My niece's oldest son and the group he's been with have been called off the SoCal fires and will likely be reassigned to the Park Fire.
I was looking at a map of the fire. I grew up in the area. By this morning, in 3 days, it had covered 50+ miles from Chico to up near Cottonwood. 😢

West side, over half so far burned, *was 100% beneficial* to local ecology, grass and scattered oaks.
Forest Service was debating how to burn it for yrs...easier to "debate", let inevitable happen, lol, than face responsibility, liabilities.

Humans can't in any way prevent a tornado.
However, humans ARE at fault for mismanagement of forests.
You might do a bit of research into how grossly overgrown the West Coast forests are with invasive species and completely unregulated overgrowth of native species.
Read about what that does to old growth forests.
Idiotic politics has taken the place of purposeful management.
You don't want people to point it out when there is a fire ("because now is not the time").
You don't want people to point it out when there is not a fire ("because everything is fine").
You NEVER want to talk about it.
Sadly, that doesn't make reality go away.
For as long as the forests aren't properly managed, this will continue.

Add to that the tree health. The pines in this area have had an infestation of wood eating beetles for decades. The oaks in the area are half dead & rotten. The pines are sick & dry as the root systems are rotting. The floor of the forest is tainted which is the cause of poor root health. It comes down to the chemicals in the air which cover the forest. The invasive beetles are ignored on a state & federal level.
I lived in Magalia! The neighboring city to Paradise. We suffered mass amounts of loss from the Camp fire as well.
This area has naturally rich soil, & beautifully unique mountain structure. It positioned between flat plains & ancient lava fields. It's the most beautiful area for life to prosper. It's under attack for that reason.

Each agency will pay for its own resources at first. Since it's a state responsibility fire, California will bear the brunt of the costs. All the agencies have mutual assistance agreements so that their resources are paid for by California at an agreed rate. Eventually, the various land agencies (CDF, USFS, NPS, BIA, etc.) will get together and parcel out the costs, usually based on how much land was burned from each agency. Currently, from the maps, it looks like about 80% of the land is private/CDF responsibility.

Kooky California environuts won't allow regular clearing of underbrush, and controlled burns, so, when a fire like this is set by some mental defective, which is a much more frequent occurrence nowadays, it quickly becomes unmanageable.

I'll pass that on to my next door Republican neighbors on each side of us who voted for Trump 2016 & 2020 and have dead brush all over their properties that they leave while others of us clear our brush away every year. Dead walnut trees to our east and and west as well as oak debris & bamboo gone wild. Before you generalize like a Republican politician, get some facts, like how most of these fires are on Federal Lands that Republican politicians underfund for clearing.
