Back when I was on a Buffy message board during the show's run, one of our regulars was a seminary student (she's now a minister). She was especially fascinated by this episode, especially as it relates to the idea of forgiveness as Giles defines it, what in Christian terms is called "grace." She even wrote a sermon about it. James (and Buffy) needs forgiveness for what he did, even though he is sure he doesn't deserve it. Yet he is given it anyway and saved from eternal torment by the teacher, whose name is ... Grace!

Sort of. Except... Buffy is still the only thing he thinks about.
- Ghosts and snakes. Got it. Another added to the list of things you're afraid of lol.
- I freaking cackled when you were asking to recruit Spike and then at the end he gets up from his wheelchair lol. I do love the back and forth brutal insults between him and Angelus. Comedy.
- My sister ALWAYS quotes that line to me: "Don't walk away from me bitch!" whenever I walk away from the conversation. We immediately laugh afterwards cuz it's hilarious and such a random moment to quote that line 🤣She'll also quote Darla's line: "You're sick. And you'll always be sick." whenever I like something that she considers to be gross lol.
- Sarah and David did phenomenal with that entire act. I'd love to see people act that out in person.
With Buffy, sometimes you make a wish. And then the wish come true. And then you regret ever making that wish because you feel somehow responsible for the monkey hand consequences.
I think it's not so much still in his system, but he felt what the ghost felt, so he's grossed out by feeling love. At least that's my perception of it
I Only Have Eyes For You was a great stand alone episode, where the tragic love affair between the teacher and student from the 1950's is repeated down through the years by anyone who is influenced by it in the school now. Great writing here in a very atmospheric episode, in which we also have the Angelus/Drusilla/Spike triangle in the background. Interesting that Buffy has no empathy for the student in the incident, of course she is using her own experience of being hurt and reflecting this in her attitude. Another interesting thing about this episode is we hear Snyder and Police Officer mention 'The Mayor' for the first time. Great scene at the end when Spike is now able to walk and is plotting his revenge. This is very much in the style of X-Files type episode, great writing again.

This is one of my favorite episodes of the season written by Marti Noxon. Sweet and caring woman and one of my favorite writers for t.v. ever!

I think the idea is Spike has only recently recovered from his injuries, but still good control to keep up the ruse.
The truth is that the "exorcism" in the school doesn't work because Cordelia decides to add "totally" to the wording, and that messes everything up ;)
A show with evil fairies (sort of) - Merlin! And you'll find a familiar face in it...

This isn't my favorite but it has some really good stuff in it. Of course, Spike getting out of the chair is the highpoint but the acting is really good across the board. I also like the idea of weaving the story of the starcrossed lovers into the Buffy/Angel storyline. It's also nice to get the Jenny reference.
Also, "You stink of lies" is my themesong.
The highpoint was the role reversal of Buffy and and Angel being possessed. That was a thing of beauty.
I love your little predictions corner at the beginning of the episode! So fun! I binged Buffy on my first watch through, but I kinda wish I didn't so I could ruminate and theorize what might happen like you are. Great episode!

Your initial comment does make a lot of sense. I think it's really insightful. I am not spoiling anything, but that this is a villain-centered season is an interesting perspective. I am not sure it is in the end, but maybe it is. Food for thought.
Know that the grr, arg awesome is at the end of every roll poisoned and chassis a couple times, so you probably wanna watch every time. And i think Spike, who i also adore, just healed over time. I won't give any hints or spoilers, i should leave because i wanna say so much more.
Oh, except that swords are awesome, i completely agree. Just keep watching.

As soon as I heard her say that Dean started yelling in my head "Fight the fairies!!"
I love the relationship with Angel and Drusilla in this Episode. I think Angel really likes broken and damaged people around him. He himself is very messed up.. 😏

This is my favorite episode of the season, and one of my favorites of the series. The thematic stuff about forgiveness is brilliantly done, and SMG's and Boreanaz's acting at the climax is so wonderful. (IIRC, it was that scene that convinced Whedon et al. that he could carry his own spin-off show...)

I love the subtext in this episode--Buffy beating herself up for overriding Angel's (seriously weak, to be fair) protest before they made love--and the shocking trauma of having the love of your life literally stop loving you in an instant. It's just so juicy good.
Lost Girl has plenty of evil Fairies (or Fey) if you're interested
_lost girl_ has charisma for days but the show is fundamentally uncomfortable with its own premise.

yes, that's half of it. it is pretty strange that the succubus is so obsessed with monogamy, when she can be bothered to have sex at all. they're also aggressively nonsensual with the way they depict her powers.
@@sirmoonslosthismind I'll be honest it didn't bother me that much, it made sense with her past, though I would have liked her to get past that eventually. Tbh the thing that bothered me more was her ending up with Lauren, could never bring myself to forgive the character for the thing with the Ash, questionable consent and all, you know?
I don't know why I've never liked this episode much, I usually skip it, but I'm here with you for the Spike excitement, he is SUCH a fun character!

YES there IS a show with evil fairy's. It's called TRUE BLOOD!!!? Omg I hope you do that one next. I would watch literally every episode with you on that one too!! It's got vampires, werewolves, Witches and things you have never even heard of. And there's a sexy love triangle and badass characters like Lafayette. It's all set on Louisiana so it's very redneck vibes and set on a world where vampires are "out of the coffin" and there's a synthetic blood called True Blood. So they don't have to eat people. But they do in secret
Wow only three episodes left this season I am looking forward to the next three reactions. First actually ghost episode this time let’s go. For Halloween you should watch the so bad it’s good buffy the vampire slayer movie. Spike standing at the end always gives me chills like he’s faking it and for how long.
