In the episode, we head deep into the Northern Rockies and experience some nasty weather before making camp in -30 weather and having a bonfire. Driving to the Yukon, we used a Toyota 4Runner to haul an off-road trailer. My wife Tori and I were totally self-sufficient, hauling a place to camp, cook, and eat with outfitting in tow. We were totally off-grid for six days on this cross Canada road trip. Winter Overlanding across a country known for winter had us feeling a little nervous, particularly because we were bringing our toddler Wesley with us. Camping with kids has its challenges. Once in the Yukon, we'd say in an off-grid log cabin while exploring the surrounding mountains for a couple weeks before moving on to other adventures in the territory. Nevertheless, a great adventure was had.

What I liked most about this video was your determination to do this in winter, with a toddler and your wonderful wife. Reminds me of what my dad put us through as kids.

@michael boultinghouse I remember being about 6 years old and my brother was 2, we were stuck in the mud up to the axels high in the mountains on a fishing trip. Dad walked out to get help and left Mom and my brother and I for hours. It seemed he always took us where no one else was. Lots of adventures.

The thing I liked most was that you gave an unvarnished, straight from the hip, no excuses, all the good, the bad, and the ugly, and with a smile glimpse into an adventure on the road that Tori is rocking with the Tacoma, and all the real life stuff like: cooking, breaking down, driving, boredom, excitement, beautiful country views, because a lot of people are craving some real life stuff. Way more people should be seeing all of your videos. Thanks for making all of these.

I for sure did not start watching this channel to see a youngster get parented, but as a dad whose been on plenty of road trips with his son and wife, you two are awesome with that young man! The patience you both, but especially Tory from how this is edited, show for that little one is to be admired and called out for its purity!
    Thanks for being great parents!

Nothing so far , got a few tips for you, don’t Carey the spare under your truck! If you get in a hole and blow a tire you can’t get spare out , buy a 4 way wrench for your lug nut , buy a floor jack, get a bbq lighter for your stove , prepare as much food ahead of time as you can , crack eggs and carry in a container for example, don’t use awning in a snow storm ,

    • @shanewells9067

@@shanewells9067 Well, don't come back and comment, @$$hole. 99.9% of comments here are positive, and he asked what you liked. Just don't bother. "Don't Carey", WTF does that mean? Did you mean to say "carry", or is "Carey" some insider joke? Have you seen Jim's other videos, or know that he is an outdoor survivor/adventurer? Your advice is a load of it too. Ok, crack eggs before hand, what a waste of time, bwa-hah-hah! And what, put the container in a cooler, or is the container going to keep cracked eggs fresh for days...need I go on????

My wife and I have a daughter that we were told she had Rhett's Syndrome. We later found out it was Pitt Hopkins, which is another rare genetic disorder. I definitely understand the challenges that goes along with raising a child with special needs (she is 20 years old now). From what I can see, both of you are doing an outstanding job as parents. I love seeing the beautiful and isolated country you explore. Places I will never see but just knowing nature so grand still exists is wonderful. You know how to figure things out when you get in difficult situations. Calm, cool, and sometimes pissed off which is refreshing. And sibling love but frustrating too when brother does stuff that bugs you. Just like when you were kids I’m sure. or getting cranky when things get scary. I laughed so hard when you and your wife Tory exchanged some snappy comments during a difficult rapid run that scared the crap out of you both. Very real and weirdly charming. Thanks for all the tips on fire starting and other cool things to know the next time I’m in the outback. Ha! I’m 73 years old so that’s not going to happen. I just tag along from my living room. Keep them coming.

Indeed and I think that’s he was trying to scare us out of his own concern to make us be careful and take it seriously but maybe that’s not a bad thing too. I imagine there are a good number of people who run into trouble on this remote route and likely some aren’t prepared for it. You could tell he was a good guy for sure. Thanks so much for watching this video and sharing your good natured comment 😊

@@JimBairdAdventurer Agree with your thoughts. The "F" word does a excellent, universal job of conveying dangerous situations. I also shared this with a Canadian Facebook friend. Wishing you many more miles of safe travels. Thank you for sharing your adventures.

Got to love the advice from the online “Armchair” adventurers. What a great trip. PS. I think it was the same guy who told me that I would most likely be trampled by bison and then eaten by bears when I rode through a couple of summers ago. 😂

Haha, ya there was a good amount of that going on but I think a lot of people do run into issues there. I have driven a few other long remote roads including the trans Labrador highway and the gravel road all the way up to Stony Rapids in Northern Saskatchewan which gets very interesting past Points North

@@JimBairdAdventurer Agreed. I was working on a project south of there, 5 hour drive on an active logging road in the winter, -10c and snowing. I did tell 2 engineers from back east who rented a Chrysler Sebring and we’re going to attempt the drive in that they would most certainly die. Lol. I got them set up with a 4x4 and had them follow one of my guys in who could call the kms.

If your referring to generator box comment? Ive built a few over the years had four or five of those smaller units ive used on my trapplines and at my camps. They extend overall life time of generator in freezing conditions. Not the same bear and bison guy
