- Quick video showing how to change front brake pads on G8x BMW M3 and M4, in this video EBC yellow stuff pads were installed
Torque spec for caliper nuts is 95 nm and it is recommended to use new nuts each time.
Part number for nuts- 34112284399
i have since torqued mine to spec
For reference, the two caliper nuts need to be tightened to 95 Nm or 70 lb-ft
Thank you, i have it in the description also 👍🏻
Good video bro, just be safe placing your legs under the rotor while the cars up in the air. I usually place an old tire/tim under just in case. Maybe I watch too much final destination!
I will most likely change my breaks on my own as well just because it is a simple job. And I can make sure I clean the caliper as well. Mine are squealing like a stuck pig now after 15k miles
Yes the squeaking is so annoying, i ended up selling the car for a few reasons, that was definitely one of them. They still squeaked with the ebc yellow pads. I hear the carbo tech ones are the quietest
You think it's the same for the F90 m5 pre lci. I want to try to do it but I've never dealt with bmw just Srt .which I longer own. I'm basically new to BMW again
Its probably very similar but im not 100% sure
My G80 oem pads have been squealing like crazy since car was new. After 6,000 miles of ownership, I discovered -- the brake squeal completely disappears -- after pressure washing the front and rear rotors/pads for a few mins per corner...be sure to concentrate the nozzle where the pad mates with the rotor. Blowing out the rotors/pads with pressurized air every few weeks could help too (Results may vary.)
My theory is the oem pads are very aggressive, they wear quickly due to the cross-drilled rotors, the accelerated dust build-up of metal particles (from the rotor) fills in the grooves of the pads, and the iron deposits rubbing against the rotors cause the screeching.
U gotta go 80 90 and hit the breaks hard and repeat the process then the rust and squeal will go a way for a bit
so a couple of questions: 1. Why did you switch pads? Noise, dust or performance. 2. Please confirm you had jack stands underneath the car and not just the jack? 3. What other brake pads did you consider? 4. How many miles on the OEM pads? Thanks for your response.
1. I switched pads 90% for noise 10% for dust
2. Yes definitely had jack stands, just couldn’t see from the camera angle 😃
3. I originally wanted ebc red stuff bc i heard they had less dust and noise than yellow stuff. These pads still squealed really bad. I hear the carbo tech brake pads are the only ones that are actually quiet
4. I had right around 300 miles on the oem pads
Thanks for your comment! I hope this helps!
@@FLManGarage Thank you kind sir...thumbs up and s. Drive safe...
Thank you! You too! 😃
I miss the days of popping the pins and spring then sliding the pads out …. Ugh. Thanks for the video!
You and me both!
Thank you! I did my F80 M3 brakes and rotors before I traded it in and it was easy. This looks a little intimidating especially the back😊.
I'd strongly advise against putting grease on the edges of the backplate. If any of that migrates onto the disc you'll contaminate the pads and that can lead to all sorts of problems: judder, noise, you name it. You should never need grease on the sides of any backplate, and especially not on a brand new vehicle such as this where everything will slide perfectly well and does not need 'lubrication'.
I assure you that if you reset the pistons even a little, the pads would be easier to align the pins instead of prying on them with a flat head. I understand you said the original pads were like new but resetting the pistons would make it a breeze and less chance of damaging pad material
how do you reset the pistons?
@@berzerker4998 good question, safe to just press them in, like in a single piston 335i caliper? Maybe use the old pads as the pressure plate...
What was this for to stop squeaky breaks or to show how to do your brakes.
Both i suppose, but these ended up still squeaking. I ended up selling the car
@@FLManGarage damn I need these squeaky breaks gone lol
They are so bad!
@@FLManGarage I got red stuff brake pads put in no more squeak and less dust way better
I have heard those are much better!
Great vid 👌 👍 👏
Thank you!
video was good but u skipped the whole plate pressing against the back of the pads at the end. If that clip not line up correctly the caliper presses against the clip causing the brakes to not work and feel like air in the system . Happen to me i bled 10 times and and abs flus and couldnt figure it out until i checked the calipers for leaks and saw the clip bent
can you elaborate more? what timestamp part should he have started explaining it? I can see at 4:09 it's not fully resting against the caliper, is that what you're talking about?
How many miles did you get on your factory brake pads?
Less than 500
@@FLManGarageI just ordered IS1500 pads… hoping they do the trick.
no need to move the caliper pins back (sorry if thats the wrong wording)? Thanks for the tutorial!
if your pads are low, might have to, these pads were virtually brand new
Did that eliminate that annoying squeak for the g80 brakes from the factory ?
It helped a lot, but no it still squealed from time to time. I hear isweep are the quietest brake pads
Hi, new to the G80. What happen with the OEM pads? Thanks
They squeak incredibly loud. Its very annoying
@@FLManGarage and warranty?
Has anyone tried the EBC red stuff pads? How’s that compared to yellow stuff pads?
Good luck getting them - fronts are backordered everywhere and all shop etas are from EBC and been pushed back for several months
careful with ur address showing not sure if u care or maybe just accidently had it showing but weirdos do exist
I did not realize! Thank you
Did these work out? I saw in g80 post they were loud after a month.
They are better than stock, but yes they are still loud as shit
Appreciate the video, will definitely give it a try.
What size are your calipers
Bro thanks for this - full send next weekend
and another one
Where did you get the pads?
I have a G80 and the brakes drive me absolutely crazy. The constant squealing is insane. Why did you decide on the yellow stuff pads and do you still have no squealing after a month or so? Do your new pads create less dust? Thanks for the videos.
Yess the squeal is so bad for oem. I went with yellowstuff as there are not many options available yet and i read good things on the forums. These new pads still squeaked like crazy for the first 500 miles. Now they are much quieter than oem. Still squeal occasionally. I hear carbo techs are better with the least dust and noise. But more expensive.
These pads id say are 70% better in the noise category. Maybe 40% better in dust category. They still produce a lot of dust.
However, they do provide more braking power compared to oem, if that is important to you
I went with the isweep street compound on my g80 m3. Replaced fronts and rears. Zero noise and almost no brake dust. Best thing I did for the car. Over 1k miles since install and still zero noise.
@@technology_now I have the G82 M4 Comp. Would the pads you used work on that as well and if so can you provide a link or the model # of the ones you are using. Really appreciate it as the squeaking is nutz. Thnx
@@FLManGarage My G82 M4 is squealing like crazy too but before buying new the pads I'm considering just removing the existing pads and cleaning them with Liqui Moly anti-squeal spray and paste which is only around 30 quid on eBay. Is it worth me using this product or would I be wasting my time?
@@rahimk687 i would imagine the grease will help temporarily, but i would think the squealing will return.
Even after doing this swap, the pads still squeal from time to time.
do i need to do it for all of the pads or just the front?
Fronts make the majority of the noise. But backs also squeak
do you have to put the car in service mode? did you have to push in the pistons? it doesnt seem like you did
No not on the front. Maybe if the pads were really worn down you may have to push the pistons back. But in my case the oem pads were like new
@@FLManGarage thanks for the reply and video!
Great step by step video! Thanks. One suggestion is to torque the bolts to spec. I made the mistake of not doing that a few years ago.
Thanks! Yes i have since torqued to spec, thanks for the reminder, i will add the specs to the description
What are the torque specs?
95nm its in the description
I have carbon ceramics on my g80, could I install steel rotors and pads ?
Possibly but why would you want to do that?
@@dannylakatos559917k for rotors and pads lol I track frequently so it wouldn’t be worth it for me, I’m at 30k miles and they’ll need replacing soon
@@chump6219 OOF...You should check around for a CCB Steel Conversion Rotor set. It will be a different width than Stock Steels. I think CCBs calipers a bit wider due to disc width vs steel.
