These comments are hysterical. Guys, throwing a rod after a year of racing is actually pretty damn good. Race engines are not daily drivers, they need constant maintenance, and a full year of 8000-RPM blasts is testimony to how well the engine was built. Engines break, bearings wear, stuff happens, that’s racing. You pull, fix, and get back in it. No race engine lasts the life of your personal life lol, you guys never see the aftermath of RUclips racing, nobody ever shows you when their engines fail, so you assume they last forever at high RPM or high boost when I can assure you they don’t.
You are kinda correct. I have a n/a 525ci bbc, with a 3.900 stroke and aluminum rods. Spins it to 9000rpm every run for the last 15 years, and the only thing I’ve done is change rods every 100 pass. But never blown it up
Love me an x-pipe, that’s what I built for my nova, sounds very similar except the whole 8k deal lol. Have a 6k pill in it now but have previously spun her to 68, until I realized my balancer was only rated for 6 so...lol. Hopefully you still have it and the BB is treating you right.
High Range cams meant more for HP at the top and less torque is some of it as raw HP is really just engine speed and how much torque it produces. Chances are without gears the engine is otherwise a slug with no serious beans. Its the low rev spin the whole car around with a blip setups with all that torque that have the real power if you want a setup that will last and run like mad even with deep gears.
I’m so late on this comment, but why didn’t anyone mention the stroke? Stroke is the distance the piston travels in the cylinder. V8s like the 283, 289, and 302s had a large bore and a short stroke. That’s the biggest factor in a high revving engine. The other must-haves are good balancing, high quality forged parts, and components that are matched and can flow enough air to reach those rpm’s (cam, intake, heads, and exhaust). The weight of the internals, flywheel, and the drag of belt driven accessories is a factor, but not nearly as much.
I had a 1968 Camaro with a 327 double hump heads 202 valves screw in studs guide plates , 11.5 to 1 dome top pistons , it would pull hard to 7000rpms nobody would believe me till they rode in it and saw the sun tune tachometer , I was a kid and paid 3000$ for it myself my mom co signed loan in 1985 , 😂 2 reckless driving tickets back to back and bunch of speeding tickets my 17 year old butt was walking everywhere for a year , next car was Toyota Corolla 😂
The springs are usually the 1st to go on the valve train when you abuse your equipment like these idiots !!! When I raced we checked springs every 30 passes !!! We also relieved the pressure off the springs between weekends to save the equipment and reset the valve lash on a Friday evening along with keepers valve stems and rocker inspection !!! Good careful frequent maintenance inspections are essential if you want the motor to perform clean and consistent !!! The fools have absolutely NO clue of this !!! You crack the throttle to check response and a crisp sound between 4 to 5 grand !!! What these uneducated morons are doing is pure abuse of their equipment and showing me what little they really know !!! Like a 5 year old handling an AR-15 !!! I knew way too many guys like these but they always thought they knew it all in I would reply you NEVER know it all and never will !!!!!
Aaron Kiss Of course it had bottom end work. A stock 350 would blow itself a part at 6,500rpm, so forget about 8,000. Stock connecting rods, crank and bearings could never handle 8,000rpm
That is one of the best ways to clear out the exhaust pipes & mufflers, some say it not but it is, just hold that baby to the floor & cleaned she will be. Vroom Vroom
Bill blast you sound just like these know nothing half wit punks !! You speak like a complete fool with that super stupid statement !!! Your just showing your ignorance and foolishness sounding like some dopey 15 year old !!! Stop sounding like the know nothing's in high school !!! Who ever said "punch it " isnt a friend, reving engine proves nothing, its a freind who knows nothing and should go floor his own car....sick car .. jack wad with ni brauns or skills or skin in the game should go build an engine and have other schmucks telling him to rev or floor it.....
said in description it threw a rod a year later. thing with these old yank v8s is they can rev high if you build em for it or like the chevy 302 that revved quite high and happily from factory if i recall correctly. (no idea on the exact number but i know for a fact its factory rev range and how fast it got there was higher than the 350 for example) The issues with them is the reliability, takes someone who knows what they're doing to build a high rpm pushrod v8 whatever it is and the right parts to hold up. This video is proof they can rev like hell but dont last if you dont build it "right"
I see why it threw a rod now...

Not necessarily with how advanced performance parts are now the only thing that makes an engine unreliable is boost and nitrous
Good lord!! Nice build. I can only imagine a 11:5:1 283
back then it had a 3" x pipe into 3" flowmaster race muffs

Why is that guy down there inhaling exhaust
Did not see the Tach hit 8,000 rpm?
Threw a rod???...you don’t say!
Just curious as to how people get their motors to rev so fast unless it’s less weight on the flywheel and less internal weight
Removing all of the front accessories helps a lot.

@port nut exactly what most people dont do.

how do i get the high rpms out my small block ?bore it out alot?😂
LOTS of money. Solid roller cam, Hi rise intake, Big heads, heavy valve springs, titanium parts, lightweight rotating assembly, etc...
I have seen them make 7600 with aluminum rods but idk on this one!?!?!?
What kind of exhaust?
I want to put that motor in the white k10 across the street w a sm465 behind it and pull new douchey diesels at sheetz with it
The gotta own a sm465 to understand why
Johnny Wrench SM465 in my K20, worst transmission I’ve ever felt
A stock SBC 302 with pink rods would go 8500+
I call bullshit. Not with stock heads, cam, etc. Stock short block maybe, but not long block.
DeevoxL that's why I said stock short block maybe....... rods are part of the short block.
You've actually done this?
Josh Keasler Maybe this is stupidity but I’m wondering did Chevy make a 302? I’m not aware “sorry for my lack of knowledge

what did you use for the rev limiter. MSD?
The firewall apparently 😂😂
yea a 6al, with the rpm pills
What cam u running
I'd would think you would throw a pushrod first before a connecting rod.
Which rod did it pitch??

Guess it wasn't an 8000 rpm motor after all
Only a idiot would free rev there engine like that.
AMEN brother !!! He'll learn the hard way !!! Punks like this usually do !!!
sound like Spin Tech Pro Street?
Sounds like it loses power past about 7000 RPM. Definitely sounds good though
Damn flip flops’ WTF!
What heads did you use? Any bottom end work?
Aaron Kiss Of course it had bottom end work. A stock 350 would blow itself a part at 6,500rpm, so forget about 8,000. Stock connecting rods, crank and bearings could never handle 8,000rpm
NovaMan 350 This was a 327, not a 350
What mufflers you running
VROOM VROOM
Bullshit, if your spinning 8000 rpm it ain’t making no power at that rpm, with that camshaft guaranteed, probably got a dual plane intake! Lol

course it's automatic
how much u wanna bet he piches a rod in the big block
