    Growing up in a MERC family racing F1 tunnel boats taught me everything I need to know about how important having the right prop for the right applications is. Great episode and informative.

    Great video! I've been waiting since you switched motors! Ecos huh! That is a great difference! I'm going to have to go back and compare the 200 to 225. I'm in a limbo on what to get this year. I need a repower. Thanks for taking the time to show us!

      @andreymartin I live not too far from Ft Myers, up in Venice. Driving to the Keys is a pain but there's that shuttle boat (catamaran) that takes you from Ft Myers and Naples down to the Keys for the day, or do what we do and grab the 1 way ticket, a place in the Keys for the night, and a 1way back the next day.
      You're allowed to bring reasonable gear, obviously not 10 rods and all that, but enough to have a good time

    Great breakdown. I still wonder what a couple of the bigger displacement 300’s working less would do. Even better might be the bigger displacement 250’s. I commercial fished when I was younger and I became a fan of bigger motors working easy. I always got better efficiency and better durability.

    • @KeyWestWaterman

      just a little out of sync I assume, these motors are still new and to be completely honest my throttle binnacle certainly needs to be replaced. not sure why I couldn't get them to the same Rpm to be honest. could be something as little as the throttle cable needs to be tightened.

      @@rickdiaz4559 because in a tournament, time is money. The faster you can get to your spot, the longer you can fish it. • @jlo2017
    @jlo2017 6 месяцев назад +1

    Forgive me, but I don't see the benefit of a range of .09 to .04 MPG better running the 225. Even with the 'right' prop on the 225 you pick up 0.14 MPG @ 4000 rpm. How many hours are your running per year now especially with cutting back on charters? Your fuel burn (from Mercury) is 19% higher but your MPG is only 6% higher. Were the 200's at end of life? I feel I'm missing something. I'm not being critical, I just think this is a fascinating exercise and loved the video, but want to understand what I'm missing.

    • @KeyWestWaterman
      @KeyWestWaterman  6 месяцев назад +2

      one thing I am good at is math. believe it or not lol. I definitely don't run as much as I used to doing charters, but my average year now that small .14 mpg increase will save me around $700-$900 a year in fuel. Over the life of the motors/props I would certainly cover the price difference from the 200 to the 225's. not to mention I can cruise around 3 to 4 mph faster. Not that I care to go fast, but if I can go fast more efficiently, why not. Equals more time in the water or fishing.
