I think the point is…. Regarding the argument between the Fantom and the MODX is you can get awesome sound from the MODX without even breaking a sweat. I love both but price wise MODX more bang for your buck. I own a MODX 8 and agree the key bed is nothing special BUT it’s very playable and sounds awesome. No Montage required on the 1st stage 🇬🇧
That's the first thing that jumped at me @DJ Jas. Without normalizing the volumes, the results will be skewed . One sound may 'sound' richer due to sheer volume...
I've watched a few of his videos. There's a slight bias to yamaha. Watching this channel, he'll make you think the modx pianoa sound better than a nord lol. He did another comparison video one time with a Korg Krome pianos. 1) it had synth action 2) didn't even have a sustain pedal for it.
The Modx has a MUCH heavier pad component and the release is quite longer...EQ wise, there is also more lower register in the ModX, almost to the point where it sounds like a different octave setting….to truly compare them , it would have been very easy on the Fantom to just raise up the fader on the pad zone, and at the same time tweak the overall zone EQ....This is why it is so difficult to do these comparisons....
I have MODX8...and it s AMAZING....full of capabilities....at HALF price! In the price of Fantom you can buy Modx8 AND Kurzweil PC4 another HUGE machine! I have also FA-06/08 ...but the sound of Modx is really handsome!

Features is what's we want today. You can only go so far with sampling up to a point as long as that keyboard have the sounds to cut through any track that's all you need anymore than that buy you a acoustic piano. Features is what many of us want, work flow features. These comparison is becoming stail and outdated next time compare the Roland flagship Fantom with the Yamaha montage and the Korg kronos or kurzweil not a $1800 lowend keyboard.

Why are all your videos comparing the new Fantom flagship workstation against Yamaha's lower end MODX models, which are less than half the price, instead of Yamaha's flagship synth the Montage? It makes more sense to compare it with the Montage!

So I ended up paying double to get the Montage8. (I don't know about the MODX6 or 7 so I can't comment). But I disagree that they should be compared only by sound engines and not price. You usually get what you pay for, and in this case it is true. Although I will say that the MODX synths are packed with awesome sounds beyond the Fantom so price is not quite as much a factor as it normally would be, you can not overlook the build and play quality of a synth as a factor.

The Yamaha has more body (and more volume, which is bad for comparison), but the sound of the Roland piano is much more close to the sound of a real piano. Even when the Yamaha sounds richer in body, it also sounds more artificial. And I'm saying this as someone who has played and recorded real pianos for 30 years. It all depends on what you are looking for and what you want it for. Also, there are many VSTs that sound way better, way more realistic than these two keyboards. The best sampled piano I've heard/played to this day, is the VSL Vienna Imperial, which costs around $400 USD.

I played the fantom yesterday. This is not a bad synth. Believe me.It has potential. But my montage is way better. Sounds much warmer. Easier to program. Better key bed! The Roland is a noisy key bed. The draw bars are too small. To me it sounds not so fat and warm.

ModX sounds super synthetic to me. But Roland also does not really have that depth that it should for a grand piano.

Modx outperforms it's class. Has almost identical guts as the Montage, for WAY less. I hope Roland comes out with a similar model type.

Fantom destroys Yamaha but in order to know that you have to have them both. You can emulate basically anything on the Fantom, not on the Montage tho.
