      Dude, same. My grades are so friggin annoying at this point. The more i focused on school the little my grades went up and the more I focus on art the more my grades drop. I want to pass my classes but it feels really depressing that I can't draw anymore because I felt like that if i were to draw I was wasting time and that i should be doing homework instead. • @miruineko
      @miruineko 3 года назад +15

      Try thinking about what you wanna put on the canvas and not how. It helps a lot. For example instead of trying to imagine how the end result should be, try to figure out what's the message or the elements that should be there. If at the end of the drawing you can recognize everything you tried to achieve in it, than you are good to go! Everything else gets through time.

    This is huge. I haven’t been drawing or painting as much lately, for like a year it seems, and I just feel like my skills have deteriorated. Whenever I do draw I default to doing simple stylized skulls and random faces. And like they’re still much better than my drawings from 3 years ago, but I know that I can do better because I’ve done better. Back when I was doing figure drawing for 6 hours a week and when I tried to do the sketchbook slam challenge, I was drawing for at least an hour each day and I could see the growth in front of me. I just so easily lose the motivation.

      I feel this!! I used to stay up every night after school and do art for hours. when I graduated and got married and moved out and started college my anxiety and depression whooped my ass and school stressed me out so i stopped practicing. My husband has been trying really hard to get me back into it and it took him months but he finally got me back into it after not doing it for almost a whole year and it actually inspired me to want to be an elementary art teacher instead of the “boring” career path i was on that had caused me to stress out and stop drawing in the first place. I’ve been working on a series of cute gnomes as they remind me of my grandpa and drawing cute fun things always used to keep me on track. Hoping this streak of inspiration lasts me for a while! 🥺💖

    I need this☹. [WARNING: LONG POST] I dont know what to do. Art school didnt matter to me but I am majoring in art. And I feel like Ive just been ignoring my own practice for the longest time. Idk what to do. Like how can someone dream of something that they can also ignore? 😔How can one be good at art if they arent dedicated? Im not even impressively good in art but I am only creatively gifted I can never work in a cubicle or in an office.😔And the creative things Im good in such as dance, art, playing instruments and writing. Not saying becoming a doctor isnt competitive but the income for the arts is so difficult if you dont appeal to others because of its competitiveness. And it so happens to be the only things Im good at but because of my depression, lack of attention and love for the things I normally do like art...it worries me about my future. Not saying that my neglection towards art isnt my fault at all. But theres always the question what if im not good enough? What if i dont make it? And what if I wasted my time in these things that will never grant me anything? 😭😭😭

    • @HulloAlice

      I SO understand where you're coming from because I have thought all those things myself recently. How can I love art so much, be so passionate about it, want to fight for it to become my full time job, want to go freelance, yet... not be able to get out of bed and start drawing? not even be able to LOOK at art because it makes me feel so guilty? But.. I want to be a fighter. I could choose to give in and stay in bed, and so could you. But I looked at my life and realized, I want to look back and say I fought for what I wanted, even when I was struggling harder than I've ever struggled, even when I'm insecure or scared or don't think i can do it - even if I fail, I want to know that I fought for it.

      I try to keep the mindset that the making of the art is it's own reward. It shouldn't matter what happens after you finish making art. What's important is that you do it as a means of self-expression, or just do it because you like to do it. But I definitely understand depression, having been battling with it most of my life. It can surely drain your motivation and fill you with apathy.

    • @candylisous6767
      @candylisous6767 4 года назад +2

      @@joeblankenship377 Yeah the hardest thing about lack of motivation or the lack of love for the things you normally do love is that Ive found that I havent really been expressing myself through the arts. Ive been making small progresses and trying to slowly find myself again so that I can be happy of the art that I do. What worried me was the fact of how slow it is when life seems to go by so fast. Next thing Ill know 3 and a half years will go by (its not even 4 anymore which is insane) and Ill be left without any more schooling and will have to find a job. I want the arts to be my career and I want to be good at it. I also want to be happy of what I accomplish in it. But I guess that if this is the pace for me, I will have to stick with it until I am ready to evolve.

    My only fear is to put myself out there. Knowing that there are already people with great art styles and can post daily. I dont really know what it's like for them, but for me I'm just trying to push past fear of rejection or doubt for what I've done and find a balance. But I hope y'all get what I mean by that. Whenever I look at other artists work, I don't really get inspiration, just negative emotions about me. I really want to believe I can be apart of the artists world and hopefully get a job doing it. Nothing is original anymore which I have been accepting. But damn, I can't stop thinking about these ideas in my head and want to create them. It's just so hard whenever it feels like you're inevitably not gonna get what you want. Recognition or a job. I'm 22 and I have been doing art for almost 8 years. I guess I still got a way to go. Art is a never ending journey, but I really want to get where I want and find a balance on this never ending road. Till I die.

    This video is so so so helpful. I just hate myself from how much better my friends are at drawing. I try to draw but then I just hate it. I hate it and I stop drawing for weeks on end. Then when I draw again, I feel guilty for not drawing. I've been wanting to get over my depression and especially me comparing myself to others that's a huge problem but you said things really well and honestly I think I'm gonna draw now. I'm also gonna tell my friend about how I feel. She draws every single day. She can do things so much easier than me. Why is her art so good. My art sucks. Nope nope I'm not gonna think that anymore. SHUT UP BRAIN. SHUT UP SHUT UP. SHUT UPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!! Its gonna be so hard but I need to try because feeling miserable isn't gonna get me anywhere. Remember ppl, no matter what point your at in your life, you are not failing. Be honest with yourself. Take a breath. The situation you're in won't last forever. You know that saying, things do get better? I think it's stupid. Because it's implying that things just change after you get out of a shit situation. No, those feelings will linger there. I say, things CAN get better as long as you start somewhere. Sure, maybe your room is a mess, maybe your parents just died, maybe your house is falling apart, or maybe all your friends just left you, but that does not mean you will never get better. You CAN get better. You just need to start somewhere. Maybe clean your floor, maybe find someone that you feel comfortable talking to, maybe take a hammer and start fixing your house, maybe find new friends. Your life can get better. Start somewhere. Start anywhere. Wake up and eat. If you can't eat, drink water. Your habits are just that. Habits. They can be conquered no matter how hard it ends up being

    Really the kind of video that speaks directly to the target audience in a way they can't even avoid lol, thanks for sharing this.
    For me I feel like my environment plays a big role. There are times when I manage to get back into the groove somewhat, get a sketchbook and actually make progress, then things change and I feel like when I'm not in an ideal mood I can't really get into it (as a hobbyist)
    One of the few things that sometimes works is really getting that intense inspiration (like a series/movie/book you love that you really wanna express in your art), but that's also a battle lol, either you don't draw and you have this persistent knot in your head that needs to be output before you can handle much more input, or you finally draw and feel some relief
    Breaking it down into little steps sounds good. Also having paper to draw on that you don't care about works for me more than I would expect, coz the fear of disrespecting your sketchbook is real lol

    I was told when I was avoiding art that ended up being 8 years to start with a 21 day plan to do anything in art. When I tried this in the past, first I read art books or just looked at art on RUclips channels. I started out with just 10 minutes a day just focus on doing something on art every day. Then after a week increase to 15 minutes a day. It's told that as you get through 21 days your mind starts to change and you set the wheels in motion. 60 days creates a habit. I did this and after 60 days I noticed I was spending 2 hours on a painting without even struggling . It became easy for me. After we moved into a new apartment things got tough and I stopped doing art. Well I'm setting up to do art again I've been putting things together and I'm excited. I created an art studio in part of my living room, bought art supplies, setting up a plan. Going to video tape doing an abstract painting. Things are going great.

    Haha, I spent hours yesterday dealing with first page anxiety. I finally sit down and did something with it, but it took a while. Sometimes that first page just gets to you and you feel like it has to be a masterpiece or something lol.

    A whole lot of things have been going on in my life that just ruined the fun of art for me. I've been so stressed and it feels like there's nothing but anxiety, it made it so hard to focus or even think of any ideas that seem worth trying. Even when I did try, I lose motivation or just feel a constant sense of dread.
    However, after watching this I feel a bit more heard on the issues I've been trying to solve with my art. It's my escape and comfort, it hurt me so badly to not even finish a "cookie-cutter" flower that I wondered if I should give it up all together. Thank you a lot of the advise, hopefully things would go for the better as I give these little steps a go.

    3:36 "you need to allow yourself to make art that you hate"
    that hit me like a truck. I always have this mindset of "whatever I start doing, it HAS become a masterpiece at the end, if it ain't like that then it's better to not do anything"

    I think I've mentioned in other vids of yours I just started drawing again after 28 years. I find myself so critical if something looks shitty, I've become petrified several times to get back to my table. I neglect to tell myself that I'm not 17 anymore, and my hands aren't as steady as they once were. My 15-year-old, who also loves painting and drawing, told me the other day "why does it matter if it isn't great? You barely let us see it, so it's not like the world will." I started again the next day lol

I’ve been avoiding art for almost a year now and it’s easy to say I’m out of the main supplies I need and can’t get them until quarantine is over, but also I forced my self to set up my art space in my new house a week ago. Soooo I have to do something

    I've found that drawing with scribbles helps me. Like drawing a character or thing from fluid, gestural scribbles to vaguely fit the shape. Drawing with 3D shapes sometimes feels stiff and rigid and I second guess what I make. I'd draw like 2 drawings in a day. But with scribbles I drew like 4-5 drawings in one day. I learned this from the book "How to draw comics the marvel way." Some artists who use it include Marc Silvestri, Joe Benitez and some others.

    An art sistah/coworker and I have been talking about this for the past month now. All of my inspiration came from being outdoors and hanging with friends. I enjoyed watching and will take your advice soon! 😊

    When I’m having a hard time pushing myself to draw again I find a random RUclips playlist of my genre of music and make art out of what I’m hearing. I shut all my notifications off and leave my phone to play whatever comes next.
    Music that I never heard before really took me out of my head and relieved the pressure to make something that I thought other people would like.
    It’s helped me to start drawing again and to find some new groovy tunes in adding to my playlist.😅

  • @karloshedos7280

    I’ve got a little bit different problem. When I finished my school I stopped drawing bcs of last 2 years in there with teacher who was pushing me into things I don’t like. Now it’s around 3 years I’ve lost the passion. I always ran for hyperrealism, portraits and stuff looking actually like photos. Now I’m looking on myself, that I would like to try again bcs it’s such a waste of talent…. So I went for it today again, and after first sketch before blending shadows I found out a big problem, that feels like my hands forgot how to do it. Imagine you’re doing something for years without thinking, like a meditation when you don’t remember x hours of the process but somehow it’s done and now you have even a problem to start shadowing and when you do, you screw up the paper so you can throw it in a trash. Made me really sad and no clue what now when I can’t learn it again from bottom when I know it’s somewhere inside and it’s killing me there bcs the passion for it is back but brain don’t know what to do. I’m actually lost.

    I was really scared of picking up art again and I just kept on downgrading the more I avoided it. I plan on taking it up again since I don't have school anymore, drawing is still scary and it's still annoying when I flip the canvas because the figure ends up all tilted and unproportional but aside from that drawing isn't as bad as I thought and it was fun creating weird figures straight from my head.
