heretics and Marathi Brahmin propagandists in India.
