    I see why it threw a rod now...

  • @StreetLethalRacing
    @StreetLethalRacing Год назад +13

    These comments are hysterical. Guys, throwing a rod after a year of racing is actually pretty damn good. Race engines are not daily drivers, they need constant maintenance, and a full year of 8000-RPM blasts is testimony to how well the engine was built. Engines break, bearings wear, stuff happens, that’s racing. You pull, fix, and get back in it. No race engine lasts the life of your personal life lol, you guys never see the aftermath of RUclips racing, nobody ever shows you when their engines fail, so you assume they last forever at high RPM or high boost when I can assure you they don’t.

      You are kinda correct.
      I have a n/a 525ci bbc, with a 3.900 stroke and aluminum rods. Spins it to 9000rpm every run for the last 15 years, and the only thing I’ve done is change rods every 100 pass. But never blown it up

      Not necessarily with how advanced performance parts are now the only thing that makes an engine unreliable is boost and nitrous

      Love me an x-pipe, that’s what I built for my nova, sounds very similar except the whole 8k deal lol. Have a 6k pill in it now but have previously spun her to 68, until I realized my balancer was only rated for 6 so...lol. Hopefully you still have it and the BB is treating you right.

      High Range cams meant more for HP at the top and less torque is some of it as raw HP is really just engine speed and how much torque it produces. Chances are without gears the engine is otherwise a slug with no serious beans. Its the low rev spin the whole car around with a blip setups with all that torque that have the real power if you want a setup that will last and run like mad even with deep gears.

      I’m so late on this comment, but why didn’t anyone mention the stroke? Stroke is the distance the piston travels in the cylinder. V8s like the 283, 289, and 302s had a large bore and a short stroke. That’s the biggest factor in a high revving engine. The other must-haves are good balancing, high quality forged parts, and components that are matched and can flow enough air to reach those rpm’s (cam, intake, heads, and exhaust). The weight of the internals, flywheel, and the drag of belt driven accessories is a factor, but not nearly as much.

      The springs are usually the 1st to go on the valve train when you abuse your equipment like these idiots !!! When I raced we checked springs every 30 passes !!! We also relieved the pressure off the springs between weekends to save the equipment and reset the valve lash on a Friday evening along with keepers valve stems and rocker inspection !!! Good careful frequent maintenance inspections are essential if you want the motor to perform clean and consistent !!! The fools have absolutely NO clue of this !!! You crack the throttle to check response and a crisp sound between 4 to 5 grand !!! What these uneducated morons are doing is pure abuse of their equipment and showing me what little they really know !!! Like a 5 year old handling an AR-15 !!! I knew way too many guys like these but they always thought they knew it all in I would reply you NEVER know it all and never will !!!!!

      said in description it threw a rod a year later. thing with these old yank v8s is they can rev high if you build em for it or like the chevy 302 that revved quite high and happily from factory if i recall correctly. (no idea on the exact number but i know for a fact its factory rev range and how fast it got there was higher than the 350 for example) The issues with them is the reliability, takes someone who knows what they're doing to build a high rpm pushrod v8 whatever it is and the right parts to hold up. This video is proof they can rev like hell but dont last if you dont build it "right"
