    I was so touched, Garry, how you inadvertently got into flying. A real beaut story! Thanks Bobby and Laura for sharing the stories with the folks you meet, as you always do. Thanks so much. You seem to enjoy and channel ( pardon the pun!) both aviation and sailing - so it kinda fits my bill big-time.

    At 6:30 he is incorrect, you can work on an experimental without an A&P. You will need one for the yearly conditional inspection only.

    • @BobPritchard
      @BobPritchard 5 лет назад +6

      But I think he said he is not the original builder. It's my understanding only the original builder gets the repairman certificate.

    • @zmatt
      @zmatt 5 лет назад +4

      @@BobPritchard You only need the repairman certificate to sign off the annual conditional inspection.

    • @markh672
      @markh672 5 лет назад +5

      Bob Pritchard
      True, there’s only one repairman certificate that’s ever issued to an experimental aircraft, but it has nothing to do with “repairing”...or doing any maintenance on the aircraft. The name “repairman’s certificate” is definitely misleading...I think it should be called something like the “condition inspection” certificate. So, if you didn’t build the airplane there’s only two people that can sign off on the annual condition inspection...1. The original holder of the repairman’s certificate and 2. An A&P. But once again, if it’s your airplane and you’re confident enough in your own mechanical skills, then you have every right to do as much work as you like on your airplane.

    • @munroeje
      @munroeje 4 года назад +2

      I was going to say the same. He can most definitely perform work on that plane. I upgrade my RV-6 quite often and I'm the fourth owner. Just get the A&P to sign off your yearly Condition Inspection.

    Just a minor niggle on his comments regarding who can do maintenance. Anyone can do maintenance on an experimental. It’s only the annual condition inspection where either the original builder’s repairman certificate or an A&P is required.

  • @dbcrn859

    Why would anyone want to spend over ten times the cash buying an aircraft by large manufacturers that go far slower than a good used RV8, have far less economy and cost a fortune to maintain? This and other Vans aircraft are the true common man's aerial transport. Lovely aeroplane. Beautiful landscape to fly over. Thumbs up!

      They are great airplanes. Vans makes an RV for pretty much everything. We have the RV-10 and love it. It works perfectly for our family of 4. If you want to do aerobatics there’s an RV for you, if you want a family plane there’s an RV for you, and the whole RV series performs amazingly.

One clarification on the maintenance rules, with Experimental Amateur Built aircraft, anyone can do any maintenance activity on the plane but a person must hold a repairman certificate for the plane or be an A&P to sign off the annual condition inspection. i've been looking at getting an airplane, been licensed for a long time but the price to rent (not to mention the hassle) is too high, I'd rather have my own plane, and why not just get a RV? they are awesome, fast, use Lycoming engines (unless you want the 12, which uses a Rotax), so it just makes sense. Vans makes quality, safe, and fast airplanes. This video confirms everything I've been thinking. If I'm gonna spend 50 grand on a plane, this is where I'd want the money to go. But I think I'd go with the 10, and have 4 seats.

      The RV-10 is a beauty but you'll pay a lot more than $50k...and it's not going to have an io-360.

    Why is there a landing gear retract switch and lights when it's a fixed gear plane?

      They guy that built it didn’t want to get out of the habit of the GUMPS check and putting the gear down.

    I wish a T206HD would cruise at 175, fat chance. As for the video, beautiful day for flying. Just beautiful !
