That opening riff was simple, but the same kind of simple when you start to optimize their details in any art by cutting down the fluff and unnecessary stuff to have exactly what you want to be there, nothing more, nothing less, and it was very smooth!I loved that beat.
Appreciate Video clip! Apologies for chiming in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you thought about - Riddleagan Smart Hands Remedy (search on google)? It is a good exclusive product for learning piano fast minus the normal expense. Ive heard some super things about it and my old buddy Taylor at very last got excellent success with it.
Very nice. Probably the best getting started explanation I've seen yet. Makes it simple and obvious, so we can start to internalize the process. Usually there's a jump that eludes us. Now i see it how to proceed without feeling overwhelmed...
Beautiful! Your improvisation videos are my favorites! They're full of notions and ideas... by the way it's great how diminished arpeggio works on the dominant... wow! Thanks a lot!
The first time I watched this I had no idea in mind but on improvising out of nowhere without an even decent amount of mode knowledge. But now that I know the modes on each scales, I understand this lesson now and it help me broaden again my horizon in jazz playing. Thank you.
Simon u r the best teacher hands down. After taking lessons on &off 4 six years ,I have learned so much from you in about one year .your the best. Tom Burkhardt
This was an awesome video and saved it to come back to tonight. I had a big cringe, though, when he said smash that like button. I hope that trend has fizzled out. I haven't heard it in awhile.
I never thought I was going to like any video on jazz OR improvisation, but I really enjoyed this and I even put myself to work on it! Both thumbs up to you!
Brilliant lesson, Simon!! I don't know what's wrong with those thumb downers. I love the way you present your lessons, breaking it down slowly and showing us the notation as well. Love your enthusiasm, too. Well done and keep them coming! Thanks so much.....
Thanks again, luv your videos, still a struggling piano player even though I have been playing on and off most of my life (i am 76). Just luv improvising, I have one of your backing tracks on a usb stick plugged in the back of my piano, just luv it. Must have lost the link somewhere when upgrading my computer. Chris.
Finally! I have been stuck on step 2 literally for months haha Really looking forward to experiment with these exercises. Really appreciated, thank you! Sorry for the noobie question but how could I find on step 5 which scale to use in each different occasion?
You just have to follow to main scale. Because 2-5-1 is always minor7-dominant7-major7(or min7) and the modes of each chord is dorian-mixolyd-ionian or aeolian but aeolian is too sad for jazz, so they use dorian because it's just one note different on scale :) cmiiw
What I do is play the scale a bunch of times and just see what mood I want. It al depends on you! That’s one of the key factors that make pianists different
I was wondering how or where I can start to learn how to play with hip hop or RnB. I do ot know a thing about piano but it looks so cool when you explain with the visual and the drums in the background. I would like to learn to do that.
Nice lesson, very clear and easy to follow. Gave me some ideas for tasty licks as well! Mixing in 2 different notes once in a while, an octave "trill", short phrase call and response, all good stuff.
@@Piano_Pig yes sir...... I saved it to my list, until I get a piano for rehearsals... I have recommended this channel to my piano friends ... And they find it useful... Thanks for sharing
This has blown my mind. Are you effectively doing a key change with every chord change? Because with your right hand you’re playing notes in different keys with each chord change. Not familiar with blues music but I’ve always thought of improvisation as being in a single key, and all the chords and right hand melody fit in with that single key.
that was a lot of info, and pretty useful, but I have one question. why you picked these scales for each chord ? Over which idea should I pick scales for chords I'm improsiving over ? if anybody knows I'd love to hear :)
An absolutely amazing lesson, I love it. Is there an explain why we call the chord Gm9 and skip the G note as theory, I understand there is the chord flat 7, 9, 3m, 5, , but what gives the name of the chord?? I think I auto respond me cause the pentagram shows two flats... E and B xd but what to know if is correct or are more....
Thanks for the great video! Is there a follow up to this video on how to have distinct sections like intros, or bridges in an improvisation piece? Or should one follow the regular chord progression conventions for songwriting and improvise a melody on top for each section?
Hey Simon! Thanks for sharing all this great content with us! Would you mind sharing with me the video/program set up you use to capture your video to display what you are playing for us?
Thank you very much for the effort you put in the video! It is really helpful and it comes in time! I have a question: In step 5, how do I know the G Dorian Scale goes with Gm9, not other scales? Could some professionals answer my question? Thanks again!
I did first two steps, just I would really like to know how to build these chords you use to improvise with, etc. Could anyone give me advice where can I find such information so I could learn?
Loved ur vid! (will i be able to master all of these in 2 days 😂. I've got a school competition coming up and I'm a beginner pianist cuz I somehow deicided to try jazz piano even tho im a classical player. )
After my 35 year hiatus away from the keyboard, your lessons are inspirational. Many thanks!
Thanks great to know! keep it up 🙂
