  • When I Played On Sky Sports
    You may or may not know that I once played on the touchtennis tour, I even miraculously made it to the top 5 in the world. Here is a Quarter Final match at a masters event which was actually televised (back in around 2017).
    I thought I’d share it with you as I’m sure zero of you saw it!!!

    I love Touch Tennis. The LTA should promote it far more than Padel.

    I never heard of this sport. The court is so small that on camera, you guys look like you are on top of each other. I do like this over Picklecrap. Seems like you can get a good workout. Thanks.

      I've never heard of this either! This looks insanely fun.
      This is awesome, I bought a can of balls online and some junior tennis racquets, and I'm gonna try and convince some people to play this with me on Pickleball courts and start a revolution! 😂

    Touch tennis is incredibly fun. And if one has ever played against a top class table tennis player, you realise just how well table tennis translates to this! They play it a lot differently with much more spin and angle variety.

    Loved watching you play Ashley ! You started out playing really well and then the level dropped a bit. What role did the mental game play in your performance ?
    Thanks

      Thanks Rui, you’re right, I definitely dropped my level in multiple stages. Looking back, I definitely didn’t give myself enough time to work things out. I went straight from one point to the next without much thought. My opponent was extremely solid and I ended up just going for too much!

    Hi Ashley you seemed very rushed. Especially before your serves. How much time do you have between serves in touch tennis?

    Seems like a lot of fun. I wonder though why they call it touch tennis, since I hardly see any "touch balls". No drop shots, no dropvolleys. Some slice yes, but otherwise. I also expected much more netplay. Since it seems easy to cover the net imo. And the serve seems very op. A big serve on such a small court... To really make it touch tennis I would suggest only under arm serves.
    There is actually less variety in the shot making then in normal tennis.

    • @jerome_morrow
      @jerome_morrow Год назад +4

      Going for a big serve in touch tennis is a double edged sword. Despite its initial speed, the ball slows quickly and can sit up high for an attacking return. Placement into an outside corner is a high chance winner due to limited space, but there are no second serves.

    "Neaves hasn't been in this match at all" the commentator said. While at 2-2 he said something like "there isn't much between them, totally equal match" . Then one break and "Neaves hasn't been in the match at all" 😂

    Seems impossible to pass or lob somebody at the net. I'd try to hit a lot more dropshots and short slices then approach the net.

    • @TheTennisMentor
      @TheTennisMentor  Год назад +2

      Very tough to pass or lob… you just have to hit fast and low when they approach. Approaching the net is a lot tougher than it looks, with the court being so small it’s really tough to react quick enough when your opponent goes big!
