Improved clinch knot is what i use 95% of the time! And i too always test my knot just to be sure. I rarely ever use just a normal clinch knot anymore. Can work ok on thick line but why chance it. Fish on!

is there a secret tip here that there is no need to fish deeper than 6ft? or how do you fish deeper pools? (alternate sink tip rod?)

Thanks for the video. This is slightly off-topic, but could you tell me how you rig beads? And, if you were fishing small beads (say 6mm), what model and size hook would you use?

I use a mostly 8 mm beads and run 2 kind of hooks. A snelled gami black #6-8 or a tmc2499sp-bl. In #8-10. It’s a great wide gap barbless. Hook that is very light so it drifts well but still strong enough for bulltrout in theb8-10lb class.

Tippet rings are expensive though. Seems like a nice leader setup regardless.

Forgive me if this is an obvious question, im an indicator rookie. What section do you run the indicator on? Brilliant description of west coast nymphing. Also, this set up is a 'no go' in fly only sections, correct?
    Thanks Matt.

When fishing the ideal 4-6ft water the indicator goes in the 20lb or the two tone. You can fish shallower with it in the 4x but it is not common.
Yes this is a no go in a fly fishing only reg. But all good in a artificial fly only reg. Look up the definition of the regulations if in doubt.

No. You can use this in fly only areas with either a barbless fly or bead and single hook.

Right. It’s designed for a split shot. And that is illegal in fly fishing only regs. If I were fishing it without I would do 4x straight to fly. No need for last split ring.

If you use a jadacator you won’t need the two toned line to see what’s going on. The indicators action will tell you.

The idea is that when you are fishing close - but not close enough to high stick. You will be able to see the direction of the line under the indicator. The water on top is not always the same as what’s underneath. Many times it looks as though you have a good drift but the line is dragging under the indicator. The two tone helps you see this. You will also see rock bumps and strikes earlier.
