    As a decades long Duran Duran fan (first concert 2/2/1984 in Seattle - and at least 20 more) I can attest that I have seen dozens of "Sing Blue Silver" tattoos on fans throughout the years at concerts. The simple reason is - Simon LeBon's voice is absolutely perfect when he sings this part of this song (2xs). Absolutely classic, memorizing Simon voice in it's prime. While the video is Duran Duran brilliance, it often distracts some from the incredible lyrics and Simon's voice at his ultimate best! Sing Blue Silver!

    I think this is my favorite Duran Duran song from the time I bought this album the week it was originally released. It easy to hear that it is a well done and unique song overall and yes it is a vibe but...
    I honestly think unless you lived in that time at a certain age (about my age) it's really hard to get a full measure of this vibe. In a way the visuals and the music itself somehow capture the actual feel of the early through mid to late 80's in a tiny little vignette so so well. The video was definitely inspired by the song and especially the wardrobe/vibe/etc is far more how the 80's felt in terms of a certain demographic I guess.
    The only other bands/songs I can think of that do something very very similar without at all being documentary but capture the way that era just FELT with a very strange combination of decadent exuberance combined with a tiny bit of foreboding and a pinch of bittersweetness...
    Possibly the strange album released in the mid 80's by Deep Purple which had been sorta retired for a while prior to that. And believe it or not... The Bangles hazy shade of winter captured that same vibe... I guess you'd have to live it to get it the same way. It's not specific in the words/lyrics, it's the totality of it.
    Hard to put into a few words but in a way it was a very strange mix of a decade in so so many ways. Especially for those coming of age into adulthood throughout it.

    • @billcooper4525
      @billcooper4525 2 года назад +1

      As someone who was coming of age at that time, I couldn’t have said it any better. There’s no easy way to describe what the world was like at that time, but I’m so glad to have experienced it.

    Awesome song, puts me in a trance, the video is confusedly, beautifully artistic - and with your aesthetic appreciation for Duran Duran, bass and Simon's vocals the heartbeat and spirit of the track itself... THANK YOU so much for reacting to this video!!! I was so excited last week when you heard the song on the album. This video was released almost 40 years ago and it is so mind blowing how ahead of their time Duran Duran were with their visuals and music. Both still stand the test of time. As you can imagine, this video was not shown on MTV (either was the the night version of Girls on Film). The only way to see these was to rent them at the video store. Duran Duran were the first to feature models in their videos, especially so extensively throughout their career. My personal favorite is Girl Panic, which includes supermodels Naomi Campbell, Yasmin Le Bon (Simon's gorgeous wife) Cindy Crawford, Helena Christensen and Eva Horzigova. It's a MUST wear full glam reaction - make up, wig, everything.

    Duran Duran is my all-time favorite band. This song is about a woman who is heartless and I only say that because of the one line where is says she is smiling as lover part. I love the fact that their music was sometimes a puzzle to solve because it made me think about all the possibilities. In the early days their videos were either very artsy and stylistic or they were in exotic locations. Either way, they had the best videos on MTV and I'm not bias at all, LOL! Some of the more risque' videos, like this one and Girls On Film, were played on MTV's after-hours rotation.

    If you enjoy this darker, esoteric side of Duran Duran you should check out JAPAN, who heavily influenced Duran Duran, in music and style. JAPAN were an English band, starting off in the late 70s as a glam rock style band they soon took on the influences of Roxy Music and Bowie a few years ahead of Duran Duran. JAPAN mistimed their change of style preceding the New Romantic movement and were on the way out when Duran Duran ascended and took the mantle they missed out on.
    This is a track that typifies their more popular sound... "Gentlemen Take Polaroids" was in my opinion their strongest album, of which this was the title track.
