This may sound strange, but the way you have your MiuMiu bag packed at 6:16 is so satisfying! I don’t think I’ve seen anyone perfectly line up and store their SLGs and other pouches so well. I had to pause and appreciate the beauty of your packing technique! 😂
I don’t think Lululemon staff receive commission. I might be wrong. But I really don’t think so. Most regular retail stores in the U.S. do not give commission to their employees. Only the higher end retail. I really depends on the company and what their customer service policy is.
Lululemon staff definitely wouldn't. It's not a fashion house, and I don't believe most people at department stores would either. Maybe only the luxury ones like Saks or Bergdorf, not Macy's altough they should because Macy's on 34th is the best bang for their buck and the staff is great. Helped me pick out a Ralph Lauren dress shirt for a party. At the jewelry counter, a lady let my mom try on a big jeweled necklace with sapphires and rubies, when she showed interest, no judgement or question if she was going to buy it.
It was so cool seeing some of what was flying first class from Australia, Meredith. I was living vicariously through you. I’m looking forward to more vlogs and seeing you interact with the other wonderful youtubers. Thanks for sharing!
Can't wait for all the NYC vlogs! We do have a sound system here with lights in America. They either beep like yours or say "Walk" or "Wait". I'm very surprised that the ones you encountered in New York didn't have either of those. Even small towns have them.
I’m a frequent visitor to NYC! I would live there if I could! I have to laugh re the traffic lights, even if they had the sounds like here in Australia, you wouldn’t hear them in NYC from all the noise! It would be like having an ashtray on a motorbike, completely useless! 😉😉❤️
Actually the bird chirpy walk signs seem so antiquated to me now that many city have the updated ones saying “walk…walk” etc. Odd NYC doesn’t have any? Maybe because they have such high noise pollution? The big coffee chains in the US purposely serve bitter coffee. Not the best for sure! But I’d have to say the second best coffee I’ve ever had in the world is in the US - Kona coffee in Hawaii. Insanely good! Up there with Italian coffee IMHO.
We do have a crosswalk sound system, similar to Australia in some cities but it is not standard in all. I understand about your flight time because I live in the South but flew to the West coast to connect to a flight to Australia about five years ago. I visited three of your cites Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. I fell in love with the bakery “Lune”. Enjoy New York. I use to live there , loved it and sometimes I miss it very much. ❤

To add context to Meredith’s Lululemon story, I went to David Jones last weekend and when I asked the assistant for a size of boot I needed to try, she verbally groaned and rolled her eyes before she stomped off to get them. Very different to the US 😀
I still can’t believe how close you were to not coming. Lululemon’s service is like that in Australia. I used to work there. They have the best service and I say this as someone who came from luxury retail. They ask for your name, they ask what you are looking for, they teach you about sizes and fabrics, they see you from beginning to end. This is how I was trained, however this was prior to 2020, so maybe it has changed. With that said, I agree that Australia’s service in general is not as good as it used to be and in comparison to other countries.
Yes! Iv had great service at Lululemon in Australia. The lady helping me went above and beyond. I almost felt like we had become friends as I left the store 😂 ❤

Lululemon employees don’t make commission . I will say all of their stores have good customer service tho . Tipping culture in the US is out of control , people expect tips for anything .
Just watching your vlog…I visited NYC two weekends ago to see the Met Costume Institute exhibit and stayed at the Intercontinental Barclay, as well. I would have been so excited if I had been there at same time as you and actually ran into you. So glad you enjoyed my country.
I flew business class to Australia on Quantas almost 10 years ago. I loved the flight, though there was no shower. It cost me $14 thousand dollars back then. My husband and I fly business on international flights and it is just fine.
Most US retail chains don't provide workers commission/tips. American culture is very friendly and chatty compared to Canada, Australia, and some parts of Europe. 😂
Hey Meredith, great to see you’re having a fabulous time in NY, with regards to Lululemon in Australia, we have a store in Miranda and the service there is as exactly as you described in NY, super helpful, ask for your name etc, you should definitely give them a try if your in the area.
Its mainly places that are in the food service industry that you’ll deal with tips but retail doesn’t do commission unless its a luxury retailer then the employees will get that extra money so that lulu lemon employee was more than likely just being nice because that’s how they are!

I never flew first class and it's so amazing you want to share this experience with us ❤. I love the miu miu tote ❤. Even after 40 hours of travelling you look amazing as always 😊
I need to know about this Australian coffee because I do agree that a lot of American coffee is bitter. Also, I do agree that we generally have good customer service in America. I can’t imagine paying somebody for a service and having them be rude. We definitely frown upon that although you do see it here and there.
Haha ok since our coffee is so bad (I've heard this before) I need to know what's different about Australian coffee! And how is it different from European coffee?
I think providing all employees with a living wage is part of a fair and just society. Nobody should have to rely on tips to support themselves or their families (to me this just makes the service provided artificial instead of genuine in any event). I am a New Zealander and haven't found any real issue with the service provided in Aussie or NZ. Loved seeing what you got up to in NY and looking forward to the next vlog!
There are more and more crosswalks with sound now for people with disabilities. However, as a NYer, the lights and noises and red/green hands are “optional”, we cross the street whenever we see the opportunity. 😂 I was just in another state and I noticed the residents there patiently waiting at each intersection for the green hand and thought ohhhhh. Can’t wait to hear more about your trip!!
Girl don't drink that Starbuck junk. No wonder you think the coffee is bitter. Lol no NYer crosses on the light. We cross when we can no matter the light. I'm glad you spent time with everyone vs vlogging. Thats way more important.

Nice blog. How luxurious. Happy your service was good. I’m in America and that’s what most retail stores do when trying clothes on. The higher end retail stores ask for your name. I guess we’re spoiled. Also, in Colorado we have the beep walk and don’t walk signs for the blind at most lights. But try an American when to walk and don’t walk. They will ignore it. So fun comparing! I guess we have lousy coffee. Except Hawaii maybe. lol.
Because you have to go through LAX which is always a terrible experience, there’s always a long layover, and Emirates is nicer than any airline doing the Sydney, LA, NY legs. I’d rather do the longer flights

There are U.S. cities that have crosswalks with the sounds you described; they are called “Accessible Pedestrian Signals”. NYC must be tricky for the blind and visually impaired.
Meredith, as a NYC resident I highly recommend that you go to one of the smaller third wave coffee houses. Starbucks is just 🤮. I hope you and the girls enjoy your trip. Go to some of the smaller brands in Soho or Tribeca, like Nili Lotan or Rachel Comey Also, Gabriela Hearst has amazing clothes that are low key and stylish. Have fun!
Thanks for visiting our lovely city! And as always for you AMAZING content. All the work does not go unnoticed 😊. As for service/wages/tips in the city, it’s … tricky. I’m 95% sure Lululemon does not work on commission, as none of my retail jobs (non-luxury) have ever paid them. However, what we do have in NY is a “living” wage. It’s a MUCH higher wage than is required by federal law in the US, and something relatively new. (Still a bit low for “living” in NYC, but much better than before.) As for tips…ugh…where to begin. Yes, you can make a decent amount of money, but there’s also the possibility of going into a night’s work, staying for 8-10 hours, and walking out with $40 if the restaurant was dead. I’m not sure that’s the answer. I’ve had excellent service in Europe where tipping is not the norm either.
Considering your story about the visa waver, is it more difficult to travel to the US than other places? Service in the States varies widely. Sounds like you had really nice experiences but I wouldn't say that's the norm. Some crosswalks here do have noise (in my experience that's a new thing) but in NYC no one pays attention to crosswalk signs anyway, you just look at the traffic and go when you can. I'm happy for you that you get to make such a long flight in such comfort. That's lovely. Looking forward to the next installment!
I’ve never been to NYC, but what you reported about the lack of traffic light/cross walk sounds surprises me. I live in a small town (population 4000) in an upper Midwest state and our cross walks talk to us and make sounds.
I’m sure Meredith figured this out after a day or two, but crosswalk signs mean nothing in New York. You go when there’s an opening in traffic, regardless of the color, a sound would be meaningless too. 😂❤
You might round up your taxi fee, you might tip the Uber driver in the app, food delivery not really as you’ve pre paid for the food and no one has cash. Definitely not hairdressers or manicurists. Nothing is expected though.
My beautiful daughter has her Aussie travel/work visa all set and is moving there in late November. I’m curious to see how she’ll go working for no tips. Her visa is for 2 years and my heart if she stays all of that time, or God forbid falls in love & stays there 😭 Nice vlogging for your first days , I’m sure you were exhausted. I don’t believe most retail stores pay employees commission, and LuluLemon doesn’t.
My American city has sound at crosswalks. In some places it's a bird chirp, not just the beep. On the other end though, jealous of Dubai not doing incessant calls in the airport.
Q-is the shower private or for everyone on 1st class? also this is what dreams are made of. congrats on that. one day I hope to fly like that. also the sound for crossing, where I'm at (Oregon) some sound like a bird, and other crosswalks say words. It's odd that in NY it didn't, but now I wonder if they have bird sounds and maybe you thought you were hearing birds. we are very ADA (American with disabilities act) here in the States and they fix those things right away or else they will get in big trouble. now I want to report those crosswalks.
They’re going to be well staffed in NYC because the stores have a lot of traffic. I wish we were not tipping at restaurants and had living wages. But you don’t tip at anywhere here but at restaurants. Maybe saks is comission?
Most people always say bad things about Americans and I liked that you said something nice about the service here
I just call it as I see it
This may sound strange, but the way you have your MiuMiu bag packed at 6:16 is so satisfying! I don’t think I’ve seen anyone perfectly line up and store their SLGs and other pouches so well. I had to pause and appreciate the beauty of your packing technique! 😂

My mom did end up getting a diamond necklace later on, and I have a golden cross which I treasure deeply when I got it as a Christmas gift.
Commissioned areas in department stores are shoes, jewelry and cosmetics
Good to know they do it just to give the service then

The US is very rigid and a little outdated in how the handle tourists and customs Autumn. Security is obviously the focus, but it’s still hard work.
"The Bad Guy" is the song she sampled it in. Very cool! xx
Thank you ☺️
I’ve never been to NYC, but what you reported about the lack of traffic light/cross walk sounds surprises me.
I think some places have them and some don’t
Oh what joy girls❤
It was definitely joyful
In Australia you don't tip hairdressers, manicurists, taxi or uber drivers, food delivery?
You might round up your taxi fee, you might tip the Uber driver in the app, food delivery not really as you’ve pre paid for the food and no one has cash. Definitely not hairdressers or manicurists. Nothing is expected though.
Watched this while getting ready for church this morning and realizing what a bad RUclipsr I was of getting footage with everybody else in it 😂
It’s hard to enjoy the moment and vlog
Welcome! ❤❤❤
Thank you ☺️
When u push the button at the crosswalk though it usually talks and beeps. If someone doesn’t push it each time it won’t unfortunately

Meredith...... I don't think you understand...... you are incredibly slay!!
lol, I think I’m too old to slay
Enjoy!!!
Thank you ☺️
My beautiful daughter has her Aussie travel/work visa all set and is moving there in late November.
I hope your daughter loves Australia

There are 2 shower suits for 14 passengers. You book a 20 minute time slot and it’s completely cleaned between each person
Nice vlog😊
Thank you 😊
They’re going to be well staffed in NYC because the stores have a lot of traffic.
I wish we were not tipping at restaurants and had living wages. But you don’t tip at anywhere here but at restaurants.
Maybe saks is comission?

Thanks for saying nice things about Americans, we're not all bad like the media makes it out to be 😊💞!
Most every American I have met has been lovely
@livingluxwithmeredith that's great!
