- The Mackie Thump series has become synonymous with everything you’re looking for in great sounding loudspeakers. The latest generation of Thump includes the Thump212 and Thump215 models, the Thump212XT and 215XT models and two subwoofers, Thump 115S and Thump 118S. We invited Mackie's senior product specialist Brad Gagné to give us a deep dive of all the new features and DJ/producer Jansport J to give us his real-world first impressions.
Redesigned from the ground up, Mackie’s Thump series has a number of performance-oriented upgrades and user experience enhancements. Boasting an impressive 1,400 watts of Class D power, these are the loudest Thumps yet. But they’re not just louder-Mackie worked overtime to ensure that the latest Thumps have an inherent clarity and musicality to their performance, no matter how hard you push them. Mackie’s latest evolution of Thump has also added automated feedback elimination and music ducking, offering the peace of mind you need to focus on what matters: your set.
If you’re looking for even more control over your sound, check out the innovative ThumpXT models. Choose between four different voicing modes (Music, Live, Club and Monitor) to tailor ThumpXT’s performance to your unique needs. Taking your set outside? Press the “Outdoor” button and ThumpXT will re-voice itself to provide the same type of performance you’d expect indoors. Bluetooth connectivity offers users the ability to stream their music wirelessly, switch voice modes and more via the Thump Connect 2 App.
Bringing your sound anywhere has never been easier with the new Thump series. Built with new polypropylene bodies, the latest evolution of Thump is lightweight and ultraportable, while the ergonomic handles on the 15” and 18” subwoofers make transport easier than ever.

Just got a pair of 215XT . Seriously impressive low-range and power even without a sub. I didn't want to push it at child-intensive-neighborhood, but I reached "not-too-loud backyard party" (the kind of in which you'd have discussions at tables with ~30-50 people attending, while music playing at back) with speaker main output being at 50% and phone at around 30-40%. There was A LOT of room to push. Mids and highs are super-impressive. My ear says that bass sounds mostly at 70-100hz outdoors (8m away), which isn't bad at all. It doesn't "woof" without direction, but it has a nice punch towards the direction they are used. Stereo-image is great! These could easily be used for a live-artists outdoors or for DJs playing at restaurant decks, and that's without a sub. If you want that extra-warmth then additional sub would be a no-brainer, but that being said I could use these indoors even for a metal-band on midsize-club without sub at all! Bass drum would sound great, even if it wouldn't wiggle stomach.
I really like the outdoors-button. It restores high-end-presence and sound good to me, even though it's most-likely just EQ-correction.
Something to complain: Manual was a bit subpar. It didn't really help on pairing the bluetooth. Bluetooth activation had to be done in a very specific way and blinking blue light didn't automatically mean that it was in pairing mode. This would really need rethinking, as I'd think that quite a few of users will give up and throw 1-start to "Connect 2" software. Linking was also bit harder than it should be, as you could easily set both to "waiting for pairing" -state instead of one waiting and one sending link-request.
Tip for bluetooth-pairing: Seems like you need to manually pair a single speaker from bluetooth devices -- don't rely purely on "Connect 2" searching at start-up. If you see one 215XT device which gives "incorrect pairing code" or such an error message then you are trying to pair it to wrong device / receiver! When speaker bluetooth-pairing is set up correctly it seems that there is a second 215XT device, which on my OnePlus 8 Pro has a headset-icon (as playback-bluetooth devices usually do). That's the device which you want to pair with.
(@MackieTV please feel free to correct my statements if I simply fumbled with bluetooth or missed a point)
Never-the-less, my grin is so damn wide 😃
I would love to have sub with this pair and hopefully will have someday. Three thumbs up!
Additional observations: Portability is superb! Good handles and light weight really makes these amazing for people who either supply PA & mixing-services or do a lot of gigging alone. No hard edges which would tear your hands, and having a top handle for throwing speaker to stand while holding from side-handle is user-friendliness at it's best! Speakers are so light that one can easily carry both at the same time.
Tried a pair at local festival event outdoors while covering around 1000 squarefeet area. Outdoors usage is a bit limited when trying to cover area of this size. Pair gives lots of power at low-mid-range as well as treble, but needs additional sub if you want that warmth or need power for full band usage. Some electric songs sound excellent on high volume without sub(s), while some sound somewhat plain due to lack of low end. For an example EDM hit "Friday" sounds good, while Notorious Bigs "Juicy" lacks those low-end vibes. Using pair as sole source for announcements and background music works excellent. Also using these for semi-acoustic band or for a 10-person swing band or such should go without a hitch.
For this same event our local PA-supplier supplied four old passive JBL speakers from early 2000, the kind of which are over 4 feet high and look like looming towers. Each of these weight around 20kg and have 500W RMA. These were filled with couple of JBL subs. I'm going to state that two Thumbs should easily do the same job with only 30% of the overall weight (note: excluding those subs), so there is a lot of excellent carry-weight-value!
At indoors lack of bass isn't as clear, but if you are heading towards "full sound" then you probably want to have sub as well. I'm going to order one for sure, but that being said I'm still impressed. These speakers are extra-lightweight with solid performance.
Hey Janne, I have an issue with my Mackie Thump 215XT's. I just bought a pair last week (New Zealand). This happened; ruclips.net/video/3dM95RNUIgw/видео.html. Now really nervous trusting them. I Also have blue tooth reliability and HF hiss is concerning. As a fellow user, I wonder what your experience has been? I am nervous and not sure if I should get refunded. Thanks mate.
@@Kaneem thats a scary issue. I havent had similar problem, nor has my bluetooth been unreliable or anything similar. Looks like your unit might be defective?
@@jannelepola4730 Thanks for the feedback. I am at the stage of do I go for replacements or back out of them altogether. So the BT link between your units are solid?
@@Kaneem my BT works without any problems. Connection seems solid, even though I would usually go with xlrs.
These thangs are legit! Impressive bass and very loud!
Mackie is doin there thang 🔊🔊🔊🔊
Thank you GC., Jansport J, and B-Rad for checking out the new THUMP Series!
Thank you guys for the detailed breakdown just what I was looking for
Need to put -3 frequency down on the Mackie Thump115S specs.
Thank you for the new THmp XT 215
Just ordered !
May check out a pair in a few weeks for Live Sound.
Are the mackie thump 15 super loud and crisp? Just wondering how well they would sound with my current 4 sound town 18 inch active subs. I am using 2 proreck 15 inch loudspekers now and they just do not have that crisp sound once the volume is really jacked up
Pretty cool.
Cool review
Definitely getting some 12s and a sub!
okay but can you guys have these on display please and have it available to do some demo?
Wow! Thanks for such a nice and detailed video! Looks like it's one of the best budget acoustics for any purpose! How does it sounds compared to RCF715mk4?
I’m not sure how the new 18inch sub performs and sounds; anyone have one that they can describe the features?
Pretty cool. Do they have 10 inch too?
What’s the difference between this one from the bst?
wanted that mackie thump 215 badly but came accross the yamaha DXR 212/215 MKII and wonderding if i should go for the thump of the DXR given that am looking for loud, clear and bassy speaker. to note that both have the same price tag.
I thought it was the Thump 118S, not S118?
Works great for vinyls DJ's like me, The first time I had Hummm jus't turn on Feedback eliminator and hummm disappear
Do they hiss? Mine have the static hiss straight out of the box and it's loud... Also cracks and pops when I turn em on
came across the thump215 and thrash215 and heard that thump is better. but the thing is that theres only 60 USD price difference between the 2. so, is there a big difference in terms of sound?
Thump is definitely better if you want better bass. I play rap and hip-hop on them mostly and I can feel it in my chest. I heard the thrash, my cousin has it. I will say it's loud but not as loud as the thump. The thrash definitely does not have as much bass at the thump
If they only added power con it would make an amazing product
Better alto ts215 or MACKIE THUMP 215?
Any problems whit this speaker anybody?????
pretty hissy speaker. I have the 12xt and without anything plugged in and all gains/volumes on zero the hiss is fairly loud. Much more so then others I have tried
@@harpham13 hello friend..l'whent to guitar center for a sound test and yes it is a little iss sound l' yes is normal..l' made the test on the 215 and 212..the mids and highs sound really nais..low no bad at all..what's your expierence on your speaker??????😀🇺🇸🇺🇸
@@espacio5911 goo man for getting a test done. The speaker itself is brilliant to be fair. I mainly use it to teach in a band environment so for around 4 hours a day it has two keyboards, two electric drum kits a bass and vocals all pumping through it with no issues. I did use it last night as an FRFR speaker with a Guitar Modeller and it kept up with a drummer, bassist and another guitar through a 412. I did find myself getting a little hot going in from the pedal, so had to run the main gain and channel gain pretty full then dial back the gain going in from source. Sounds full on the lower mids and lows. High frequencies do get a little lost at high volume but that is to expected on most lower/mid price range speakers. Im happy with my choice. Was between this and the Alto ts412 but the mackie app is far more useful having control over the gains and main volume.
@@harpham13 ..thanks...that"s a good price range speaker, not bad for 700 rms..l"m going to order two 215 xt..😊😊😄😀🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I got the jbl eon 712 I hate them, static and hiss, both a mackie external mixer now the 215xt heard great reviews so far, JBLs can’t find any great reviews.
Am not recomend the subs
lol, "sounds great" says the guy with headphones on
