  • Decades after his original nomination went missing, one of the first Black members of the Army's elite Green Berets will receive the Medal of Honor. Catherine Herridge originally reported on this two years ago, and caught up with Ret. Col. Paris Davis as he reacts to his new honor.

Deepest Honor and Respect to you, Ret. Col. Paris Davis.
What you did for your fellow countrymen when you were called to account is genuine Love in action.
You and the pilot(s) and Medical are directly responsible for the ability for two men to have a future to live and their a Loved Ones to have hope.
You deserved recognition then as did many others deserving of praise. You were a victim of hate.
Now you are about to collect your very delayed appreciation from your now grateful Country.
Monuments are to be created for people such as yourself. I really hope your hometown will do that for you as well because what you did in that moment was extraordinaryas testified to by the gentleman in this clip.
All the best to you and yours!

Colonel Paris Davis (born 6 May 1939) is a retired United States Army officer who has been approved to receive the Medal of Honor in 2023 for his actions on 18 July 1965 during the Vietnam War. *He was twice previously nominated for the Medal of Honor, but both times the paperwork relating to his nomination disappeared.* Davis, then a Captain with the 5th Special Forces Group, was instead awarded the Silver Star. He subsequently commanded the 10th Special Forces Group. Source Wikipedia

@@MISNM0 Waugh was in the 10th Special Forces Group in Germany with the famous Larry Thorne. After that, he served in Vietnam in "regular" SF and the top secret MACV-SOG. He joined the CIA paramilitary group after the war. He's mentioned in some SOG books and has his own Wikipedia page. He's a real badass, as were most Vietnam-era Green Berets and all SOG guys.

Thank god CBS tried to make this about race. Soldiers have done a lot more and got a silver star for it. They weren't black so no upgrade for them. Saving a life is great but if they gave a MOH for everyone in the military that saved a life in combat you wouldn't be able to throw a rock and not hit one. Race had nothing to do with him not getting a MOH he simply didn't earn that level of award in the commands mind. He did get a award that's how they found this guy and upgraded his award to a MOH. Just another leftist political move. By the way he wasn't the first black man to receive a MOH so that entire race thing is moronic.

The Green Berets were held in high esteem at the time, even during an unpopular war. There was a hit record by Sgt. Barry Sadler, then a movie starring John Wayne. I suspect you weren't alive then, or you would know that.
