I love that you do older true crime cases rather then the same ones every one else does. It's refreshing and I enjoy hearing about cases I probably would have never heard of. Thank you for the upload, Your videos always relax me. Keep up the good work!

I totally agree, I'm glad that Leah doesn't cover the latest cases because you know full well you wouldn't be watching it because you've heard it from someone else. As in everyone covering the same case at the same time. I find Victorian era cases more interesting anyway

I love all the historical true crime. The same cases are on a lot of channels and true crime podcasts, it just gets tiring. So I love it when you dig deep in with an oldie!

I couldn’t help but find it amusing every time you mentioned their friend, Mary Berry - there is a well known figure in Britain nowadays called Mary Berry who is this sweet 80 year old baker who used to judge a well loved British baking show 😂 I couldn’t imagine her getting caught up in a murder scandal!

Leaaaahhh! I was JUST listening to the Mary Bateman case on your other channel and thinking about when you were going to put out another case like that haha. I can't wait to listen. Also, it *is* a big day for your channel, mug wise. I also have like 3 or 4 mugs that I use on my channel, so a new mug is a huge thing. Love it.

Burden of proof always rests on the prosecution. She may have been guilty, but if the prosecution cannot prove that beyond reasonable doubt, she has to be released… not so much for her sake specifically, but for anyone else in a similar situation who actually IS innocent.
    But she definitely killed him.

This was very intriguing indeed! I’m saying this off the top of my head so it’s probably (at least slightly) wrong but the pre-requisites of motive & means are fulfilled here, as is the ability (which wld obviously have been harder to establish if the guy had been strangled for example). So, as you too pointed out, it’s rather weird that she wasn’t convicted.
I think at the end of the day it was social standing (a wealthy & powerful family vs. a man of lesser means) that saved her from the gallows; one cld even argue that the humiliation of having the intimate details of a love affair revealed in public was punishment enough.
Re what the Criminology professor asked you, are you sure it wasn’t the other way round? That is, is it better to wrongly convict one innocent person than allow 100 guilty persons to go free? A philosophical question that cld be discussed until the cows come home, but at the end of the day, the sad truth of the matter is, if forced to choose, for most the answer wld be yes. Hopefully w increasing forensic methodologies, that type of moral dilemma will become virtually eradicated. Hopefully…
    Thanks Leah!

Ok, so my gut says she was guilty. BUT, playing devil's advocate, imagine she DID buy the arsenic to use as skin treatment, then handled the guy's food and drink, its plausible that she unintentionally poisoned him.
Or, imagine dude knew she used arsenic for skin treatment and was suicidal due to her breaking his heart. Its also plausible that he feigned the first poisoning(s) so that he could tell people she must've tried to poison him, all with the intention of actually poisoning himself a bit later fatally with the intention of her being blamed for it.
Im not saying either of those are more plausible than her poisoning him, but they arent so unbelievable that i would feel comfortable convicting her if I were on the jury.
