I'm 45, work in higher ed as a counselor and can't say enough about JJ and his maturation. I work with students on teaching and coaching how to navigate trauma, adversity, mental health, stress, disabilty, etc. The athletes here at UCLA that I've worked with, I hope take note and emulate what he does. This kid gets it and knows what he wants, he's a leader and driven to succeed. He's everything you hope for in a kid, player and leader. He's him.

Maturation is good buy it comes down to McCarthys experience passing. The Vikings need a qb that can pass 40 times a game not hand the ball off 40 times a game. Let's all hope and pray McCarthy I'd their qb because it's not a given like everyone is saying..🤔🤔

Another point about JJ is that there is zero garbage time or stat padding. They didn’t pass for 400 yards and 6 touchdowns against cupcakes. They would simply grind out the win while JJ sat on the bench to avoid any injuries. They also were never down by three scores passing against prevent defenses. JJs throws were all made with the games outcome still in question, when the results mattered, and with the opponents trying to stop him.

I’m curious about Judd’s take on McCarthy’s footwork and would love to see a source. Game film I’ve watched, scout analysis that I’ve watched, show a guy that moves well in the pocket, has clean footwork and mechanics, and adjusts his body and feet appropriately when throwing on the run or when off platform. I mean, every prospect will need some fine tuning when moving from college to the NFL but I wonder if Judd is conflating McCarthy with Maye. Maye is the QB that needs a redshirt due to footwork and throwing mechanics. Maybe all the guys are starting to blend for him a little bit due to information overload.

Penix took Washington on his back with his passing which is what the Vikings need. PASSING baby PASSING. Penix almost got the national championship with his passing not running like Michigan.

    @intrepidfool Месяц назад +1

QB wins, over a significant sample size, particularly in the salary cap era, is absolutely a relevant stat. Unsurprisingly, the best QBs in history had the best winning percentages. (Again, with a large enough sample size to remove outliers.) It shouldn’t even be an argument. Everyone inherently understands that elite QBs elevate their teams and overcome adversity. This naturally translates into wins. You could take Mahomes and insert him onto any team in the NFL and that team is immediately a Super Bowl contender.
Now, there are plenty of, what I call, “good” QBs that can win games if the talent around them is excellent. These are the guys that lose the important games consistently because they don’t make a difference when the other team is equal or better talent-wise. Guys like Prescott and Cousins. I’d say most of the starting QBs are in the “good” bucket. Herbert with a better supporting cast will win some games but he has proven to not be great or elite.
Then there are the “great” QBs. These guys are worth a win or two and make their team a threat and do enough to compensate for their salary. Allen and Jackson for example. Then there is Mahomres in the elite tier on his own. His very presence makes his team a Super Bowl contender.

If he can handle biz when everyone is hating on him, and we know it’ll happen, that’s when we’ll know he can take us to the promised land. JJ seems like a legit dude. I’m definitely a believer in him! SKOL!

#3 #4 are the reasons I don’t believe reports that the Vikings were okay with Penix. Anticipatory throws over the middle was the weakest part of his game. Pressure was probably next on the list of weaknesses for Penix, especially when moved off his spot.

QB wins in the NFL and QB wins in college are not equal. You can rack up a ton of QB wins in college but not be very good at the NFL level. Maybe not even an NFL player.
QB wins in the NFL are much much more indicative of being a legit NFL QB.

Dennis Green is an offensive mind coach, look what he did to Culpepper. KOC will make JJ McCarthy better and great if they can turn in W and maybe a couple of Super Bowl

something I noticed watching JJ highlights is he's able to change his arm angle to dodge linemen getting in the way of his pass, something that Kirk never was able to figure out or execute

Apparently KOC "loved" at least two QB's in the draft since he would have taken Maye over JJ. I think JJ is the guy, though.

And about Joe Kapp, an outstanding leader who elevated the PPE in 1968 and '69.

The QB wins argument is silly. You can't really make a judgement because you can't know how each QB would have fared on a lesser team over that same career length. In my opinion, leadership is a lot more important than the wins/losses record of any QB.
And the Vikings fans saw that play out with Cousins - very good stats and winning seasons as a Viking, but not the leader the team needed to get it over the playoff hump.

Instead, he says "just because there's an absence of evidence it doesn't mean that the evidence is absent."
      You know I'm right.
