They know how to easily make Core XY printers because its a proven design, so yeah it doesn't take much time or effort to develop their own copies, just takes new tooling to make the parts like the frames and such. But innovation? THAT takes time. Notice how most have also jumped on the AMS bandwagon too? I still would like to see some innovation in terms of printers that are designed around the notion of slight non-planar printing, so like top surfaces could potentially be smoother. Its something that can be done when you tinker with some printers and its not foolproof. But imagine a machine designed from the ground up to be capable of that out of the box with not only a hotend that has good clearance for non-planar printing (maybe a hotend that can angle itself if necessary?) and would need VERY good software that could be able to really tackle that sort of thing. Or, like what Prusa does with their hot-end swapping for multicolor printing, but just way, WAY less expensive than that monster.
They havent combined the filament runout sensor with the extruder, its an old blade switch type like every bedslinger clone, most of these companies spend time and money skinning an old slicer version and then they have to devote resources to upgrading it and maintaining it, It would be much better to just recommend Orca and create a decent profile for it.
They are not direct copies. Each one does something slightly different. They may be Core XY printers and they may look similar to the X1C in some cases, but they are different in detail. The extruder is different, the nozzle is different, in some cases they use just two threaded rods that are driven separately instead of three threaded rods that are driven by one motor. And even if you built a printer that was identical to the X1C, it would take time to get it into production. You need injection moulds for the plastic parts. You need moulds for the aluminium parts, and for the rest you need to find suppliers and negotiate contracts. Bambu Lab did not cobble together the X1C in 6 months, although they had the Voron project and existing Core XY printers, e.g. from Raise3D or Ultimaker, as blueprints. It took them 18 months and they were able to develop behind closed doors because nobody knew they even existed.
Even the bed plate is a Bambu knock off. At least other companies are adding an AMS with a built in filament dryer. Do appreciate being able to get an X1C like machine for less money, we need competition.

Its good to see an enclosed printer with the spool on the side, I would liked to have seen the filament detection combined with the extruder though, it would have been nice to have access to the power switch on the front or side. Also I noticed the side panels were not flush to the frame edges, I guess that have time to fix this though, after all this is a Beta version.
@@AndrewAHayes I feel the people who want power switches anywhere but on the back and to a lesser extent side mounted spools are a very vocal minority that wants the opposite of what most people want. I want the spool holder to be either the AMS or be at the back. I definitely do not want the power switch on the front or sides. I leave my printers on constantky ready for a job. There isn't any point in having the switch be so accessible, only downsides for the vast majority of people.
Now thats competitive. K1 look, Elegoos touch and it looks to be smaller than a P1 frame yet same build volume. I'd love to have a farm of these if they hold up!
for the love of GOD ditch the custom klipper. installing any mods on the Neptune 4 is a complete hassle and its not even like the printer gets any updates to justify a brand specific klipper flavour
I much prefer standard Klipper to hacked and reskinned Klipper, but I use the Fluidd interface in a web browser to manage almost all aspects of my Neptune 4 Pro.
This is very interesting and I intend to keep an eye on how it performs. But I the ~220mm-squared market is already jammed. What we're looking for is 300mm+ core x/y machines.
Just shows how little innovation there is in Chinese companies. Bambulabs being the exception. Look at all these clones. Before this they all just made ender 3 clones.
So many similarities that Elegoo seems to be deliberately marketing this as a Bambu clone. For those who want a less expensive Bambu Lab X1C without the lousy intellectual property issues and Bambu Lab print server (all your designs are belong to us), it looks like Elegoo is the ticket. They seemed to have nailed the user interface. I hope they open source the entire product.
You mentioned the Elegoo Orangestorm Giga. Did you ever get the improvements done on that to get it working? I don't remember seeing a final video on that.
It's funny that peoples are outraged because a chinese company made something similar toother chinese company that didn't discover that but took inspiration form other printers. People core XY printer is not bambu lab invention, they just made good production version of it and sold it.

You mean QIDI for budget printers: the X smart I got for black friday was 190e and max speed is 600mm/s, the Q1 Pro is half price the P1S and it has an heated chamber.

Are you kidding? PIE spring steel plates existed long before Bambu Lab even existed. As far as I know Prusa introduced them with the MK2 in 2016 and Wam Bam offered them for all kinds of printers. And since many of the printers were clones of the Ender 3, they had the same build volume.
@@802Garage Invent what exactly? If you're talking about the advent of space efficient welded steel chassis Corexys without bulky plastic exteriors they certainly popularized that. Then, there is the auto z offset which they were one of the first to use. Creality tried first, but that system was renowned for issues.
The last 10 years were that of i3 clones. The next 10 years will be the era of X1 carbon. Not necessarily the worst thing that could have happened unless it shifts the whole industry to closed source.
When people demand that companies should be innovative, I always ask myself what they expect? For example, should a car manufacturer suddenly develop a flying car because all the other cars are driving on the road? Bambu Lab itself was not as innovative as many people think. Most of what you find in the X1C already existed in the community before. They themselves say that they used many projects from the Voron community as ‘inspiration’.

There are plenty of things that i've had not hear about and are waiting in line to be introduced in 3d printers. Most of the companies were woken up by bambu with quality, and now they are trying to beat bambu with price - but loss in quality/durability is usually unacceptable.
@@anonim1133 The features all sound great, but a company has to present a product that they can sell. At $1500, the X1C is already at the upper limit of what most hobbyists are willing to spend. Plasmics sells for example a inductive hotend for 476€. That is more expensive than a lot of printers on the market. It is really impressiv but I doubt they will sell a lot of units. There is a reason why Bambu Lab released the P1P/S. The X1C is the flagship but I bet they sell a lot more P1 and A1 printers.
My Elegoo Neptune 4 Pro was a constant headache. Its still already but... yeah. Since buying a Bambu Lab P1S I haven't touched it. Even if I wanted it printing side projects the babysitting it requires wouldn't be worth it. So... yeah... not buying anything from Elegoo but the occasional cheap roll of filament.
The design looks an awful lot like my infimech tx . I did not catch the build volume and they way they are not sharing the price I am thinking it is going to be in the PS1 range/!?1? maybe.. I aonly paid 350 for the infimech with upgrades and it has been a workhorse!
Saying the X1 was nothing new is crazy. Why are people so reluctant to admit it when a Chinese company innovates So much of the auto tuning and sensor stuff is new to printers, yet all I see is people saying they didn't invent Corexy as if anyone said they did.

The AMS was also new and so was the form factor for a mass produced printer where previous manufacturer methods involved a lot of bulky plastic or aluminium extrusion. The core of the point that I disproved and disagreed with was that the X1C did nothing different.

The last 10 years were that of i3 clones. The next 10 years will be the era of X1 carbon. Not necessarily the worst thing that could have happened unless it shifts the whole industry to closed source.

These Bambu Carbon looking clones popping up of late almost feel like the echoes of the ~2010's with Makerbot Replicators and all their clones.
When people demand that companies should be innovative, I always ask myself what they expect? For example, should a car manufacturer suddenly develop a flying car because all the other cars are driving on the road?
Bambu Lab itself was not as innovative as many people think. Most of what you find in the X1C already existed in the community before. They themselves say that they used many projects from the Voron community as ‘inspiration’.
@@andreas.grundler inductive heated hotend, temperature/layer time calibration using infrared camera, faster and more reliable multi material system (maybe ams lite iteration with IDEX added), auto flow rate calibration using eddie currents like A1 hotends, 'brick layers' in slicer, variable temprature in slicer, multi axis printers for better overhangs/strength of prints, non planar printing. There are plenty of things that i've had not hear about and are waiting in line to be introduced in 3d printers.
Most of the companies were woken up by bambu with quality, and now they are trying to beat bambu with price - but loss in quality/durability is usually unacceptable.

At $1500, the X1C is already at the upper limit of what most hobbyists are willing to spend. Plasmics sells for example a inductive hotend for 476€. That is more expensive than a lot of printers on the market. It is really impressiv but I doubt they will sell a lot of units. There is a reason why Bambu Lab released the P1P/S. The X1C is the flagship but I bet they sell a lot more P1 and A1 printers.
So a bambu clone that brings nothing new to the market. Great.

My Elegoo Neptune 4 Pro was a constant headache. Its still already but... yeah. Since buying a Bambu Lab P1S I haven't touched it. Even if I wanted it printing side projects the babysitting it requires wouldn't be worth it. So... yeah... not buying anything from Elegoo but the occasional cheap roll of filament.

The design looks an awful lot like my infimech tx . I did not catch the build volume and they way they are not sharing the price I am thinking it is going to be in the PS1 range/!?1? maybe.. I aonly paid 350 for the infimech with upgrades and it has been a workhorse!

So much of the auto tuning and sensor stuff is new to printers, yet all I see is people saying they didn't invent Corexy as if anyone said they did.
@@BeefIngot I have no issue with Chinese companies! Elegoo is one! What was new? Exactly like you said, auto tuning. "Sensor stuff" is not an actual feature I can compare. The basic structure and design of the printer was not innovation. People are calling this a clone based on styling. That's my issue. This Elegoo doesn't even have the auto tuning, so if that was Bambu Lab's innovation, and this printer doesn't even use it, how is it a clone? You're making my point. No hate, but you're pointing out exactly what I'm talking about. Most people calling it a clone, or any other printer, either think Bambu Lab did invent the basic structure and mechanics because they don't know anything about 3D printing history, or they are talking about styling and have only skin deep criticism. What matters is how well the printer performs and what it costs.

Peizos for auto z offset, first layer scanning auto flow and pressure advance calibration were all brand new features.
The AMS was also new and so was the form factor for a mass produced printer where previous manufacturer methods involved a lot of bulky plastic or aluminium extrusion.
The core of the point that I disproved and disagreed with was that the X1C did nothing different.

I was speaking of the printer overall and in context of what most commenters mean when they say "clone" not trying to say there were zero new things that came with the printer. I agree Bambu Lab has innovated and I appreciate what they have done for the industry. I don't hate their printers. I do hate extremely tired and lazy rhetoric which helps nobody and changes nothing. Everyone in the comments parroting the same line about this being a clone is not talking about automatic calibration or even multi-color. They are talking about styling or incorrectly about printer mechanics and it drives me bonkers. That's all. As addressed in the other comment thread though, they also didn't come up with the piezo force sensor use. The AMS was new in its form, but they were not the first to do multi color either. I agree with you it is incorrect to say the X1C did nothing different, but as you have done and as so many do, people give Bambu Lab credit for inventing/innovating/creating features they didn't. Their main complaint for most enclosed core XY printers that come out now being clones is simply that they look like a Bambu Lab printer and to me that's pointless and silly. Often it's not even accurate.
