This was the first incarnation of Kiss, signing on in 1984. Kiss managed to force KAFM out of the Top 40 format in the Spring of 1986 when they became Album Rock KZPS but never managed to beat KEGL. Kiss really took a nosedive after KHYI signed on that September, along with a disastrous format adjustment toward Adult Contemporary. Both actions killed them in the ratings and although Kiss did go back to Top 40 several months later, the damage was done and they bowed out in September, 1987 becoming New Age/Smooth Jazz KOAI. Fast forward to November of 1992 after KHYI went Oldies as KODZ and KEGL went back to their Rock-based format after spending several years as a Mainstream Top 40 with low ratings, Kiss was reborn as a Top 40 outlet, where they are today.
I listened to that man religiously every morning in the mid 80s getting ready for school. Kiss 106 was still a brand new station back then.
A.K.A. Kiss 106 FM Right?!
