- In this video, Tom shows how the wireless Artec Leo 3D scanner can automatically align separate scan files. This means that the end user will not have to align these scans during the post processing workflow. Additionally, this scanner can scan shiny metal parts without needing to treat the surface or place tracking dots on the part itself. For more information, please visit: gomeasure3d.co...

Does it know the scale or dimension of the object or does that require a manual post-processing step? Is it calibrated for measurement?
It does know the exact scale of the object. Every Artec scanner is calibrated to sub-millimeter accuracy straight from the factory, no need to calibrate.
Hi, What parameters were used in the scan? I mean distance, fps, texture exposure time? Thanks
We recommend starting with the default settings: Auto exposure and default FPS. For a smaller object like this, we limit the scan distance to 1 meter and turn on Base Removal.
How do you stream leo on the pc? What settings are you using? I'm going mad trying to use mine for a much simpler part than this one
You can turn on screen casting on the Leo, this simply shares the video feed to your PC. There is no way to scan directly into Artec Studio.
In the Projects screen, tap Settings.
Select the Network section.
Turn on the Cast screen to browser toggle.
Locate the scanner’s IP address that appears near the toggle.
Open a web browser on another device.
Type in the Leo’s IP address and confirm your entry.
On Leo, start scanning or open a project.
We recommend starting with the default settings: Auto exposure and default FPS. For a smaller object like this, we limit the scan distance to 1 meter and turn on Base Removal.
why does sketchfab says "3D scan of a crank housing with the Artec Space Spider" ?🤔
You have a good eye! Thanks for catching that. Sometimes, our team scans the same object using different Artec 3D scanners so there might have been a mix up. We're not sure if we scanned it with the Artec Leo and mislabeled it as Artec Space Spider, or actually this was the Artec Space Spider scan data. Since it was 4 years ago, it's hard for us to find the answer.
We have similar parts that were scanned with the Artec Leo you can see for scan sample data:

Our sincere apologies for the mix up!
For anyone who is interested in the 3D model of this part (which might have been scanned using the Artec Space Spider instead of the Artec Leo), you can find it on Sketchfab here: sketchfab.com/3d-models/crank-housing-3d-scan-ad033dc1ca224be39dbe2f7600446983
How well will this scanner deal with a textureless smooth somewhat shiny black object? And how does ambient room lighting affect the scan?
Thanks!
Hi Edward, ambient lighting does not affect the scan. Scanning smooth, shiny, black objects can pose a challenge, but is easily fixed with scanning spray like the one we have in our shop: shop.gomeasure3d.com/collections/aesub-3d-scanning-spray
Do you need for scanner pvc?
is this good to get a mesh of surfaces for automotives?
Yes, it can get 3D mesh of surfaces for automotive, as well as parts and interiors. You can check out this video here: ruclips.net/video/Dh3AwZKi4Kc/видео.html. If you have any other questions, please let us know.
Hi. I am thinking of scanning an object covered with the organic life. Do you think it would be capable of scanning let's say a surface covered with slime, weed or barnacles ?
The Artec Leo is good for scanning organic life, as long as the object is not transparent. So the slime might pose a challenge is it is transparent, as the 3D scanner is unable to scan transparent objects without adding surface treatment. You should be able to scan weed or barnacles without any issues. You can check out this fountain 3D model scanned with the Artec Leo where the bottom has organic life.
Hi, just wondering that if the part model can be converted into SOLIDWORKS or INVENTOR file?
You can use the 3D model as a reference for designing it into a CAD model. If you are interested in learning about the Scan to CAD process in SOLIDWORKS, you can watch our video series here: ruclips.net/p/PL4XNEVS15EmkQAuPJU-8F6cJaEWdHvkYJ
There's a common misconception that a 3D scanner cannot directly output a CAD model. However, this is not true. This is because a 3D scanner outputs point clouds or mesh data, which acts as a single entity that is not editable. You can read more about it here: gomeasure3d.com/article/answer-can-3d-scanner-output-cad-model/
Hope this helps!
Hi. Can we get a solid model after scanning or we must build it manually from a reference STL file ? By a solid model i mean a model which is not mesh, triangular etc.
Hi, Yes you can make solid models and export in a variety of file formats from Artec Studio software: docs.artec-group.com/as/15/en/projects.html#exporting-models-scans-and-point-clouds
can i use this to make DWG files in auto cad and how dimensionaly accurate are they?
Hi, you can export section slices in a DXF format, which are as accurate as the scanner that was used. All of Artec's scanners have a sub-millimeter accuracy. For more information on each scanner, visit our website: gomeasure3d.com/artec/
Fore more on exporting section slices, read here: docs.artec-group.com/as/16/en/additional_modes.html#sections-and-volume
How did you connected with computer and make live scanning? We have that one too and we need to scan it first then transfer to computer via sd card
In addition the scanning performance is not like on the video!
This is the screen casting feature for the Leo. There is no live capture for Artec Studio. You have to transfer the scans via WiFi, Ethernet, or SD card.
@@KingGurcan Your Leo should scan just as fast as this demo. If not, check your frame rate settings, you may need to increase it.
Is it appropriate/good for human face as well? How much for the device?
Yes, the Artec Leo is good for the human face as well. You can see a sample 3D model here: www.artec3d.com/3d-models/bearded-guy-hd. You can find the suggested retail price here: www.artec3d.com/portable-3d-scanners/artec-leo. Please let us know if you have more questions. 😊

@@GoMeasure3D Thanks, pretty nice tool!
How to can i get this
How you exclude the tablemesh in this scan? I have a leo too, but dont see that option, you have a raster🤔 do i miss something🤓
Have you tried the automatic base removal feature?

@@GoMeasure3D thanks, i will try that one🤙🏻
Do you need internet access to scan?
No, you don't need Internet access to scan with the Artec Leo.
What is that even supposed to be? Not the scanner, the thing ur scanning
This is a crank housing, you can take a look at the 3D model here: sketchfab.com/3d-models/crank-housing-3d-scan-ad033dc1ca224be39dbe2f7600446983
is that use for treasure
can these scanners useful for inventor engineering program?
Yes, you can. It's great for reverse engineering from 3D scan data to CAD. Artec Studio software paired with Artec Leo is great for this type of application. If you go to this link and go to the reverse engineering tab, you can read more about it: www.artec3d.com/3d-software/artec-studio#workflows

Difference between actual dimensions and scan dimensions?
Actual dimensions are the true values of the object's measurements. As with every measurement tool (from rules, calipers, or 3D scanners), has a degree of uncertainty. For example, it can never get the true value of the part. Scan dimensions will have measurement error (the difference between scan accuracy and the true accuracy of the object). Professional 3D scanners tend to have better accuracy than low-cost or consumer grade 3D scanners. You have to assess how close you need your scan accuracy to be (which typically depends on your application). For example, if you need it for inspection purposes, you would need the scan accuracy to be high. If you just need to output a 3D model for visualization (e.g. e-commerce), then you would be fine with a less accurate scan data.
