  • When Haggai was born with a large growth on her face, her mum, Malina, knew she would need surgery. Unfortunately, living in a remote village in Papua New Guinea, this specialist care wasn't available but Haggai's doctor, Dr Ben Yappo, had another option.
Dr Yappo reached out to the teams at The Children's Hospital at Westmead and with the support of ROMAC (Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children) to cover all expenses for Malina, Haggai was flown to Sydney for her life-changing surgery.
The delicate six-hour operation was led by Professor Chris Forrest, who is proudly funded by Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation, together with Dr Gemma Olsson and Associate Professor Damian Marucci and was a huge success. It has only been a few months but Haggai is already settled in back home, happy and healthy, with her whole future ahead of her.
