I’ve been keeping a personal Rock n Roll Hall of Fame for the last six years. I figured since I rarely agree with the real HOF, why not start my own? So every year on July 4th I “induct” five artists that meant something to ME and MY life. I sit on the back deck, drink some beers and listen to all five artists all afternoon. I also keep the inductees framed on a wall in my home bar…it’s all broken down into what year they were inducted. My wife thinks I’m nuts, but I love it. It’s one of those things that’s important to me. And I love breaking down the five artists that get in every year. It’s not an easy task. The only rule I have is this: I can't induct any artist that I haven't listened to for at least 20 years.

hi, pete noticed you didn't mention jazz-rock fusion, would you consider that category for induction ?? some of those artists are pretty heavy and lean kind of strongly towards the rock side of jazz-rock ( jeff beck, Al dimeola, dixie dregs, 11th house, mahavishnu, brand x, return to forever ) to name a few. my #1 vote would definitely be porcupine tree, as far as progressive rock I feel as though they were the most important band to emerge out of that genre in the last 25 or so years.

@@integrity101 Lol, a brain dead sheep is someone who only accepts the original lineup. Black Sabbath would be nothing without Iommi's riffs. Deal with it.
ELP for sure. Just for Keith Emerson's contribution to keyboard technology alone. I live in Canton Ohio and I have been to the Rock Hall a few times. The most interesting exhibit was the Les Paul exhibit. The woman in rock exhibit was a joke. It had a big case of shoes and various footwear along with some clothes. I realize that fashion is a large part of rock but it reminded me of a clothing boutique and a shoe store.
The first 10 I would induct would be automatic shoe-ins....no ifs, and, or buts about it: 1] NAZARETH 2] APRIL WINE 3] BLUE OYSTER CULT 4] BOSTON 5] FRANK MARINO AND MAHOGANY RUSH 6] THIN LIZZY 7] MOUNTAIN 8] SUPERTRAMP 9] KANSAS 10] CAMEL

Great idea. Can't deny the holy trinity: Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. Jeff Beck, Rainbow, ac/dc, ufo, gary moore, thin lizzy and of course Jimi. I know, not a very original top 10 .... but hey, credit where credit is due.
This conceptual institution is a "should be"! My personal take on the nominees are - Thin Lizzy, Free, Kansas, Ronnie James Dio, UFO, GreatWhite, Montrose, Motorhead, The Runaways, King's X. With these nominees the listener or fan gets a little of every flavor....Blues-based, "Classic rock", Guitar heros, Punk, Progressive, Metal & even the ladies are acknowledged. Would be nice if this idea Pete; became a reality....putting the true rock acts where they deserve to be....inshrined.

-King Crimson -Ted Nugent -Montrose -The Stooges -New York Dolls -Megadeth -Alice Cooper Group -Grand Funk Railroad -John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers (blues-rock) -Paul Butterfield Blues Band (blues-rock) If I could add more than 10, I'd add Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple, The Kinks, Iron Maiden, Iron Butterfly, Sir Lord Baltimore, and Captain Beyond. Here's my list: Thin Lizzy Blue Öyster Cult King Crimson Jethro Tull Gentle Giant Wishbone Ash Uriah Heep Nektar Renaissance Van Der Graaf Generator I'm not sure that all of my choices have been excluded from the R&RHOF so far but I don't think we should exclude artists from the shrine just because they are in the HOF already, though it's good to first add ones who are less recognized.
Rush, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Yes, Led Zep, Queen and Zappa are already in. Try again. Remember, this is for bands NOT in the R&RHoF and likely never getting in.

In no particular order... Pat Benatar, Pat Travers Band, Triumph, Mahogany Rush, Cheap Trick, Sammy Hagar, Johnny Winter, Whitesnake, Black Crowes, and Rick Derringer!
My personal list, aside from the obvious ones already mentioned. #1. Dead Kennedys/Jello Biafra (either one, legends) #2. Aphrodite's Child (how cool would THAT be???!!) #3. Buffalo (some of the heaviest rock and metal to come out of the early 70s) #4. Manfred Mann's Earth Band (and not for Blinded By the Light, the deep cuts kill) #5. Wishbone Ash (easy no-brainer) #6. Robin Trower (another no-brainer) #7. Pantera (gotta have the Cowboys from Hell in my top 10) #8. Suzie Quatro (get her in there) #9. Elliott Smith (beloved by anyone who's ever heard his music, brilliant guitarist too) #10. Slipknot (ultimate middle finger to the anti-metal crowd)
I'll not include Priest, Motorhead & Lizzy as all in the mix for RRHOF 2020 although they are all trailing Dave Matthews, Pat Benatar, Doobie Brothers & Soundgarden unfrotunately. So my ten split into rock (Whitesnake/Rainbow/Bad Company/Free/UFO/Scorpions) metal (Maiden/Megadeth/Dio) prog (King Crimson)
Number 1 has to be Blue Oyster Cult. Others: Rory Gallagher, Jethro Tull, Nils lofgren, Horslips, U.F.O., T. Rex, Roxy Music, Warren Zevon & I'm sure nobody is going to mention, this one: Graham Parker & The Rumour but seeing them live in the 70's was something I'll never forget.

hi, pete noticed you didn't mention jazz-rock fusion, would you consider that category for induction ?? some of those artists are pretty heavy and lean kind of strongly towards the rock side of jazz-rock ( jeff beck, Al dimeola, dixie dregs, 11th house, mahavishnu, brand x, return to forever ) to name a few. my #1 vote would definitely be porcupine tree, as far as progressive rock I feel as though they were the most important band to emerge out of that genre in the last 25 or so years.
Perhaps...remembers, this is all for fun and just a great discussion point!
@@seaoftranquilityprog definitely, please pursue this project, I think it could be huge, really important in getting on with the re-emergence of real, actual ROCK music.....and oh yes, definitely fun !!

@@integrity101 No.
Iommi is Sabbath
@@metalwarrior81
Yea, that's what all the brain dead *sheep* say.
@@integrity101 Lol, a brain dead sheep is someone who only accepts the original lineup.
Black Sabbath would be nothing without Iommi's riffs. Deal with it.

4. Styx
5. Rainbow
6. Scorpions
7. UFO
8. Supertramp
9. King Crimson
10. ELO
Great idea, Pete!
I'm sorry! Are none of the bands you mentioned in the Rock and roll Hall of Fame??? You must be kidding!
Nope, not one of them.
The first 10 I would induct would be automatic shoe-ins....no ifs, and, or buts about it:
1] NAZARETH
2] APRIL WINE
3] BLUE OYSTER CULT
4] BOSTON
5] FRANK MARINO AND MAHOGANY RUSH
6] THIN LIZZY
7] MOUNTAIN
8] SUPERTRAMP
9] KANSAS
10] CAMEL
1. Foghat
2. Grand Funk Railroad
3. Humble Pie
4. Triumph
5. Foreigner
6. Dio
7. Free
8. Brownsville Station
9. Styx
10. Thin Lizzy
Jethro Tull
Emerson Lake Palmer
Judas Priest
Thin Lizzy
Motorhead
Kansas
Primus
King Crimson
Camel
Boston
What an excellent idea; so many bands worthy of induction e we I’ll never make it to the HOF. It is time to find an alternative do great bands get the recognition they deserve.
Greetings from Columbus, Ohio..love the Shrine of Excellence Idea. My top 10...I don't know who is in the HOF and I don't care so my list is like starting from scratch. In no particular order:
1. The Beatles 2. Led Zappelin 3. Yes 4. Ramones 5. Devo 6. Pink Floyd 7. KIng Crimson 8. Porcupine Tree 9. Captain Beefheart. 10. Frank Zappa .
still got a t shirt from Isle of Wight Fest 1970 (the jimi one) AND a ticket stub (i didnt pay to get in !!) plus the original psychedelic programme with the line up for each day.
I'll donate it,but only to the LONDON rock museum.
My friends and I started doing this about 10 years ago. My 10 in no particular order are:

2.Slayer
3.Anthrax

CANT WE HAVE BANDS THAT ARE IN ALREADY..... THE CORRECT ROCK BANDS, ZEP, FLOYD, SO INCLUDE THE GREAT ROCK BANDS ALREADY,,,, EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE IN.... YOU GOTTA HAVE YOUR PURPLE IN THERE, AND BE SIDED BY SIDE WITH YOUR OVERLOOKED BANDS..... WHAT DO YOU THINK. WE CANT NOT HAVE BLACK SABBATH....YES. RUSH, BUT I LOVE IT.......START WITH 20 SOLID SHOE INS,,, THEN LIZZY, OOH DUDE...UFO.... MONTROSE, STYX ECT.
brilliant idea pete...my 10 would be
1. Kansas
2.Nazareth
3.Magnum
4.Rainbow

Thin Lizzy
Blue Öyster Cult
King Crimson
Jethro Tull
Gentle Giant
Wishbone Ash
Uriah Heep
Nektar
Renaissance
Van Der Graaf Generator
I'm not sure that all of my choices have been excluded from the R&RHOF so far but I don't think we should exclude artists from the shrine just because they are in the HOF already, though it's good to first add ones who are less recognized.
Grand Funk
Steppenwolf
Captain Beyond
Bang
Vanilla Fudge
Saxon
The Godz
Amboy Dukes
Tank
Blue Cheer
Notes From The Underground
I am 65 years of age and LOVE your taste.
1. The Outlaws
2.BOC
3.Black Crows
4. Marshall Tucker Band
5. Atlanta rhythm section
Rush, Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Yes, Led Zep, Queen, Zappa, Ramones, King Crimson
Rush, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Yes, Led Zep, Queen and Zappa are already in. Try again. Remember, this is for bands NOT in the R&RHoF and likely never getting in.

5. .38 Special
6. Daniel Band
7. Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble
8. George Thorogood & The Delaware Destroyers

Great idea Pete. Why not contact contact guys like Eddie Trunk, USA rock radio stations etc, Classic Rock magazine & Planet Rock here in the UK etc. Maybe a collective/collaborative input could produce something?

Great idea, but lost me on the NYC part. As an Ohian, I'd take Cleveland over that any day- the land alone would be far more expensive in NYC.
In no particular order... Pat Benatar, Pat Travers Band, Triumph, Mahogany Rush, Cheap Trick, Sammy Hagar, Johnny Winter, Whitesnake, Black Crowes, and Rick Derringer!
My personal list, aside from the obvious ones already mentioned.
#1. Dead Kennedys/Jello Biafra (either one, legends)
#2. Aphrodite's Child (how cool would THAT be???!!)
#3. Buffalo (some of the heaviest rock and metal to come out of the early 70s)
#4. Manfred Mann's Earth Band (and not for Blinded By the Light, the deep cuts kill)
#5. Wishbone Ash (easy no-brainer)
#6. Robin Trower (another no-brainer)
#7. Pantera (gotta have the Cowboys from Hell in my top 10)
#8. Suzie Quatro (get her in there)
#9. Elliott Smith (beloved by anyone who's ever heard his music, brilliant guitarist too)
It needs to be held in Springfield
Number 1 has to be Blue Oyster Cult. Others: Rory Gallagher, Jethro Tull, Nils lofgren, Horslips, U.F.O., T. Rex, Roxy Music, Warren Zevon & I'm sure nobody is going to mention, this one: Graham Parker & The Rumour but seeing them live in the 70's was something I'll never forget.
Is punk rock and alternative rock included?
punk 'rock' and alternative 'rock'...I think you answered your own question!
Wow. I like your picks.
