      I saw that too and made it the video thumbnail!
      In the hundreds of vids I've done, I've never had a lens flare like that! I'd love to think it was a little bit of Amy's spirit stopping by to approve of my playing :-)

      Thanks so much Lorcan!
      I never really think too much about what my style is - it's kinda a big ol' pile of different influences :-)
      In this arrangement, I think there's Marc Ribot, Chet Atkins, and maybe even some Ry Cooder rhythm stuff.

    • @lorcanrowley133
      @lorcanrowley133 5 лет назад +1

      @@EricHaugenGuitar it's because of you that I'm aware of Marc Ribot. I've been a fan of Tom Waits for some time, and particularly the choppy guitar playing on his "Rain dogs" album, but I never considered looking in to who played the guitar on that album until I was introduced to it through your channel. I love how it can sound both choppy and rough around the edges, yet jazzy and sophisticated at the same time. You should check out the theme music from the very funny 90s British sitcom called "Black books". I think that it's theme and all of its soundtrack is very clearly influenced by Marc Ribot's playing. Are you aware of Nels Cline? If so, I'd love to hear your thoughts on his playing, maybe even a video ;)

    • @EricHaugenGuitar
      @EricHaugenGuitar  5 лет назад

      Oh yeah someone told me about that theme song!
      And yeah, Nels has that choppy-jazzy thing going on too! I transcribed one of his more country-ish solos on Wilco's "California Stars": ruclips.net/video/kIom-5lRhR0/видео.html

    For me the day started here. I started practicing along your lesson. Everything was going smooth, until I needed a rest and the words 'marc ribot' would keep bouncing all over the place. I hadn't heard of him, pardon my ignorance, but then I went after his music and fell in love. At first sight. And after this, Ry Cooder. All thanks to you. Now, 5 hours later I'm trying to mix your Ry Cooder right hand technique with Toquinho's 'Tarde em Ituapuã', as I know you're also a Bossa Nova fan, I'm sure you'll know either him or this song. Anyways, I started admiring your playing and arrangement and style and now I'm head over heels different guitarists and genres. All this to say: thank you, Eric. I'm having fun with a guitar for a few weeks after some years of admiring the instrument, but not picking it up. This I owe greatly to you. Cheers!

      Usually I say the chord progression and then fret numbers because I'm trying to split the difference for folks like you who know their notes on the fretboard, and folks who kinda don't. If I said every note I played it would make the tutorial part much more in depth, but also take much more time and I know how impatient people can be :-)
