This wasn't even an Android thing. This was a Samsung thing. It's just a swipe version of the ancient nav buttons. iOS doesn't have a dedicated way to go back within apps so standard Android swipe navigation is pretty much the opposite of iOS navigation.

Just updated to OneUI 6.1 on my Galaxy Fold 5 to see Samsung evidently decided to screw with the gesture controls on the navigation bar and make it more like my ipad which drove me up the wall... Just updated S23 to Software Update 15 on VZ. They removed the three button swipe gesture and I don't have the option to use the Goodlock workaround (it's not listed as an option in NavStar). So NOW I have a reason to switch to iPhone, finally... after never owning one. To just change something huge like this and remove the option to go back... it's like moving your car's steering wheel to the other side, WITHOUT WARNING. Just plain stupid.
I'm sorry my friend, I know, it's super frustrating. I hear the option is going to be baked into the main settings now, and that's why they recently removed it from NavStar. But they really screwed up the rollout of this, it should have been the end-users choice since day 1 if they were going to change things up like this. As frustrating as it is, I've actually grown to prefer the new nav gestures over the old style. I hated it at first, that's why I whipped up this video with the quickness when I first got it, but it's grown on me a lot. Now when I go back and forth between my s24u and the z fold 5 or tab s9, the gestures on the older devices seem more cumbersome. It took a few days though, it wasn't an overnight thing.

By they time they release another update (mine was this AM), I'll have long forgot about how it used to be. Makes me want to kick a little S Korean ass but then they might take my Genesis GV60 away and I ain't parting with that!!! ;-)

I wish I had an answer to that, but I just don't know. I will say though that this new nav stuff has grown on me a lot after using it for a few days. I hated it at first, but now when I go back to my fold 5 or tab s9, the old nav gestures feel a little clunky. It just takes a bit to get used to how long you have to hold and release when using the new gestures, but once it sinks in, it's pretty nice after that. Give it a little time my friend, I think it'll grown on you too.

Thank you I already had good lock and didn't even know i could change back. Went looking for others who had noticed and non of the big youtube guys even caught this! Glad to see I'm not alone. I was so pissed not that it took long to get used to just that navigation felt sluggish and less efficient. The 3 bars are differently faster and more fluid its like going from typing to swiping. Once you get used to it the one bar is a major downgrade.

There's a couple versions of NavStar that seem to be out now, the latest one removes the enable extra gesture setting. From what I'm reading online, it's supposed to be moving to the main navbar settings soon. You can try uninstalling and then reinstalling Good Lock. A couple of folks have mentioned they didn't have the option until they upgraded the Good Lock and NavStar apps, and a few have mentioned it being the other way around.

Here you go my friend, also mentioned this in the other comment for you - Not, not really, but you can customize it some to make it a little more like the old style. Swipe down 2 times on your Notifications Panel to show all of your quick toggles. You should see a pencil icon next to power off and settings cog wheel icons. Hit that pencil icon, and in there you can disable the persistent brightness slider, and also remove a lot of the toggles you don't need.
Thankyou! I hated the new gestures - took multiple attempts to get some of them right and constantly accidentally going back when swiping through photos or tyring to scroll through video. No idea why they changed it.
The latest version of navstar 6-1-05-40 has broken this by removing 'enable gesture settings.' I had to download the apk of the previous version to fix it.

Just update my s23 ultra from 5.1 to the new ui 6.1 and that option it's gone on my navigation bar settings and also is not available on good lock or nav star. I don't want to get the new s24 just because this issue 😢

Do u have a VPN? See if the app needs an update. What phone do u have? Clear cache. Uninstall re-download.

@@RADERTECH It does suck. The update that broke it was released on the 8th of March. I mentioned this on the Samsung forums, so hopefully, it will be resolved ASAP. Fingers crossed.

Just update my s23 ultra from 5.1 to the new ui 6.1 and that option it's gone on my navigation bar settings and also is not available on good lock or nav star. I don't want to get the new s24 just because this issue 😢
They're getting ready to move it to the main NavBar settings. In the meantime, you can also uninstall your current version of NavStar and install the previous version and it will be there. Thanks for stopping by!

Ha ha, I know, the new nav stuff is a little rough. You have to keep the app there else the setting will disappear. It might not at first, but it would after a reboot.

How could samsung think this was a good idea? The navigation bar has been the same for years. To change it so drastically without giving an easy option/choice to change it back is crazy.
