Where's cologne! The place is literally on the map only because of it's cathedral
One of the architectural treasures of Europe.
I think it’s in Germany.
You left out the LARGEST Cathedral in Europe. The Kölner Dom in Köln, Germany.
That’s not the largest in Europe, many on this list are larger.
@@maxdavis7722 Actually it is the largest in Europe.
@@LadyDragonsblood Actually...the largest cathedral in Europe is Seville Cathedral. Please be informed before speaking on something.
@@oceans6515 At 157 m , the Kölner Dom is the tallest twin-spired church in the world, the second tallest church in Europe after Ulm Minster, and the third tallest church of any kind in the world. It is the largest Gothic church in Europe and has the second-tallest spires. The towers for its two huge spires give the cathedral the largest façade of any church in the world. (This came directly from the guide book I purchased there. Regardless, it SHOULD have been on this list!)
@@LadyDragonsblood Hun, maybe you could try googling Seville Cathedral instead of reading a guide book. Have a great day, and yes it should have been on the list!
There a lot of modern being building around the world today but nothing can compare with the stunning, marvellous and full of details from the churches architeture from Europe
Aya Sofya isn't important for its size and decoration, but its architecture. It's the first building with a dome in history, and a model for practically every church and mosque since then. It's really underestimated even by Greeks for the sake of the Parthenon, which is actually not so hard to build.
What happens with the Koekelberg Basilic Bruxelles?
Or the Cathedral from Cologne?
Or St.Pauls Cathedral London?
Or Stephanadom Vienna?
Or Cathedral Straatsburg?
I missing a lot of big churches in this video
That Portuguese basilica looks like a conference centre.
It's also very ugly.
Yes, it’s hideous.
suprised to see Liverpool Cathedral and not St. Pauls Cathedral which although over 300 years old still ranks as having one of the biggest unsupported domes in the world.
Liverpool is bigger though. The Roman Catholic cathedral there was supposed to be even bigger but was scaled back due to ww2. It’s still got it’s original crypt though which is huge.
I am amazed and blessed to see more and more people worshipping God. ruclips.net/video/EdoZMurKQJA/видео.html
largest unsupported concrete dome is the ballisca in rome..pretty incredible as it was built 2000 years ago
St Paul's fits inside the Anglican it's that big!
well you can't argue with statistics. Liverpool Anglican Cathedral is biggest in U.K. there is another Cathedral very close by, the Catholic Cathedral known as the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King. both are sperated by a short street called 'Hope Street'. both are worth a visit when in City of Liverpool.
For us Orthodox Christians, Agia Sofia will always be the heart of the Orthodox world.
Well at least you were historically accurate when you admitted that that non catholic cathedrals in England and Germany were originally Catholic!
Not all -St Paul's in London was built by Anglicans and the big cathedral in Berlin that looks like it was built by Lutherans. Many many examples of cathedrals built by Protestants but generally speaking the biggest and most opulent are Catholic as that religion sets more store on that type of thing.
St Michaels in Hamburg was built after the European Reformation. First built around the mid 17th century by Protestants .
Again, it is sense of faith we wish the very best to home our Lord. Poor parishioners with monetary help from their bishop, have the same sentiment, their own homes may be most simple, but as they contributed to the beauty of their church building, they are proud and share in its beauty and honor of their Lord.
@@jurgentreue1200 Also the beautiful domed Frauenkirche in Dresden -destroyed during World War Two but rebuilt. Then there are the vast Protestant cathedrals in the U.S.A.,Canada and Australia -like St John the Divine in New York and National cathedral in Washington,St Pauls in Melbourne.Riverside Baptist church also in New York City.
@@kaloarepo288 ,, my parents grew up in Hamburg during WWII. I was born in Hamburg but have lived in Australia since 1960. Der Michel (the name for St Michaels in the local language) luckily escaped any serious damage during WWII. Quite extraordinary, since Hamburg was one of the most bombed cities in Germany.
traditional churches are so damn beautiful
so. Im assuming Cologne Cathedral, the Vyšehrad, church of our lady before Týn, and Saint Vitus cathedral don't exist?
Left out the church in Cologne
A criminal oversight.

Don't forget Saint Sava Cathedral in Belgrad, Serbia ☦
Interesting that you did not include the biggest brick church in the world that have a capacity for 25,000 people. St. Mary's Church in Gdańsk Poland.
jasna gora in czestochowa [my family city] is very big and impresive too
I love small churches.
I love the people who gather in the buildings - they're the real church.
The basilica of Yamoussoukro is an amazing building you get to visit. It has big Versailles style gardens, and you’ll get the possibility to see the whole town while you’re at the top of it. There also is an immense hospital adjacent to it so in case you get any kind of trouble while being there, you’ll find the best possible medical treatment you need.
There is also a very beautiful cathedral in Abidjan called Saint Paul. Dude, you get to visit it as well!!!
We Ivorians are very proud to have these kind of church in our country, our land. So the comments of the author(s) of this video are only his (theirs) and only depict his (their) point of view.
i gonna create a trip to visit with my local Colombian church we have traveled to a lot places to meet our catholic brothers around the world
Good to know. Thanks for telling us all this info
if you don't know about it Rouen's notre dame is pretty incredible, it's flamboyant gotic architecture at it's finest and was the highest building in the world for a few years, I recommend a lot
The Cologne Cathedral is missing. The Cologne Cathedral is the largest Gothic cathedral.
Where is Barcelona's Sagrada Famiglia?
In Spain.....
It is Gaudi rather than voluminous!
I appreciate all this in terms of architecture. As far as the morals behind this pratice, it's up each person to debate for themselves

Seville's Cathedral is the biggest gothic Cathedral in the world. So, imposible to rank Munster or Milan in those higher positions.
As far as I know, the tower of the Ulm Münster is the highest of any churches. Probably that'a why it is listed. But this shortlist is a bit weird anyway. That one church on SA looks like a train station. What about Cologne Dome, the largest north of the Alps. Or the Dome of Speyer, the largest church in Romanesque style in the world?
LOL
Milan Duomo is 12.000 square metres, Sevilla cathedral is 11,520 square emtres, WTF are you babbling about??
These measurements are very subjective.
St Peter may have been thought to have founded the Catholic Church (not)... but Jesus was the one who everyone knows founded the Universal church.
The documented records are there.
Peter chosen by Christ to head the Church,
Christ is the Life, Blood, cornerstone of the Church. How much we need to love and honor Him more every minute of our day, sure you agree most heartedly.
May I correct you, sir? St. Peter was never the founder of the Catholic Church it is Jesus. He just entrusted the Church to St. Peter the first Pope.
Sorry, Peter was.
Christ is the Cornerstone.
Hagia Sofia..10 places empty then the rest...only the fact that it is 1000 years older than the next oldes one...
Saint Paul's is older though
2:42 the best, Milan 🔝
God bless us start and end your day with our ALMIGHTY GOD. THANKS
There is no church that can beat St Peter's Basilica of Vatican .***
There are several very large churches in Italy. not mentioned in this video. ***

The National Shrine in Washington DC should be on this list, it's certainly worthy and the tenth largest Catholic Church in the world.
To put things into perspective, Angkor Wat in Cambodia is still the largest religious structure ever built and is still being used for religious purposes today. Theravada Buddhist monks and nuns can still be seen today practicing the religion. Angkor Wat is still a site for pilgrimage for Buddhists today.

Where is Saint Sava’s basilica in Belgrade?
You forgot the most beatiful of all, The Beatiful Prinvince temple in Guadalajara, Mexico; able to seat 15,000 people at once.
Number 10 is known as Anglican Cathedral of Liverpool, close to the Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral. The architect is Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, not just 'Gilbert Scott'.
No one cares about made up titles like Sir. Other people aren't subject to British classicism.
Fun Fact - Giles Gilbert Scott was a Roman Catholic, and Fred Gibberd, who designed the Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral was an Anglican (and was good friends with Giles Gilbert Scott son!)
@@sandraleiva1633 Classism, you mean? Some DO care and they don't need your blessing. It can also indicate whether he was esteemed in his field. PS how much of our culture isn't 'made up'? That's the very meaning of culture.
@@dionyates2482 I agree with you, however she is simply making the point that people will understand just fine if they say their actual name instead of adding the Sir. Although thanks for the fun fact.
Different culture.
Should have listed St Issac in St Petersburg Russia.
the architect who designed the Liverpool cathedral looks somewhat startled, almost as if he didn't expect to be picked.
Hi Mary 👋🏻
Not on here, but St. Simeon, The Cave Church in Cairo is the biggest church I've visited. Not to mention, they have zipline
These are Mega Churches indeed. Opinions are going to be really divided on this one. Greetings from Canada!
Very very strange : the 5th biggest church in the world, the National Basilica of Koekelberg in Brussels is not there... And it is also the biggest Art-Deco church in the world...
it also depend of which mesurement you count, because Koeklberg is not the tallest, or the longest, but it's vast, but yeah many people forget about this one...
The Seville cathedral is one of the most amazing buildings I have seen.
12:00 The Basilica Lady of Aparecida, in Brazil, is the second largest in the world. Its indoor area has the capacity for up to 30,000 people for a mass, while the outdoor area has the capacity to support an mass of 300,000 people.
Funny story about St John The Devine: They had peacocks on the church property and one day someone stole one of them. But the next day they bought it back because it was too loud.
The Basilica of St. Joseph in Montreal, Canada deserves a place here. It is one of the largest in the world, also, the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico.
One thing is evident. The more modern of these churches that try to imitate or mimic the classical architecture of the past do a woefully inadequate job of doing so.
I wonder if God sees it this way.
thanks for showing the churches in the world. sometimes I pray for Haya Sophya church will be for Christian community in middle east. Hope God will be with all Christian to get back the Haya Sophya amen.
Cologne Cathedral ?
I thought a Mega Church was defined by it's congregation size and seating capacity.
The churches are huge. How do they keep these beautiful buildings clean ?
The founder of the Catholic church was not St.Peter butJesus Christ.
Cornerstone.
Nope. It’s a much more modern construct.
These may be large and impressive buildings, but The Bible teaches that "the Church" is the body of people who believe in and worship Jesus Christ.
Yes, and the Bible teaches us as well to reflect on how God wishes to be housed and honored.
Yes, that's quite right.
You show the Ulm minster, but not the much bigger dom of Cologne?
