  • Three-fourths of divorced men and two-thirds of divorced women will eventually remarry. That’s the present reality of the American relational landscape. Some of you have walked through the pain of such a breakup. The question for us is always a scriptural one: Are there biblical grounds for remarriage? Yes, of course. When a divorce occurs for one of the following reasons, a remarriage is appropriate.
This teaching is from our series Smart Home with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Church.

A woman only once married in her life,
if she is divorced she is.not allowed to remarry, she is forbiden to be one flesh with second man while first man lives (first man is father of her children, second man is her husband (adulterous remarriage)
If she is widow, she allows to remarry but its better for her remain unmarried

Most People are eager to know why a marriage failed. I never ask that question because having been there, you know some type of pain is involved. If someone chooses to divulge that info, thats ok. GOD knows ALL. Our Father can clean slates. Forgiveness came quickly out of my marriage that had so many winning ingredients, but sin entered, and God was put on the shelf. The FATHER was not the head of the household. If anything is God's will, HE will be in it. Thank you Pastor Skip for this teaching.

Is this teaching really the heart of God? I know of a man who listened to this kind of teaching and abandoned his family and ran off with another woman. This man said "God will forgive me, my pastor said God forgives all sin?" GOD FORGIVES ALL SIN THAT IS TRULY REPENTED OF! Does God cast us aside when we sin against him? 1st Corinthians 13 calls us to love as God loves and to forgive as God forgave us all our sins. Does the prodigal sons father reject him.because he has abandoned his family and run off into sin? Please read Romans 7:2-3 and 1st Corinthians 7:39 to understand that marriage is for Life!

The title of the video gives it away that this way of interpreting the scriptures is merely what this person wants it to say because he’s a humanist who tries to brush aside what the lord commands because many have turned from the lord and abandoned there commitment to there convenient spouse and need to feel the continued sin is ok and this man does that for them. Scripture clearly teaches: anyone who divorces and remarries while their covenant (original) spouse is still living (with the exception of fornication) is an adulterer or adulteress (Matthew 5:31-32, Matthew 19:3-9, Mark 10:2-12, Luke 16:18, Roman's 7:2-3, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, 1 Corinthians 7:10-15, 1 Corinthians 7:39).
In addition, scripture clearly teaches in order to receive God's mercy one must repent or they will perish (Luke 13:3). According to Proverbs 28:13, repentance has two elements confessing AND forsaking our sins: "People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess AND turn from them, they will receive mercy."
Remaining in an adulterous remarriage is not repentance.
The liar has to repent and stop lying; the thief has to repent and stop stealing; the homosexual has to repent and stop committing homosexual acts; and the remarried adulterer and adulteress has to repent and stop committing adultery.
Sharing the scriptural truth regarding divorce and remarriage infuriates those who are supposed to be followers of Christ. The words of Jesus Christ and the Apostle Paul anger his alleged followers like no other topic. Perhaps it's time to obey Jesus and to begin believing He means exactly what He says.
Most importantly, ALL sins are unforgivable without genuine repentance...including remaining in adulterous remarriage. According to the clear, easy-to-understand words of scripture, Jesus most definitely sends unrepentant adulterers and adulteresses to the lake of fire. It's time to confess and forsake adulterous remarriage.

At the 8:15 mark in your sermon, i just wanna say thats flat wrong. You are taking that verse out of context. It is not speaking to the "people who are loosed from their wives" as you say. If you take the whole context of 1 Corinthians 7:25-40, you will see that the whole topic is about the UNMARRIED. And that is who verse 28 is talking to, the unmarried, NOT, as you say, the people who are loosed from their wives.
Verse 27 is just a reminder to the Corinthians that if you are married, don't seek divorce, and if you have been divorced, don't seek remarriage. If you tie verse 28 to the latter half of verse 27 then, by your logic, you must tie it to the former half of verse 27 as well. In which case you would be saying that If a person marries someone while they are still married, then they have not commited a sin, which is flat wrong!
Verse 28 is speaking to those who are wrestling with marriage getting in the way of their concerns for the Lord. What Paul is saying in verse 28, is that you don't sin if you get married, but, to quote verse 34, " his interests are divided." In other words, if you get married, its not a sin, but you can no longer devote your life to God to the degree that you would be able to if you were not married. Having a wife/husband is a commitment that takes your whole life to pursue. Continue reading verse 32-34...."I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord's affairs - how he can please the Lord. But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world - how he can please his wife - and his interests are divided. " This is what verse 28 is speaking to.
Please Skip or whoever the moderator of this page is, speak to this and explain because I believe your teaching is flat wrong on this subject. I ask in a spirit of wanting to understand your view on this, not to argue. Thanks!

If I am already divorced and remarried, how do I repent? What should I do to make it right in God's sight? The options for repentance in this situation include leaving your current partner and reconciling with your original partner if possible. If reconciliation with your original partner is impossible, you should remain single. You have a difficult decision to make-you can either continue to live with your current partner for the rest of this life or choose to live with Jesus for all eternity, but you can't do both.

    In 1 Corinthians 7 : 8
Word ^UNMARRIED^ is those who never been married or pure Single (maybe their age is older) and widower man (not divorced women)
Paul said : it is good for them if they remain even as I am. But if they can not excercise self control, let them marry
    in 1 Corinthians 7 : 11
Word ^UNMARRIED" is LORD command to married woman : if she depart/divorced from her husband let her remain UNMARRIED (stay single without new husband, she is forbiden to remarry)
UNMARRIED (verse 8) is Marital Status, but UNMARRIED (verse 11) is command of LORD : to remain without remarry (only for wife who is depart/divorced)
Its very impossible contradictive, Paul command a wife is depart from husband to remarry and LORD command she remain not to remarry (unmarried)
the Pastor/ Preacher is very mistake in his teaching
    Adding
widowed man is the one whose wife died naturaly and divorced his wife for sex immorality of her (exception for sexual immorality in Matthew 5 : 32)

God instituted marriage, and it's remarkable that in the second chapter of Genesis, there's a statement that Jesus later quoted and that Paul references as fundamental. Genesis 1 says, "God made male and female." Genesis 2 states that it's "right for a man to leave his own family, to leave his parents and to cleave to his wife." The word "cleave" is powerful; it signifies being glued to his wife, sticking and staying attached to her for as long as they both shall live. This sets the standard for the relationship between male and female as intended by God: one man married to one woman for life.

In 1 Corinthians 7:1-7 the apostle Paul is seen warning those who, like him, have never married to refrain from comitting fornication (sex before marriage). Verses 8-9 are a summary of verses 1-7. In verse 8, the apostle Paul starts out by saying, "8I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I." When you see "I say therefore" being spoken, it is in summary to what was being spoken of previously. The apostle Paul clearly identifies this group, in verses 1-7, as never before married individuals like himself when he says "It is good for them if they abide even as I. 9But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn." Some make the claim that the apostle addresses those who had already married prior to verse 10, however, we do not see the apostle Paul do that until verse 10.
Verses 10-11 says, "10To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. 11But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife." As you can see there is no mention of those who were already married until verse 10. The apostle Paul was merely giving instruction (in verses 1-9) to those who had taken a virgin in betrothal on how to conduct themselves during the marriage, and reaffirms the nature of the one-flesh covenant of marriage, as well as to relay a command given by Christ for those who depart to remain unmarried or else be reconciled. As you can see, what was commanded by Christ, for those who are married, who abandon their covenant spouse, and those who are abandoned by their covenant spouse, is addressed in 1 Corinthians 7:10-11. Christ is issuing a clear command to an abandoned husband that he "must not divorce" his wife, and to the wife abandoning him to "remain unmarried or else be reconciled" to her husband, in 1 Corinthians 7:10-11. This makes what some believe is Paul overriding Christ's command, in 1 Corinthians 7:15, and giving an abandoned covenant spouse permission to divorce their covenant spouse and marry someone else, an impossibility. This puts Paul directly at odds with Christ, which makes it clear that 1 Corinthians 7:15 (which does not use the terms divorce or marry another) is not referring to divorce, only to separation (which is written in the original Greek texts), and could not possibly be an allowance for divorce, or remarriage, since that would violate the commands and teachings previously given in 1 Corinthians 7:10-11. Unbelievers, who are married to believers, are sanctified by the covenant of marriage (one-flesh), along with their children, is seen in 1 Corinthians 7:12-14. The apostle Paul does not address those who are married (one-flesh) anymore in this chapter beyond verse 16, only those who have never married, or have become widowed.
In verses 17-24, we see the apostle Paul speaking of the fulfillment of the law of Moses by saying, "18Was a man already circumcised when he was called? He should not become uncircumcised. Was a man still uncircumcised when called? He should not be circumcised. 19Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing."
The section of 1 Corinthians 7, beginning with verse 25, is widely understood as adressing men and women who are either betrothed (engaged), or widowed.
Verse 25-26, says, "25Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: yet I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful. 26I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be." Again we see the apostle Paul identifying this group as like unto himself (never before married), who have never married, by saying, "I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful."
1 Corinthians 7:27-28 is referring exclusively to men and women (virgins) who have never been married. This has been falsely taught for some time in churches as referring to anyone who is not currently in a marriage, which, for them, also includes those who are divorced. This is a very false assumption, and puts these verses in a different context, that is at odds with both the teachings of Christ and the apostle Paul. We see Paul refer to virgins, which signifies the unmarried who have never before been wed, which is the proper context here. We see Paul saying clearly that it is good for virgins, which is also speaking to never before wed men here, "that it is good for a man so to be." He goes on to say, "Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife." Who is he referring to here? Men who, like himself, have never married. The word "bound", in these verses, is a clear reference to betrothal (engagement) and not to a one-flesh covenant of marriage. The ancient Jews were considered bound as husband and wife during the betrothal (espousal/engagement) before becoming one-flesh in a covenant of marriage, through consummation. This is affirmed by the context of the term "bound" seen in Numbers 30:14-16."
In verses 29-31 we see the apostle Paul giving instruction to the church to live free from worldly concerns, by saying, "those who have wives should live as if they had none, those who weep, as if they did not; those who are joyful, as if they were not; those who make a purchase, as if they had nothing; and those who use the things of this world; as if not dependent on them. For this world in its present form is passing away."
In verses 32-34, we see the apostle Paul making a clear distinction between those who have never married (bachelors and virgin women), and those who have become one-flesh in a covenant of marriage. He affirms his earlier statements, in regard to how the married concern themselves more with the cares of the world than the cares of the Lord, by saying those who are unmarried are "concerned about the work of the Lord", and how he/she can please the Lord, but the married are "concerned about the affairs of this world", and how he or she can please their covenant wife or husband.
Verse 35 says, "35I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but in order to promote proper decorum and undivided devotion to the Lord."
Verses 36-38 says, "36However, if someone thinks he is acting inappropriately toward his betrothed, and if she is beyond her youth and they ought to marry, let him do as he wishes; he is not sinning; they should get married. 37But the man who is firmly established in his heart and under no constraint, with control over his will and resolve in his heart not to marry the virgin, he will do well.38So then, he who marries the virgin does well, but he who does not marry her does even better."
Verses 39-40 says, "39A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to marry anyone she wishes, as long as he belongs to the Lord.f 40In my judgment, however, she is happier if she remains as she is. And I think that I too have the Spirit of God.

Can I get a divorce if my spouse commits adultery? Never!
Can I get a divorce if my spouse is abusive to me? No!
Can I get a divorce if I no longer love my spouse? Absolutely not!
Can I get a divorce if my spouse has abandoned me? No, you can't!
So, under what circumstances can I get a divorce? Absolutely none. The Bible is absolutely clear: only death can dissolve a marriage in God's sight. Our only option is to separate from our spouse and stay single. If things get better between our spouse and us, we can get back together (1 Corinthians 7:10-11, Bible).
But what about the exception in Matthew 5:31-32 and Matthew 19:1-9? There is no exception in Matthew's gospel: Once you are married, you are married for life.
Once married, always married until death do us part, with no exceptions. This applies to all human beings, regardless of whether you are a sinner or a saint.

Matt 5:32 The exception clause is a exclusion clause excluding those wives that are divorced during the betrothal/engagement( Matt 1:18-25, Joseph & Mary for example) who commit FORNICATION. This is the fornication Jesus is talking about. Adultery is for those who are married. Whosoever marries her that is DIVORCED committeth (a continuous state) ADULTERY. Luke 16:18 WHOSOEVER divorces his wife and MARRY ANOTHER commitheth ADULTERY: and WHOSOEVER marries her that is DIVORCED from her husband committeth ADULTERY and Mark 10:11-12 have NO exception clauses either.
1Cor 7:27 is for the widows and virgins and 28 is for them too. The command for the married is art thou bound seek NOT to be loosed. Romans 7 clearly states for the woman which hath an husband is BOUND by the law to her husband so long as he liveth: but if the husband be dead she is LOOSED from the law of her husband. The only time the husband is loosed from his wife is death. He can't remarry otherwise. He is an adulterer if he does.

It is so refreshing to hear from a man who stays with the context of the word. 1 Cor. 7:15 does not mention remarriage, at all! The next verse, 16, still describes them as HUSBAND and WIFE, not ex husband and ex wife. Abandonment is not a biblical cause for divorce and remarriage. Skip has skipped right into the great leap to his predetermined outcome, remarriage for 4 causes, and if it doesn't cover your remarriage, then grace covers it. He is leading people into hell. whosoever marries her that is divorced commits ADULTERY. Adulterers do not inherit the kingdom of Heaven.

Truth Told So let me get this straight, an unrepentant adulterer and the innocent spouse are both doomed to hell, according to you. Option 1 the party not interested in adultery divorces the party, forgiving them the covenant, and by doing so becomes responsible for the adultery because “Irmagerd marriage is 4 Evah, you are still married there is no such thing as divorce, mwah.” Option 2 stay married to the unrepentant adulterer and enable the ongoing adultery, and thus is actually responsible for the adultery.
So then what is the option for those in this state, kill themselves?
Because if they are dead the unrepentant partner can remarry, right? So now not only do the innocent spouses need to forgive the adultery in an ongoing basis, they are forced to kill themselves so they don’t become metaphorically or literally for the adultery of their partner, and then forgive their spouse for forcing them to kill themselves? This is logically the only solution to the doctrine you propose. So does God forgive them the suicide since that was the only choice left to them, or are they still doomed to hell for having to kill themselves? I’m curious.

Lea Berhe Your confusion stems from a small detail you missed. God doesn't see a second or third marriage. In his eyes the first one is not dissolved. So the spouse that doesn't want to remain in his/her adulterous state only needs to leave (legally divorce if necessary), since that "marriage" didn't exist in God's eyes to begin with (that's why the second union is being addressed as "adultery" and not something else). So no need for anybody to commit suicide. Only sincere repentance and to avoid any further sinning.
And in case it wasn't obvious the "innocent party" is free to marry again (as long as it's not to another divorced person obviously).

What is still unclear: what if a believing spouse leaves the other? What if the believing spouse was sexually unfaithful? and refuses to admit it? What if the believing spouse was unfaithful, left the other believing spouse, and has been remarried twice? Is that first spouse free to remarry?

"No civil, legal, religious, cultural, or state divorce is valid in the eyes of God. This includes all human divorces that have taken place on planet Earth since Adam and Eve sinned. Not a single one of them severed the one-flesh union of a lawful marriage. They all took place without God’s permission. They were all unilateral decisions, as they are to this day, and will be to the end of time."

My recommendation is just don't do it. I've been widowed for 20 years and well past wanting to raise a family. My anti-Nike recommendation is simply experience. Though I came close about 10 years ago, at this point I'm at that stage where I would be watching someone die (of natural causes) or they would be watching me die. In WW2 veterans didn't want to get close to replacements because they didn't want to see someone die that reminded them of the buddies they may have lost in previous battles.
Of course if I met the right women who understood the challenges of marriage at this age I might change my mind.

This videos is misleading and remarriage is not permitted in the case of divorce. Marriage is a bound that only death can separate
    Romans 7:2-3
For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.
So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man
Please repent and turn to God that you may see the scriptures clearly.

Skip has it right, there is clear Biblical provision for remarriage after divorce in the event of adultery or abandonment, and I would suggest for the case of cruelty where one partner has abused the marriage covenant. You need to balance Matthew 19 and Romans 7 and consider the teaching in Deuteronomy 24 which allowed divorce but was being misused as Christ spoke strongly to. However of course forgiveness and reconciliation are usually the best course! This is very encouraging teaching compared to a lot of judgmental attitudes from people I suspect have trashed their own marriages or are consumed with bitterness.
