Interlingua Vs Neolatin: Unite the ROMANCE LANGUAGES??? 🇵🇹 🇪🇸 🇫🇷 🇮🇹 🇷🇴

  • There is a lot of confusion online about what Interlingua really is. This video discusses Interlingua and compares it to a seemingly similar, but very different language: Neolatin (Romance Neolatino).
Neolatin (Romance Neolatino) is a Pan-Romance language or a zonal auxiliary language (like Interslavic) that unites Romance languages into one standard. This is contrast with languages like Esperanto and Interlingua because Neolatin tries to be as natural as possible and only focuses on communication within a single group of languages (Romance languages, such as Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, Romanian, and Catalan). Neolatin, to some degree, is more of a dialect rather than a wholly new language because it conserves all the verb tenses and conjugations from traditional Romance languages, with multiple options of vocabulary.

🇬🇧 🇺🇸 Interlingua is European with heavy Romance and Latin influences. *Neolatin is Romance without compromise.* Since the field of auxiliary languages is so oversaturated with projects of a Romance appearance, people never give Neolatin a chance. Interlingua, Occidental/Interlingue (European), Elefen/Lingua Franca Nova (Romance Creole), Latino sine flexione (literally a simplified version of Latin): *none of these languages are Pan-Romance.*
I have so many unfinished projects that I cannot share with you because I keep having to spend my time justifying Neolatin in the face of countless comparisons. If you're interested in learning Neolatin, I invite you to join the community and to follow my channel for tutorials. Thank you.
Gracias.

The only thing I really dislike is the section where you mention "Extra" and "Ex". It's counter-intuitive, which sucks for an auxiliary language, and in those two particular examples there was a modern romance word shared by almost every language. I like that in general it feels more natural than Interlingua but does it have a bias towards classical Latin?

Indeed, Occidental even has articles about how it's not a pan-Romance language (one is even outright called "Occidental ne es pan-romanic": occidental-lang.com/cosmoglotta/nro/B-022.html#doc-172)
I think you'll agree with this line from the article:
      > Pro to noi Occidentalistes nequande di que Occidental *es* romanic, ma que Occidental have *aspect* romanic. E aspect e essentie ne posse ni deve esser confuset.
(For those who can't read it: "Because of that, we Occidentalists never say that Occidental *is*, Romance, but that it has a Romance *aspect*. And aspect and essence cannot and should not be confused with each other.")
Ironically, it happens to be a great language to learn for anyone who wants to get into Romance languages. It just isn't Romance itself.

Just like you, I'm a native Portuguese speaker who also speaks Spanish and French. I don't speak Italian, but I can understand it when I listen to (probably due to association of words and phonetics with both, Spanish and French). And also just like you, I had a basically perfect understanding of it. Imagine if the countries speaking Romance languages include it in the children education curriculum. We would easily overtake the English language as the main international language, I guess.

As a Romanian, i must say the language is very much understandable. Unfortunately i didn't understand everything like my other latin brothers, mostly due to Slavic influences over my language, but what i didn't understand can very much be understood if i associate the word with another word from my language or analyze the overall context of the sentence.

You have to understand that it's not Slavic influence only at play. Mostly, Slavic influence is low. Western Romance languages are not "more latinic", in fact the opposite is true. They have a lot of Germanic influence, that has become so normalized we think of it as a latinic trait. Besides, they have a strong Celtic substratum. Romania, on the other hand, is only 15% Slavonic or Slavic-derived.

I thought It was Rioplatense since they have italian influence, then I was thinking it was italian. It seems as easy as spainsh? but has the italian sound which I love. Italian seems a lot harder then spainsh to me, but my spainsh helps carry it. If neolatin had more resources I'd probably drop my italian for it.

Liked your enthusiasm. I speak Portuguese, Spanish and Italian. So, I understood you 100%. When I read Interlingua for the first time it took me 15 min to get it. I was in search of a pan Romance language, I didn’t know Neolatin until see this video, yes it seems closer the way we Romance language speakers are used to. But in a way, Interlingua does the same job with a proposal of being truly international and based on Latin vocabulary since English has 60% of it, and technical language is based on Latin. The only thing that I would add to Interlingua is the subjunctive form, I was checking in the internet while writing this comment, I found a short Interlingua grammar that includes 7 different verb forms, it seems this was not well spread. For me, having an international language based on Latin roots is the ideal outcome, and with a simplified grammar, that would be attractive for no Latin based language speakers to invest learning it.

    • @pablorodriguez6577

The subjuntive form is totally possible in a neolatin lenguage, but the speaker seem forget It. For exemple:
Illu EST (=It IS, indicative latin form), illu SIT (subjuntive latin form of "essere", to be), and so the other verbs.

Esperanto and English have a fair amount of words with Romance origin. 60 % of Esperanto vocabulary is Romance (30 % is Germanic, 10 % is of other language groups), 50 % of English is (I believe). I liked Interlingua precisely because it is simplier to learn and be understood for English and French speakers. You can clearly see that the people who advocate for adding person declensions to interlingua haven't understood the objective of Interlingua. Many of them watched this video and didn't even pay attention. Of course if you're Italian, Spanish or Portuguese you'd find verb conjugations quite easy. Interlingua is not made specifically for you guys. This video precisely answers why...

Gratias!

Particularment he entès el neollatí sense problema i hi he trobat certa bellesa. Gràcies pel vostre treball. Crec que el català manté una posició molt centrada dins la Romània i podria haver ajudar a consolidar un estàndar simple i general.
